UrbanOhio Parents & Families
As an Admin, I'm obligated to check in on as many threads as I can, to ensure everything is on-topic, etc. This includes threads where I have no vested interest. I have to admit I'm a bit queasy from some of the posts in this thread (the diaper/training talk alone has galvanized my stance that I'll never be a parent - blech!!!), but it's clear that there was a real need on UrbanOhio for this kind of resource. I'm not completely sure what exactly constitutes GERB, babywearing or a lot of the stuff you guys discuss but I'm glad we have a place where city-minded parents can exchange ideas/info. Kudos to rockandroller for suggesting the idea :-)

Moving to Cleveland this June..help please!
 I knocked the thread off track? Thanks for the laugh. You guys are ridiculous. Dog forbid anyone give a balanced view of the area instead of pretending everything is perfect in the Heights. Clevelander17, enjoy your time off - it isn't because you're providing a balanced view, it's because you're being a jerk about it. Plenty of other forumers are able to say "I wouldn't live in _____ area because in my opinion, _______ is undesirable". Instead, as StrapHanger rightly pointed out - you throw out a straw man argument that some are saying "Cleveland Heights is perfect", and having looked at all the posts - no one ever suggested that. If you were providing facts like "SuchAndSuch Street reported X-number of crimes according to ____", that would be one thing, but you're not. You're throwing out personal anecdotes and biases, and then of course this notion that anyone who expresses disagreement is naive or seeing through rose-colored glasses. You're purposely baiting people with thinly veiled racist comments and then trying to backpedal from them as being "balanced"? Pffft. And when the thread finally starts to get back on track, you sass the very people who run this joint. You could have said "meh, I don't agree but whatever" but apparently you just had to get your dig in at the people who keep this forum going. Contrarian viewpoints are welcome; being a jackass while presenting them isn't - plenty of people have figured that out, so can you. I suggest you do just that. dreamz912, welcome to the forum and to Cleveland. Don't let any of the arguments in this thread dissuade you - as I said to Clevelander17, I don't think you'd find anyone who is a "Pollyanna" and say everything is just perfect in Cleveland Heights, or well - anywhere, no matter where you'd choose to live.

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
Aw yeah!!! http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2010/04/mrn_ltd_secures_financing_for_fir.html Developer MRN Ltd. secures financing for first phase of Uptown neighborhood project at University Circle By Michelle Jarboe, The Plain Dealer April 08, 2010, 4:03AM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A long-discussed project at the heart of University Circle could break ground this summer, creating a residential backbone for the emerging Uptown neighborhood. Cleveland developer MRN Ltd. has secured financing commitments to build $44 million worth of apartments, stores and restaurants along Euclid Avenue, northeast of Mayfield Road and Ford Drive. After years of planning, University Circle is poised to make a huge stride in attracting residents to a district known for its educational, medical and cultural behemoths.

Good place for young couple?
Okay - reopening this thread by request from several forumers. As always, keep things on topic and avoid the tit-for-tat arguments please :-)

Good place for young couple?
In all fairness, I think rockandroller tried to bring things back on topic but yeah, when we have someone trying to get information about relocating here, it's not the best place to have the back-and-forths or the tangental discussions. Lanthiriel, welcome to UrbanOhio. One thing you have to admit about the forum - our members are passionate and aren't afraid to express themselves :-)

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Does anyone have a subscription to Crains? I saw this posted earlier in the day and was able to snag the rendering and intro but the next time I clicked on the article, it was removed. https://home.crainscleveland.com/celebreezefederalbldgfacade041010ab35124 By Stan Bollard One of the most high-profile Cleveland area projects of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act should be well underway by next year, but it will also transform the downtown Cleveland skyline. The Recovery Act funded roof and facade replacement is scheduled to begin in spring 2011 but could start as early as this summer. "Green" energy-saving elements of the project include increased water/energy conservation from the roof/facade improvements and modernization of various mechanical systems, including installation of a support pole for a wind turbine to be installed at a later date. The work is expected to be completed in 2015. GSA completed a prospectus level renovation on the building in fall 2009 that included plaza renovation, installation of a new fire management system, and replacement of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system. What most passersby will notice is the installation of a new glass facade containing photovoltaic LED lighting; this will enable GSA engineers to monitor HVAC system output as well as detect energy loss. The LED cells will register energy loss or transfer by a change in color; the cells will also be tested in certain windows and if successful, will be used for those not included in the original test.

Pet Peeves!
Media outlets that don't have their advertising specs (print, online or otherwise) readily available on their website. Let me put it this way - the rinkydink newspaper from my hometown (with a circulation of 5,700) HAS it. :x No, I don't want you to kill a tree and waste postage and mail something to me, and NO, I don't have time to dial your number and chat for a few minutes so we can talk about "ad strategies" - I just to place an ad, and I just need to know the deadline and the size, and I need to know it NOW. :-)

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
Nailed it. One of the great things about this forum is that there are a LOT of people who have access to information before it's released to the public. Of course, that comes with a sense of responsibility as McCleveland alluded to - if he openly shared info that wasn't intended to go beyond his ears, he'd never be granted access again. I think most people in that sort of position WANT to share all the good news, but for legal reasons, they can't. As I've said before, although they don't post, I am continually surprised by the people who 'lurk' on the forum - and if they saw info being shared prematurely by someone they trusted, we'd never even hear the fuzzy details.

And that is why the Admins and Owners will happily state that the opinions expressed by individual forumers do not necessarily represent the views of the forum management and ownership. When someone expresses a sentiment such as "I would not put it past the corporate thugs at the Cleveland Clinic to contract an arson.", they should realize that potentially libelous comments can have legal ramifications, and the Admins and Owners of this forum have no choice but to fully cooperate with any resulting litigation.- Cleveland Saint Patrick's Day 2010
