AKRON - A to Zombie?!?
Made a little trip to Akron - fortunately the weather was more cooperative. Still, there was something ... odd - even strange ... Lovely day, lovely compound-estate of my dreams: The lovely Highland Square neighborhood: The lovely Almaza - Lebanese pilsner: A lovely bulldog enjoying the warm weather: Wait? WTF?!?!? AHHH!!!! EEK!!!! Oh no! They got the kids!!! Hey, even zombies are entitled to a smoke break! Oh good lord - I just filled up on tasty kibbee and hummus *and* I got a big noggin - so if these zombies are looking for a bloated victim with *braiiins*, I'm toast!!! We managed to evade the undead hordes unscathed and made our way toward downtown Akron: Tacky small-scale signage in the foreground, tacky large-scale signage in the background: Scenery of a different kind (you're welcome, guys). I'm guessing this person's pantry has LOTS of Reynolds Wrap: Anyway, back to some lovely scenery: Looks like the zombies wiped out everyone downtown - just kidding, put down the guns. At 3:30pm in most CBDs in cities like Akron, there's not much going on and I will say that I'm impressed by the residential additions they've made in recent years. And since it's Easter weekend, might as well end this with church: Hope you enjoyed :-)

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
^^As jborger said, that area is the Phase II site; and even though there were buildings there once before, it's probable that it would need the same timetable for site prep. The buildings that were there weren't modern mid-rise residential (like we've seen in renderings) and the previous infrastructure wouldn't be sufficient for their needs. That's on top of the poor soil conditions under most of downtown Cleveland.

Cleveland: University Hospitals Expansion (University Circle)
I've heard some say that there's substantial glare on the western facade; I was there around 2:30pm so it wasn't an issue for me. That said... unless we're hearing stories of spontaneous combustion or daily pile-ups on Euclid, let's just leave it at that. :-)

CLEVELAND/AKRON - Don't get me wrong
Don't get me wrong, it's just about d@mn time I post some photos! It'd be nice one day to have this lovely view of One Cleveland Center blocked by a respectable high-rise. Not sure why, but whenever I go to Akron the weather takes a turn for the overcast: Ah well... the lobby of the Akron Art Museum: Claes Oldenburg's "Inverted Q" in the foreground, a Sol Lewitt mural in the background: The talented gal who sings the song in the above video has a home and restaurant here: Okay, so overcast skies aren't limited to Akron: But occasionally the sun comes out: The mammoth Masonic auditorium - see the lighter masonry on the right? That would have been the entrance to this: The James A. Garfield memorial in the background, Little Italy's Holy Rosary church in the foreground: Over to Star Trek's headquarters the entrance for the Seidman cancer hospital at University Hospitals: I don't know that I'm completely enamored of the building's design but the views *from* it are quite nice: I loved the frankness of the quotes on many of these photos and appreciate that UH didn't censor the captions. Not much to see in this shot construction-wise, but it was cool to be able to see City Hall from this vantage point:- Cleveland: Flats East Bank

^Yep. Technically it's just the Huntington "H" logos that are going up on the "north" and "south" facades (aka the skinny parts). The full "Huntington" will be going on the wider east/west facades.- Career Networking / Job Posting Thread
While I totally understand the desire for a change of scenery, my suggestion is to get a better idea of what you *really* want to do, and find ways to distinguish yourself from those who are looking for the same kind of positions. It doesn't have to be "_____ is the job I want so much I'm willing to do it until I retire", but "I really enjoy _____ and I've tried to hone my talents accordingly."- Galleria/ Tower City Restaurant destination?

This thread is being locked to give people time to chill out, and will be unlocked when construction news comes out. First and foremost, if a post is moved to a more pertinent thread or section, that's no reason to be offended or get huffy. As I've explained to many people since this forum's inception (almost seven years and 4,000 members ago) - unless you're explicitly told "quit being a jack@ss", you haven't done something wrong per se, it's just that it behooves us all to keep threads focused on the topic at hand. Sure there will be gray areas, and times where there's overlap but as all the Admins will attest - if threads are left open to complete free-for-all discussion, this forum (and any like it) lose their value as a resource. For example, it's fine to discuss things like "if the casino is built in a way to attract transit users, how would that play out?", or "how would they be able to tie in transit - what would need to be built/changed?"... but instead we ended up with a bunch of posts that were baseless speculation on how many people might use transit, or are typical casino goers transit friendly which then became a discussion about ex-urbs vs. this that and the other. Then we had posts about Kasich's revisiting the licensing fees, etc. - actually, they weren't posts discussing Kasich's acts and how they might affect the casino construction, they were full-on anti-Kasich/Republican rants that focused on perceived hypocrisy, etc. - but not how those events might affect the construction. There *are* ways to have "gray area" discussions but you have to somehow tie your thoughts into the original topic of the thread. Does that make sense? Also, I recommend to anyone who is new, or is participating for the first time to take some time and truly get a feel for how the forum is run, how threads are organized, etc. Check some of the earlier posts in a thread to see if what you're about to post has already been discussed, etc. If you're unsure, feel free to say "Mods, not sure if this belongs here but..." - again, a post/thread being relocated isn't a reprimand, it's just keeping the forum as organized as possible with almost 5,000 members. Finally, as others have said - the Admins and Mods are not paid to maintain the forum. They take time away from their families, loved ones and livelihoods to do their job here. This forum has been in existence since 2004, and membership has grown to almost 5,000 - which includes everyone from casual observers to people who have direct first-hand involvement/knowledge of the developments/events that we all love to follow - and it's the Admins and Mods jobs to maintain the forum's appeal to all of those. While we understand it can be frustrating to get acclimated and it might seem that the Admins and Mods have a heavyhanded approach, it's that very approach that's made UrbanOhio the resource that it is. And participation on the forum is a privilege, not a right. The onus is not on the Admins and Mods to hold every newcomer's hand through the forum's protocol and structure. We want to be as welcoming as possible, but it's only fair that forumers do their part.- Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
