Can we get them for the West Side Market on Saturdays, especially in the produce arcades?
  2. I'll say this much - if they're hoping to avoid any notion of backroom dealing shadiness, they're not doing a good job.
  3. "Rent before buying.I think anyone should, esp in Cleveland ..." Agreed.

While I don't have the same utter disdain for Mayor Jackson that some do, and I get that he's not one for grandstanding - when I hear that a substantial amount of my/taxpayer dollars are being plunked down in a UNBID contract for a company that hasn't exactly been vetted 110% - I believe Mayor Jackson has some "splaining" to do. It'd be one thing if the Chinese company was known globally for an impeccable reputation and ultra high quality product; but they aren't - so yeah, "it is what it is" is NOT going to fly with this constituent and I imagine a lot more.
  5. Folks, we have a retail thread already - if certain people can't stay on topic in this thread, suspensions will be handed out.
  6. Another great collection of a not-often photographed area! :-)
  7. From wkyc.com: CLEVELAND -- Cleveland finally plans to combine the city's Fire and EMS into one organization. The goal is to provide better services during emergencies. The mayor's plan calls for the integration of E.M.S. and Fire departments. It's not a merger and it's not a consolidation. "We're taking the skills and the strengths in each of those divisions maximizing that which they do well into one cohesive operation," Safety Director Martin Flask said. " movies I want to remake are: ... All about Eve..." Mark my words, I know people who can make things seem like "accidents" - if I so much as see anyone, even Meryl 'Miranda Priestley' Streep herself in a preview uttering "fasten your seatbelts..." I *know* who was responsible. :x That said - MTS and EC, please use the Private Messaging system when you realize your conflict is taking a thread off-topic.
  9. "For better or worse (most likely worse!), there seems to be no filming Cleveland, only LA." Actual scene filming I don't believe so, but there will be some footage shot here.

Only if I'm allowed to stab someone! ;-)
  11. Well, one of the producers is originally from the Akron area - he moved to L.A. in the 70s but has made a few trips back and had a lot of praise for Cleveland, especially for downtown. Then again, he's a producer and not the writer so there's only so much control he can exert. They may be using one of my photos of the Cleveland skyline, so hopefully it does our fair city some justice :-)

Okay, forgive the "shop talk" - people with a "graphics background" who think RGB has anything to do with printed materials.
  13. Love it; my old stomping grounds and First National Tower - the first highrise I can remember seeing (at the age of 6). Great to see how far downtown Youngstown has come along in such short time.
  14. Okay folks - this thread is for discussion of the actual construction/development of the Cleveland casino, not "here's how I feel about casino gambling". Thanks!
  15. Actually, take the "the economy has/hasn't rightsized itself" to the appropriate thread.

    Congrats!!!
  17. Those were years when Cleveland didn't have* a nationally recognized culinary scene like it does today and when places like Tremont weren't even on the map. And look at where those recognized places are - clustered together in walkable neighborhoods/strips where people can bar-hop and they're away from the harsh winds along the Lake shore. That's no accident; as TMH said - there's little to no buffer from the harsh winds that whip across the Lake - so a place with so-so food offerings, isolated from other spots, is it any wonder Hornblowers didn't last? Add to that a region with a stagnant population and as much as we would wish otherwise, there can only be so many successful hotspots. I think a year or so ago, they measured 70mph winds that did substantial damage to the highrises along Lakeside - and this was in the SPRING; imagine how hospitable that is to pedestrians during the middle of winter. *It's the same discussion of "well back in the day, Cleveland had a bunch of stores downtown" - yeah, that was before widespread urban sprawl, downtown reinvestment, etc. It's not an apples-to-apples comparison.
  18. There's a short clip of 'Hot in Cleveland' on tvland.com's site - some good laughs (imho) especially with Betty White: http://blogs.tvland.com/prime/betty-white-is-hot-in-cleveland-on-tvl/?xrs=SEM_HIC_0064&gclid=CLvlvPiiqKECFQuB5QodRmAwFg
  19. Oh. My. God. They. Turned. Susans. Into. A. Burger. Joint. - sorry, I need a moment of silence on that one. Great photos - what especially impressed me was how you made Tri-Towers look appealing - that's no small feat!
  20. I can't make it but thought I'd post the info I received via email - there's an Edgewater cleanup scheduled for this Saturday, May 1st from 11am to 1pm - meet at the small parking lot on the upper (westernmost) area. Bring gloves and trash bags if possible. Contact Robert [email protected] or 330-393-4448 to RSVP.
  21. Alright, this thread is locked for a while.
  22. LOVE so many shots, especially the last one. And it's saying something when I'm stumped on most of the thread - great job!
  23. Okay, Drew owns a home, well - so do plenty of others with much less means. Not saying he shouldn't have any voice at all, and some of the points he made were valid, but a few of them were a little "no sh!t, Sherlock". I've heard someone suggest it before - I definitely think he, Halle Berry and a few others (actors from Cleveland) could band together and form some sort of performing arts academy collaborative/initiative with Playhouse Square, focusing on kids in the city. You get a charitable act, an impact on Cleveland youth and hopefully breaking the poverty cycle in a few lives, and you build on our existing strengths.

"But why do I feel so guilty?" Because you worry too much about what other people will say or think, instead of worrying about your own happiness*. *Sure, there's an age difference and that's nothing to dismiss but I've known plenty who have made it work, and others who have enjoyed it for what it was, knowing it wasn't meant to be lifelong. You're both over 21 and independent, right?
