Beachwood: New Eaton Headquarters
freethink, I understand your point, and agree with your sentiments but like the cities we discuss, this forum doesn't exist in a bubble. It's not just about the developments/projects that appeal to us.

Cleveland: Steelyard Commons
Definitely not an IKEA folks... and speculating what store it might be is fine, but once the discussion goes to things like perceived quality of said store... time to get back on topic, thankyouverymuch! :-)

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
Once again, certain people have decided that they'd rather make ignorant/inflammatory/insulting comments than have a civil discussion. This thread isn't about why downtown Cleveland isn't up to someone's standards because there aren't busy chain restaurants, nor is it about referring to other cities (especially other cities in Ohio) as "hellholes", or insulting other forumers. Until official announcements are made about the construction, this thread remains locked - for those of you who were having a civil and mature discussion, I hope you understand this decision.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
"I assume it's the ramp that will be part of the mall used for a lake observation landing. I could be wrong though." Not wrong at all :-) I clipped a zoomed-in section of that photo - I think it's the structure for the observation landing/ramp that will face Lakeside:

CLEVELAND - Making an observation
^Huntington Bank is vacating their current digs at East 9th and Euclid and moving into 200 Public Square. Apparently they're taking up enough room to get naming/signage rights.

Thanks for the reminder, I meant to post this:

CLEVELAND - Making an observation
Thanks everyone! edale: 1. That is the Convention Center and Medical Mart. 2. That's the Flats *West* Bank. Yes, those are projects - Lakeview Terrace, which were built in the 1930s when the river and lakefronts weren't a pleasant place due to heavy industry and pollution. If I had my way, they'd be leveled.

You can see the "ramp" being constructed in this shot:

CLEVELAND - Making an observation
Well, more like a trip to the Terminal Tower observation deck - it dawned on me that I haven't been up there with my DSLR and it was the first sunny day in a long time. Unfortunately I had to go earlier in the day, so there was still a little morning fog/haze lingering. Ah well, can't win them all. Back down to earth - hope you enjoyed!

Jim's Steakhouse (aka Club Mega aka Aqua Nightclub) is being demolished:

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
^Well, as they're coming into being, I don't think Euclid Commons will be winning any beauty prizes but as has been said - putting a few hundred youngish vibrantish types downtown is never a bad thing, imho:
-
Cleveland: Flats East Bank
While the site is definitely still in "moving dirt around" mode (to the casual viewer) and oh yeah, muddy as all heck - I decided to snap a few photos from the Main Avenue side of the site. Glad I did. Okay, so it's a *really* muddy pit - what caught my eye? If my knowledge of high-rise construction serves me correctly, those dark stacks on the left are piles of structural steel :-)

At this point, they might as well paint the whole thing gold - so tacky and so utterly wrong.

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
Alright folks, this thread is being unlocked - again. Remember, membership and participation on this forum is a privilege, not a right - post accordingly.

Spring in the GLASS CITY!!! (Toledo)
Great photos - I want to make a trip to Toledo sometime, just for the art museum alone.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
"If you go to grant park/millennium park in Chicago you'll see attractions like the bean, and those two walls where water spits out into a shallow wading area for kids. (sorry for being vague for those who don't know what I'm talking about)" Just putting it out there, and I'm *not* suggesting that Millennium Park isn't a great public space - it really is, but it was developed pre-recession, and even so, the construction took approximately six years to complete and the initial pricetag was $150 million - the final cost was somewhere around $475 million, much of that being funded by taxpayers.

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
Since this thread is specifically for discussion of the construction of the casino - with the recent stop-work announcement, it will stay locked until there's something to report.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
Alright kids, settle down.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
There's also security to consider - granted there are other ways to see in but theft from construction sites is a major problem for contractors. By screening in the site, it makes it more difficult to "case the joint" from street level.
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
That's actually pretty common with most construction sites. If they meant to block the view in, they'd cover the entire site in a giant tarp

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Not much to see, other than most of the towers on the East 9th Street corridor:

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Another week, another shot of dirt being moved around (although I have to say the "smooth" strip looks to be the footprint of the aLoft hotel):

Why are artists so overlooked in revitalization efforts?
Could Cleveland be doing more? I suppose so, but I'd say Cleveland learned a long time ago (well, the 80s when the Warehouse District was an "artists' neighborhood"): http://www.cpacbiz.org/business/CreativeCompass.shtml

Cleveland: Steelyard Commons
Nothing too exciting, but the KeyBank branch is under construction.

Cleveland: Smoking Ban in parks and public places
heatohio, take it down a notch - personal insults aren't tolerated here.
