  1. "Actually, there are some indigenous grasses such as big&little bluestem, implemented into the public art project--representing Ohio's natural heritage, which I thought was a nifty addition to promote more such island plantings in preference to energy consuming turf grass--which is basically an eco-dead zone." My post you referenced was made in 2007 and at the time, it WAS a big patch of grass.
  2. Snapped a pic of the Fulton Road Bridge from I-71:
  3. Got 'em - I'll try to post them this week :-)

Great shots - LOVE the Renkert Building!
  5. Whatever you're smoking...
  6. See the low-rise building on the lower right of that image? That's City Hall. Imagine if you were in a helicopter, hovering over the Convention Center and looking north toward Lake Erie. I'm split - part of me thinks that had the Progressive tower been built there, there would be spin-off development that would connect to the lakefront. It would also have been Frank Gehry's first significant high-rise development (and look at how his museum design turned out for Bilbao - huge amount of tourism just to see some wackadoodle building). On the other hand, it might have ended up being a corporate fortress, with cost overruns that brought financial hardship to the city, so who knows.

Love it, love it, LOVE IT. EVERY place in Cleveland that wants to market their commercial space should take notes (though perhaps some links could be added for those who want more in-depth info). Other than that - LOVE. IT. (and if you or anyone in the complex could use a designer with 16 years of experience and a work ethic like no other, shoot me a PM ;-) ). Or if you'd like some geek to stop by with a camera and let him go hog wild :-D

The flagpole is 70 feet, making the total height 778 feet. Generally - according to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (the folks generally used for official height), spires/antennas are considered part of the building's design but flagpoles have a more decorative role. It's splitting hairs if you ask me, but oh well.

d@mn you web filter at work..No youtube access... Is it a Dana Carvey Grumpy old man skit? Nope, it's the episode of "Just Shoot Me" where Nina Van Horn says "Everyone is so quick to blame the absentee father, but let me tell you something: it's casual wear that's ruining this society!"

Thought I'd point this out to you folks - please go to bing.com (aka microsoft's homepage). On it, they have a photo of the Atlanta skyline. When you scroll over the various boxes, they pop up with factoids - well, one claims that Atlanta elected the nation's first African-American mayor in 1971. A simple check on wikipedia shows that Springfield, Ohio was first (1966) - and that Cleveland was the first major US city to have an African-American mayor in 1968. Go to the site, scroll to the bottom and on the lower right is the feedback button. Sock it 'em, kids! :whip: http://www.bing.com/
  17. It's about 30 blocks east of downtown - keep in mind that if you're expecting something along the lines of say, Chinatown in SF or Toronto, it's not as built up. Visually speaking, it looks like a typical inner-city Cleveland neighborhood but the signage is how you know you're there. There are three Korean restaurants located in Asiatown - I've only been to Seoul Hot Pot; not the fanciest place (like many good ethnic restaurants) but good food and according to friends - very authentic. Here's the website for Asiatown - click on "Dining"; most places have a menu available: http://www.asiatowncleveland.com/
  18. Welllll, not exactly - I took an image of another tower designed by Frank Gehry and Photoshopped it onto the skyline just to get a basic idea of how it would have looked. *This* was the plan for the Progressive Center (and it looks nothing like Trump Chicago): "Are any of these still a possibility? In this economy, who knows? There's some momentum happening with East 4th Street and Euclid, so possibly the 515 Euclid building could end up being built, and while it's on hold - the Flats East Bank office tower had two significant tenants signed up. But again, in this economy... :-|
  19. Works for me - though I would add as the final bullet point: "Being a member, and participating on this forum is a privilege, not a right." :-)
  20. "MayDay, great pics, but you're supposed to put dimes on Rockefeller's grave, not quarters." HelLO, I was laid off in February, I can use all the good fortune I can get!!!
  21. ^I have the "Newsflash" shirt :-)
  22. So far I agree with Playhouse Square, the Towpath Trail - starting in Peninsula, and definitely the West Side Market http://www.westsidemarket.com but instead of doing the picnic in Market Square park, I recommend ordering some prepared foods (I have some favorites, let me know and I'll post them) and going to the mezzanine level of the Market and grab a seat there and just take in the action. Just out of curiosity, you mention a trip to South Korea - would you be interested in any Korean restaurants? Cleveland has two three, both located in Asiatown.
