Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
"County Goverment does not employ 1,000 people. It actually employs 8,000 people." Welcome to the forum. Although Cuyahoga County employs 8,000ish people - not all of those are positions that require space in a centralized downtown office.

"Buildings are usually shorter than their cranes, otherwise what would the point of a crane be?" What I'm saying is, sometimes (usually with *much* taller structures) the tower crane will be constructed to build the lower part of the building, then "jumped" up to complete the next section. I doubt that'll be the case here, but it's common with taller skyscraper construction. "This building is going to be almost as tall as the Federal Courthouse, isn't it?" I wish that was the case but I highly doubt it - having been in the courthouse tower during a construction tour, the ceilings in the courtrooms are substantially higher than typical office floors. With 18 office floors and 3 parking floors, the E&Y building will likely be in the 250'-300' range. Depending on how tall the antenna/spires are, they might add something but I wouldn't hold my breath. Whatever the case, seeing the crane from the inbound west Shoreway - from certain angles it will do a nice job of filling the gap in the skyline between North Point Tower and the northern East 9th cluster. As dar124 mentioned, because the building site is substantially lower than the rest of downtown, it's not going to have as much of an impact from say - views from the southeast. From today, from the Innerbelt with the cellphone camera (I promise this weekend I'll take shots with the DSLR). You can see the tower crane to the lower left of the Federal Courthouse Tower - like I said, that elevation plays a big part:

Saw the operator's cab being put into place this morning. Unless they're planning to jump the crane later on, it may be as tall as it's going to get.

When do you work?
"The short answer is it's not possible to have a life outside of work when you work that much. Your life is work." The funny thing is, I know quite a few people who are doing the same thing (working 60/70+ hours a week) hoping they'll eventually have a level of financial comfort - at least, I think that's the goal. Anyway, they're the same people who perpetually b!tch about "there's no one in this city to go out with". To which I respond "you work too much - when the h#ll would you have time to go on a date to even give someone a chance?".*I* am fine with the fact that they value their career more than their lovelife - I don't judge them for that, but I wish THEY would accept it, and the consequences.

^That's the base of the office tower, likely the start of the elevator core.

^You're right - the tower crane's shaft might be as tall as its going to get, but they still need to add the operator cab, jibs, counterweights, etc. Anyway, it's visible from the Interbelt bridge, the Shoreway near Edgewater, etc. Here are some ghastly cellphone camera shots from today: On the far left, poking above the chain link fence:

Not sure how long it's been there, but this crane was a nice surprise to see:- Cleveland: Demolition Watch
Columbia Building and the Ontario/Prospect corner building are both gone:- Cleveland: Demolition Watch

^Great job - something about the music during the Red Line inbound view of downtown *really* works.- Cleveland: Flats East Bank
^Yep, as I mentioned, the truck came up (south) on West 3rd, made a right onto Lakeside and then proceeded to West 9th. Also, there are currently no tower cranes onsite at the MM/CC.- Cleveland: Festivals, Music Concerts, & Events
Bump.- Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I believe so - what we're seeing "dead on" is the floating pad for the office tower - the hotel would be to the left where the white mobile crane is (or thereabouts).- Cleveland: Innerbelt News
From Canal Road - the first of the pylons to go up:- Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Note the mockup panel for the Medical Mart facade on the right:- Cleveland: Flats East Bank
As promised :-) Sorry I didn't get a shot from the eastern side of the site - the street was blocked by a utility company doing work.- Cleveland: Festivals, Music Concerts, & Events
I think I'll be able to make this as well. :-)- Cleveland: Flats East Bank
"^^Thanks MayDay! Looks like the crane that was at the Pinnacle. You getting down there anytime soon for a photo of it (I guess I'm cracking the wip)?" Ohhh, I don't know - I mean, what's that website I have that needs updating? You know, the one that ended up landing me a book deal and having one of my photos broadcasted to 50 million viewers in 170 different countries? Something about "skyscrapers"?!? ;-) Yes, I will be making frequent pilgrimages to get photos of the construction - it's not a huge building but it's been too damn long!- Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Alright, time for some photos. As I said - I was fuming because some knucklehead decided that the AM rush hour was a great time to route hundreds of racing cyclists (dear god, we can't ask a single one of them to stop at a redlight - they might not shave a few seconds off their time!!! ), and of course the morning monsoon didn't help matters. So as I'm sitting at the light at West 3rd and Lakeside, I saw it - and figured, if I'm going to be late - at least I saw the crane arrive :-) Since I had pole position, I got to follow it along Lakeside at about 1mph until I had to zip onto the Shoreway. Pardon the atrocious quality - cell phone camera and monsoon:- Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I'll post pics later; by happy accident I was running late to work. Ended up seeing the base of the tower crane on a truck coming off the Shoreway, south on West 3rd and west onto Lakeside :-) - Cleveland: Flats East Bank
