Gallipolis (pop: 4,180) is one of southeast Ohio's most important cities. Granted, it's population is relatively small, the history of Gallipolis far exceeds most small cities in the state. The county seat of Gallia County, this French-founded city (1790) is one that holds beautiful architecture, the historic French Square, and a rather large downtown. Attractions include the French Art Colony and the Ariel Theater. Gallipolis is also the neighboring city of Point Pleasant, WV, the home of the famed Silver Bridge collapsed in 1967 and killed 46 people.
