  1. Thanks everyone, I'm glad you've enjoyed them :-) That's the Korean Catholic church in Tremont. More specifically on West 14th Street, north of Kenilworth.

  3. Oh it's just a news site, you're not expecting accuracy are you? ;-)
  4. "Currently the biggest tennant in the building has to lease several floors across the street in North Point Tower to accommodate its staff." I wasn't aware of that; I thought it just needed retrofitting for energy savings, but interesting to know!
  5. Related to the potential recladding of the Federal Building, from wkyc.com: http://www.wkyc.com/news/local/news_article.aspx?storyid=131162&catid=3 "The federal government wants to install a new energy saving exterior on the Anthony J. Celebrezze Federal Building in downtown Cleveland. Pricetag: $121 million. But LaTourette said discussions are underway to replace the building with a new skyscraper that meets security requirements, and doesn't cost a whole lot more. "The price tag for that was $140 million and was the highest I've seen so far," said LaTourette."
  6. Looks like someone checked out the former Coast Guard station!
  7. I don't see anything on their website mentioning it, so who knows - the guy running it seems really nice. What I do know is I went a few weeks ago to pick up some cards. Both Room Service and duoHome (neighboring stores) had hours posted - along with "winter" hours so even though they weren't open, I knew when I could come back. Kitsch City? Nothing - no hours posted at all. Retail 101 - if your customers don't know when you're open, you can't blame them for going elsewhere.
  8. Just kidding - glad to see it progressing :-)

^Was a niece or nephew born, or did you "marry" into the situation?
  10. Thanks for clarifying - when you say "before long"...? :-)

As a designer applying for a design-related position - THAT would actually make sense!

  13. Horrifically expensive cost of living - especially when compared with Ohio. Incredibly isolated compared with Ohio - if you like LONNNG flights, it's a great fit. Substantially less opportunities jobwise in most fields... I could go on :-)
  14. ^I'll take a few parking garages over a few dozen parking lots any day, especially if they have 1st floor retail. :-)

Yeah, I thought that went out with foosball tables in the lunchroom.

Any company that asks things like "please write an original poem about your last position" on their job application site.

It was the beads; otherwise he'd have said "yo yo diggity dudez" or whatever the kids are saying now.
  18. You miss my point - I wasn't saying I have a goal to move there, I was saying that I've been there and can at least *get* why people would want to move there. Just like I've been to Phoenix and while I have no desire to live there, I can say that I've seen enough to know why some people find it appealing. Don't get me wrong - Honolulu - big city next to gorgeous beaches just a short drive from jaw dropping scenery (and that's just Oahu) is as good as it gets in my book, until you factor in career potential, cost of living, etc.

This is really a great thread - I think a trip on the Goodtime III during ideal weather could de-jade the most bitter Clevelander, and I just love watching the huge ore freighters navigate the Cuyahoga - you haven't lived until you've seen that, imho. Jim S., I'll ask around and see what I can find for you.
  20. "Can anyone tell me what Cleveland-based companies (pre- and post-merger) owned this rail line and where the rail line went?" Something tells me that Rockefeller/Standard Oil was involved - beyond that, I'm clueless.

  22. I'd been taking photos here and there as weather permitted, but recently we had some obscenely gorgeous (but chilly) days so I managed to get enough together for another set. 23. Great job - nice to see how QCS is going to shape up once she's done.
  24. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe; though I think it's more Le Corbusier - google them both and you'll see what I mean. ;-)
  25. I think a Lakewood to Case commute in 20 minutes is pushing it (not remotely doable from Rocky River); especially in bad weather. Definitely sounds like the type of area they'd like but with the commute requirement, I'd suggest some of the areas in Cleveland Heights that compare with Lakewood. Agreed on renting unless they're planning to sit tight for a while, especially with the economy the way it is.
