Little Rock (pop: 183,333) is the capital and most populous city in the state of Arkansas. In fact, it is the only city in Arkansas with more than 100,000 residents. Creating a metropolitan region of 850,000, Little Rock lies near the geographic center of Arkansas with North Little Rock located just across the Arkansas River from the city. Little Rock’s downtown is beginning to look brighter with the new addition of the River Rail Electric Streetcar, installed in 2004. Central High School, the site of the first test of Brown v. Board of Education, is preserved as a National Historic Site in Little Rock.
