^The fact that they have Commodore Perry on tap definitely gives them bonus points in my eyes! :drunk:
  3. I'm unemployed and even I can't imagine taking this much time out of my day for posting half the diatribes you knuckleheads have in this thread!
  4. cardsnxtyr, that's great to hear - glad she got a chance to enjoy some of the best spots in Cleveland. The thing is - while it's not on any scale with Cleveland, there are a few historic buildings in downtown Phoenix. And much of the nightlife in Phoenix is concentrated in Scottsdale and Tempe - but whatever the case, glad to see positive feedback :-)
  5. "Here's hoping I don't end up with one of those 'this topic has been pruned...' deals." Let's see, your post is: 1. On topic. 2. Non-inflammatory. 3. Not a duplicate that someone else posted. I'd say you're just fine - and welcome to the forum! :-)
  6. We had perfect weather for a great event, here are some shots - and some happy summertime music from Sophie Ellis Bextor to go with them! Lolita is one of "Iron Chef" Michael Symon's restaurants: Across Professor Street, work continues in a former bank building which will be home to Dante (chef Dante Bocuzzi): The steps at St. John Cantius are a popular spot to grab a seat: Lovely day for a Guinness (or just about anything for that matter): A brief stop in the Treehouse bar: Michael Symon talking to fans and friends: Off to the beer garden! Wienerschnitzels!!! God's work being done here: Back over to Professor and Literary, where the corner was dedicated to Michael Symon - Councilman Joe Cimperman and Symon chat: Mayor Frank Jackson offers his congratulations: Sorry for the odd angle, I was able to get closer but didn't want to block the view for folks behind me: Every proper chef has a good pair of clogs: Joe Cimperman, Liz Symon (Michael's wife), Symon, Chris Garland (executive director of Tremont West Development Corporation) and the president of the local block club prepare to unveil the sign: Wait for it ... And there it is - he really has earned his recognition, and he's very humble about it: Liz and Michael Symon again: St. John Cantius, again: Fabulous weather, fabulous event! Hope you enjoyed - I sure did!
  7. Had some free time, thought I'd put this together:
  8. The hits just keep on coming! From cleveland.com: Ameritrust deal's link to corruption case: 2 figures cited in bribery plea were involved in sale By Damon Sims July 19, 2009, 4:15AM http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2009/07/ameritrust_deals_link_to_corru.html For four years, Cuyahoga County taxpayers have asked questions about the commissioners' controversial $40 million purchase and renovation of the Ameritrust complex downtown, questions that have grown louder since federal investigators revealed a massive government corruption probe a year ago. Wow. Just - wow.
  10. ^Approved pre-recession and it's in a prime spot in NYC, would be my guess.
  11. We got down to just south of I-490.

For those of you who wouldn't be available - I sincerely apologize, but I have to say - it's refreshing to see that the forum has grown to the point where we have an equal amount of people who can or cannot attend. :-)
  13. No matter what you think of her (and to be honest, I don't care WHO said it but it happened to be her), I *love* the quote from Jane Campbell when she was asked "what's the best thing that could happen for the city of Cleveland?" - her response? "Secede from the state of Ohio". I admire and appreciate the cities of Columbus, Cincinnati, etc. - I love visiting, I have friends there, but simply put - when it comes to transit, they didn't get it for decades and they're just now catching up to us. Cleveland alone has rail transit worth mentioning (and the first airport-to-downtown route in the Western hemisphere), along with the first BRT line in Ohio, but god forbid the downstate politicians acknowledge that, and even worse - support that!
  14. I was there today, and aside from one small stretch between Nauti Mermaid and Starbucks, it was pretty much done. Nothing fancy but that extra square footage makes a big difference!

I'd heard that the building on the left (ugly 70s looking thing) has some structural issues - are they planning to bring it down?

I could tentatively make it to an August 6th happy hour.

