Dayton is the Birthplace of Aviation. The home of the Wright Brothers, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, and many many others, the city of 162,669 and metropolitan area shared by Springfield of nearly 1.1 million, Dayton is Ohio's fourth largest area (behind Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Columbus). The city's culture stems from African Americans, Hungarians, Polish, Germans, and even the Irish. The home of Funk music, Dayton has had a rich musical heritage along with an outstanding collection of architecture within its neighborhoods. The city built on three rivers is known for aviation mostly, seeing how Wright-Patterson AFB is up the street, the Wright Brothers landmarks are scattered throughout the city, and even the University of Dayton's nickname are the Flyers. With that, Dayton will continue to celebrate it's aviation, African-American, and architectural history for many more years to come. Enjoy the Gem City!
