Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
I don't recall that ever being limited to 8 weeks: "...lanes will be closed through mid-2010 so the Sewer District can replace a 90-year-old concrete culvert. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2009/01/west_shoreway_lanes_closed_for.html

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
I could be wrong, but I think the soon-to-be Rosetta Center and Holiday Inn Express are two separate (albeit abutting each other) buildings. Other than the lobby, I'm not sure how or if they're connected internally. Whatever the case, I believe the Rosetta's rooftop has enough space to accomodate a penthouse on its own:

Possible relocation to Cleveland
Most of the time, bugs aren't an issue - however in the summer, you'll meet the muffleheads (also called midges) - they look like mosquitos but have two fuzzy antennae, and they do not bite. Occasionally there will be a LOT of them and you won't want to ride a bike with your mouth open, but read the following article to learn more about them. They're a nuisance, but also a good sign that the Lake is healthy http://www.sanduskyregister.com/articles/2007/05/29/front/294219.txt Mayflies are a different insect, but again - harmless http://www.mayflynews.net/ I'll say this much about Clevelanders - they're not overly outgoingly friendly (a la "southern hospitality") but there's a down-to-earth approachability - if that makes sense. What will help you a lot is to get involved with an active group or two, such as a young professionals group or volunteering.

Welcome to the forum, we look forward to your contributions! I see what you mean about the four buildings on Chester - all but the easternmost (on the left) resemble the East 93rd garage with the corner "bumpouts". It would be nice if they could build those a little closer to the street, if they're going to be offices.

Urban Ohio "Picture Of The Day"
^The reason for the delay - from wikipedia about the Westin Peachtree: This is because the ¼-inch (6mm) uninsulated glass is no longer made by PPG Industries, and even identical new windows would look mismatched because of weathering due to three decades of hot sunshine. Additionally, new building codes require insulated glass that can withstand winds up to 90 miles per hour (145 km/h) instead of 75 miles per hour (120 km/h), necessitating heavier and more expensive glass. Replacement of all 6350 windows was expected to begin in June or July 2009 and continue from the top down until summer 2010 at a cost over 20 million dollars, which will be covered by insurance.[6][7] Until then, 81 of its 1068 rooms are unavailable, down from an initial 320. Nice shot of Burj Khalifa, MurrayHill! :-)

^I'm thinking that sounds like a great recipe for a winter salad :-) Another one I've picked up - one of the easiest things to make, the hubby loves it for snacking with chips: Salsa Verde Everything with a * just needs to be chopped into large chunks so they fit into a food processor: *8 to 10 tomatillos - husked and cored *1 half of a red onion *2-3 jalapeño peppers *2-3 fresno peppers *2 avocados (skin and seed removed, obviously) 1 handful of fresh cilantro (remove stems) Chuck it all into the processor until desired salsa texture, throw it in a bowl, get chips, eat.

General Roads & Highway Discussion (History, etc)
"Commuter Buzz: Add a dash of rain, and the road can act like "a section of ice," Brian Beal told The Cleveland Plain Dealer, describing the hazardous pavement sealant that was applied to parts of Interstate 90 last winter." That was one localized section way out in the eastern 'burbs and ODOT has since ground down the sealant - the problem was they laid it down too wide which reduced traction. If you're in Cleveland and you think traffic bottlenecks are bad here, you need to get out and see the world. I can attest to #2 on the list (Honolulu's H1) This shot is about 8 miles west of the CBD of Waikiki - that outbound clusterf#ck of traffic on the left wasn't moving and went on forever - it also has a counterpart east of the CBD. As beautiful as Honolulu is, I couldn't imagine dealing with this day in, day out:

Possible relocation to Cleveland
Okay, in that case I would recommend either downtown or Ohio City. You may have reverse sticker shock since $1000 can get you a sizable apartment in a decent building. Both are well-served by transit, and have plenty of cool places. If you live downtown, you'll probably be able to walk to work. Ohio City will probably be less expensive, and is the first Red Line RTA station west of downtown. Just so you know, Cleveland has a carsharing program similar to Zipcar/I-Go called City Wheels - http://www.mycitywheels.com/ If you find yourself only needing a car for an occasional errand, that might work for you. They have cars available in the University Circle and Shaker Square neighborhoods - both are on main transit routes. While bjk is correct that Detroit-Shoreway and Lakewood are great places, Cleveland's RTA - like many transit agencies across the nation - is proposing cuts to service. The further away from downtown Cleveland you go, the more impact those route cuts might have on your lifestyle.

Possible relocation to Cleveland
Welcome to the forum (and possibly Cleveland!). Could you give us a little more information about the following: 1. Your budget (guesstimate) for monthly rent. 2. Approximate location of your future employer - no need to disclose the company name but if we know the general vicinity, that would help. As far as cold - I'm a freezebaby (aka, if it's lower than 30F, I put on the thermals!) but it hasn't been too bad this winter. The biggest hurdle is to dress for the weather, and pay attention to forecasts.

Centrally located, great beer on tap (I can confirm Dortmunder Gold and Bells Two Hearted), transit-friendly (West 25th Red Line station just up the hill), parking for those who need it ... oh and the view from the bar:

What a ridiculous question - I mean please, just because my ISP crashed for a few hours and I made a call to another Admin to ask them to keep tabs on the threads I usually cover? Pfft... addictive... how utterly absur... oh alright, FINE! Yes, yes it is!
