"domestics" = servants, butlers, maids, "the help"

    YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.
  3. She also does motivational speaking, training, etc. I'm pretty sure she doesn't wear the Gladiator costume for that though
  4. The only image I haven't seen before is the last one (aka the others were presented as part of Stark's plan), with the glassy top. Looks like that would go at the southeast corner of West 6th and St. Clair.
  5. ^Thank you - my BMI is 25.1 (based on being 170 lbs. and 5'9"), which puts me ever so slightly in the "overweight" category. All the while I'm wearing my 30" jeans, small or medium shirts, and hitting the gym three times a week, with a hour each time being spent on the elliptical. Yes, the BMI can kiss my blobulous, overweight @ss.

Guys, if you're in the locker room at the gym and someone (apparently, it's ME this week) is in the way of your locker - instead of standing there, and staring at me silently like a sociopathic invertebrate - try saying "uh, 'scuse me - mind if I get in that locker?", or even a "urrr" and nodding at your locker.
  7. Well keep in mind that CAC and Akron are FAR smaller buildings, both around 80K feet (as opposed to CMA's almost 600K+ after completion), both sited on relatively compact urban blocks in a CBD- not an Olmsted designed lagoon/park surrounded by iconic buildings housing diverse institutions. Sure, CAC and Akron have more dynamic buildings but their setting and size are what make them work, IMHO. For CMA to get an ultra-modern addition, given the size and site? I can't say that would be a good thing.
  8. Honestly I don't see why you would take offense to his comment given the context - I think that the priest that cardsnxtyr referenced was being selfish and trying to strongarm the situation. Let's face it, it sounds like that specific priest (not ALL) was trying to extort card's donations to his parish - if he's being a good Catholic, what does it matter which parish he attended? And I'm very glad I wasn't raised Catholic, or Muslim, or Pentecostal, you name it - it's not an insult on those beliefs or those who choose to follow them, but an admittance that I don't think any of those would have been an ideal situation for me.
  9. ^You're referring to this - which would have also required demolition of the City Club building - but you're right, so glad that it never materialized:
  10. ^Agreed, especially if they find a space that offers something comparable to the Akron's outdoor terraces.
  11. Not sure how I missed this thread, but love this - it has perfect "His and His" wings of the house:
  12. "It's like slapping the top student in the class because he didn't get all the answers right. And the critics haven't even taken that test themselves!" So, so, so wonderfully put.

Since you'll get more traffic on this thread in General Discussions we can leave it here for now, but eventually we'll move it to "Forum Issues". Just a heads up :-)
  14. " Neither does anybody else here as we do not have access to that confidential information." In all seriousness, if you really believe that, you obviously don't know who is participating (or at least lurking) on this forum - their identity/information is strictly confidential (and will always be), but there are some here who have plenty of legitimate insight into different developments; in some cases, they're THE head honcho. That said - yes, there's plenty of vacant land in Cleveland to build a suburban-style office park - but do you think Eaton would want a huge swath of land just ANYwhere in the city? As MTS said, they absolutely wanted to dictate certain design elements of the rest of Flats East Bank... I absolutely support the City making its best effort to support businesses and give them every reasonable incentive to stay in the city limits, especially one as significant as Eaton - but bending over backward for every absurd whim at the expense of an area with the most potential? No. At some point it has to stop being about a CEO's or Mayor's ego and be about the best benefit for the city and the region.
  15. "just two bare brute animals battling it out." Oh pish-posh, I could totally take out a veal calf with one well-placed kick. (I'm completely joking of course). I don't disregard the health benefits of a more vegetarian diet, and I certainly support a more localized and organic food supply, and when meat is involved - that as little cruelty as possible is inflicted. Still, I'm going to enjoy the occasional burger or steak. As far as making sure every molecule of food entering my body is beneficial for my health... the way I see it, whether it's old age, a runaway bus, cancer, an aneurysm in my case - likely while pruning an off-topic thread on this forum, *something* will eventually end your life and we're all going to eventually drop dead. Sure, I could avoid the sun at all costs and slather on 30SPF sunscreen every 5 seconds - so I can be 90 years old and pasty? Sure, I could eat a purely vegan diet - but I'd never know the joy that is haloumi (or Danish blue, or Pecorino Romano) cheese. I do plenty to minimize my carbon footprint (car-free for five years, car-lite for four years, recycling just about everything recyclable, CFLs, buy locally when possible, etc.), but I enjoy living and a big part of that is all the glorious foods I enjoy (vegetarian or otherwise). But (and since it may not be obvious - I'm simply relaying some less than pleasant experiences I've had with vegans/vegetarians) don't try and foist off "Tofu-rkey" as tasty as a well basted/brined turkey at Thanksgiving (directed at the hippie knuckleheads who tried to convince me otherwise back at Kent State). I've had some great tofu dishes - one that comes to mind is the tofu appetizer at Pad Thai (Hudson/Fairlawn) with spicy peanut sauce. But tofur-crap is vile, flat out vile. And if you're a pasty gay vegan at the designated "single people table" at a lesbian wedding reception in the mid-90s in Akron who decides that vegetarian lasagna just isn't "pure" enough for you, and you've asked the servers at a rinkydink event center if you could see the industrial sized container of pancake mix (since that's all they could offer you) just so you can scan the ingredients and scoff sanctimoniously because even THAT's not good enough - do you think it's a great idea to 1. get preachy about the evils of meat and 2. subsequently hit on - the guy enjoying his steak (aka ME)?!? I mean, what the hell was he thinking? Dinner dates?!?!?
  16. ^I didn't see anything going on at *that* site, but I wasn't really looking too closely.
  17. Still plugging along:
  18. The tower crane is visible from the interior "portal" windows in the East galleries:
  19. And some more: Circle 118 27 Coltman
  20. Oh, I suppOSE I can post something ;-) Two on the left are for University Hospitals' new cancer center; small white one in the middle is for the art museum and the red one on the right is for the VA Hospital Cares tower.

My folks had planned on having me a few years later but apparently I wasn't having it. I do recall telling my Mom at age 4 that "if you have another kid, I'll STILL be the baby!". Good thing they didn't - I probably would have shoved it down the steps
  22. "I think they went downhill once the focus of the restaurant started to be Val's career and not fresh, healthy food." I'm inclined to agree - while it's unfortunate, I certainly can't and don't begrudge them for that, given how far Val has gone in her career. I was a regular there for quite some time and like you said, some of the tweaks you mentioned had a detrimental effect on the product and/or service. I think with the momentum of East 4th, 668 Euclid, etc. the space won't stay empty for long.
  23. Well a few people showed up, and we managed to clean quite a bit of the park. Thanks again for organizing this; nice to meet everyone today, let's try to schedule another for next month. :-)
