Lancaster (pop: 36,081) is located 30 miles southeast of Columbus and is the county seat of Fairfield County. The home of General Sherman, Lancaster is situated in the beginning of the Appalachian foothills with a downtown built around a Virginian town square. Stately homes surround the square along with the Georgian Museum, Decorative Arts Center of Ohio, and the Fairfield County Courthouse at the southern tip of it. Do not ask us how to pronounce Lancaster; some say LANK-a-ster; others say Lan-CAST-er. No one knows.
