The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
^I've heard the phrase "it's not the first job you get in a new city, it's the second...". Meaning, it's great to move to a new city with a new job and whatnot. What's not so good is if that city's regional economy is questionable to the extent that if someone lost that first job, could they easily find a second job with comparable pay, etc.? You also have to consider that a lot of people in palijandro7's situation are in their 20s/early 30s and justifiably have some wanderlust that we've probably gotten out of our system. My friends in NYC and Chicago who moved there while they were young complain that the population is very transient and they're considering moving to smaller cities where they can settle down and get more for their money - but we're in our mid to late 30s. When it comes to the combination of affordability and top-notch amenities, especially when you focus on the affordability - Cleveland can hand most major cities their @ss. Cleveland also wins in the lack of pretentious/clueless idiots who move to a city thinking their zip code nullifies their cluelessness/pretentiousness/etc. - probably one of my favorite things about Cleveland. I don't think I'd ever want to see Cleveland get to the point where it's the #1 city on some douchebag Forbes list if it meant losing that down-to-earth quality. However - when it comes to having a diverse and robust enough economy that someone can move to a city, lose one job and have several options? Sorry - the larger cities will win out by default. Here's a perfect example - over the past decade or so, KeyBank and National City had a lot of cross-pollination. If Key had a rough year, the laid off folks would hop over to National City, and vice versa. Well, as we know too well - that option probably won't exist next year. (It's not just a Cleveland thing - Charlotte is feeling the same pain with Wachovia being acquired by Wells Fargo) When it comes to having a large enough population with a healthy amount of turnover so the dating pool doesn't stay stagnant? Maybe it's the notion of "it's not the first date/shag you land, it's the second"? Does that make any sense?

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Oh I got dibs on THAT! Anyway, a very good friend with great taste in restaurants raved about La Boca - and I imagine that if you ask for extra spicy, they'd be accomodating. It's definitely on my list of places to try next.

Cleveland: Edgewater Clean-Up Group
Keep in mind that you're recruiting during the busiest time of the summer; it's *absolutely* for a great cause but a lot of other great causes are having events right now and people might already be committed. I don't read that as lack of interest, more of lack of available time. I feel your pain; heck, it's not easy to organize a happy hour for the forum - and that's only asking for people to show up and drink! I know I can't commit to any specific day/time - summers are always crazybusy for me; but that's why I said if you get a small core group to decide on a day/time, post it here - and it's likely that some folks will drop by to help out. You don't need to have a huge group to start; so many great causes have started with just a few people so don't be discouraged by a low turnout in the beginning. After all, at one point UrbanOhio only had about 10 members :-)

Since you're the one bringing the argument back - you can either settle it via private messaging, or you can have a few days off. Take your pick.

The Future of America and Its Cities
"Another problem would be the crowd that complains the poor and minorities would be pushed out..which would be a good thing since they are a big reason people left the cities...." Well at least you don't beat around the bush with your racist views.

Detroit- Indian Village, part 2
Fixed that for you - Cudell (south of Clifton) doesn't have too many homes of that size and grandeur. And "far" west side... I think of West Park as being far west, not Edgewater.

Cleveland Eateries: A Where To Guide for Visitors and Residents
"(Clutch my pearls & Gasp) How dare you." Easily. Have you ever heard the phrase "Happy wife, happy life."? The lady wants Italian, she gets Italian - otherwise the guy wants something, but he won't get "something" - capiche? So try to break out of your Shady Square/Table 45 hoity-toity bubble once in a while ;-) Anyhoo, stopped by El Jalapeño on West 117th (just south of Clifton) - it's not "purist" Mexican (for those who scoff at Nuevo Acapulco, etc.), but I'd put it among the better Mexican restaurants in Cleveland. I had the molé poblano and it was fantastic; the guac wasn't as good as my recipe but it was perfectly fine. The server was very accommodating when I said "por favor, necesito practicar mi español?" :-)

I might suggest that if you get a core group and a confirmed day/time, post it in this thread in case some additional folks would be interested. :-)

Guys who don't follow the "every other" rule (when possible) at the urinals. Personal space doubles once in a restroom or locker room - it says so in the Bible.
