• Montgomery (pop: 201,568) is the capital city of Alabama and the state's second largest city. The city was briefly the capital for the Confederate States of America in 1861, before it was relocated to Richmond, Virginia. Today, a grand white-washed capitol complex overlooks the revitalizing city from atop a small hill.