Check ahead to see what day has the best weather - and on that day, go on a cruise on the Goodtime III. Here's why: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,19684.0.html
  18. That does just fine - shows that they're going to town pretty quickly!
  19. Stated perfectly.
  20. Try it now :-)
  21. Oh for pity's sake, get your minds out of the gutter! Since I've wrapped up some big freelance projects and it was SUCH an obscenely gorgeous day, I decided to treat myself to a noontime cruise on the Goodtime III! Sure, some of the views are from the same vantage points but the lighting is different, and this time we went waaay further south on the Cuyahoga than I'd ever been on previous cruises. Oh, and for the budget conscious, go to their website and you can download a coupon for $1 off ($14 instead of $15). https://www.goodtimeiii.com/ A special shoutout to the folks from the Bedford Recreation program - there were at least one hundred elementary-school aged kids on this cruise (the sight of more than one of them is normally enough to make me jump overboard), but the counselors did a good job at keeping the kids corralled. In honor of the ship that got me these 90+ shots, I give you the appropriate soundtrack: 1 - This is THE Goodtime!!! 2 - And the view of downtown Cleveland from where the Goodtime is docked: 3 - Folks enjoying a day of fishing: 4 - Like I said - *perfect* weather: 5 - Pedestrians enjoying said perfect weather: 6 - A family with a small child enjoying time in downtown Cleveland?!? The h#ll you say!!! 7 - Kind of an odd looking plane: 8 - Yeah, and I was worried about how the angle of the sun would affect my pics, pfft! 9 - Lakewood - Gold Coast in the foreground, downtown in the background: 10 - Coast Guard Station - I *love* how close you can get to the river traffic (see the people on the right?) 11 - Just a bridge here or there: 12 - Tell me again how Flats East Bank isn't shovel-ready?!? 13 - You know the routine, just another bridge: 14 - Lunch crowd at Shooters on the West Bank of the Flats: 15 - I think this bridge is the most bad@ss (not prettiest, not coolest, but bad@ss) of them all: 16 - Rooflines over the years: 17 - Stonebridge Plaza getting a touch-up: 18 - Tallest in Ohio: 19 - Center Street swing bridge - swung: 20 - Postcard and postage stamp view: 21 - Flats foreground, Warehouse District background: 22 - Rinse... 23 ... lather and repeat: 24 - No words needed: 25 - Columbus Road lift bridge detail: 26 - Postcard view #2: 27 - Framing again: 28 - Hooples bar, a Duck Island landmark and the West Side Market clocktower - the landmark of Ohio City, and the Columbus Road bridge: 29 - Landmarks of the southwestern section of the Warehouse District - the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen (thanks to KJP for clarification!) and Perry-Payne buildings: 30 - Framing one more time! 31 - And the Columbus Road bridge one more time!! 32 - "Diaphanus" is the best way to describe the clouds that day: 33 - Cleveland Trust Tower and AT&T Huron Road: 34 - The B&O Railroad building, *still* awaiting restoration: 35 - Folks at the riverfront Sherwin-Williams campus taking time from lunch to wave hello: 36 - While others enjoy the beautiful day: 37 - Detail of Landmark Office Towers, HQ for Sherwin-Williams: 38 - Federal Courthouse Tower: 39 - And the full view of Landmark Office Towers: 40 - Eagle Street Bridge and a few more office towers: 41 - The next few shots showcase some of the hottest guys in Cleveland ;-) 42 43 44 - Over under... 45 - Under over? 46 - If it walks, quacks - wait, that's not a duck! 47 - West 3rd Street bridge, one of the most recently rehabbed bridges: 48 - Since Cleveland is relatively flat, it's not often one gets shots like this: 49 - Bright sun, stainless steel = shimmery! 50 - To paraphrase Scooby Doo - "if it weren't for that meddling concrete silo, I'd have had a great shot!!!" 51 - Ah well, the towers of Playhouse Square: 52 - We're as far south as Tremont - Tremont Pointe in the foreground, and St. Theodosius Russian Orthodox church in the background: 53 - Not as close to downtown, these poor bridges don't get as much love (but they're just as kick@ss): 54 - Minus the big three, this looks like a respectable skyline for a smaller city: 55 - But you can't just forget the big three, now can ya? ;-) 56 - Alright, I'll shut up - just admire the bridges: 57 58 59 - Not sure if this guy was allowed to be on top of a gravel pile, but screw it - it made for a cool shot: 60 - Sorry, I love my Art Deco: 61 - Saw something out of the corner of my eye, thought it was a seagull - pfft!!! It's a heron!!! 62 - After our nature break, it's back to the skyscrapers: 63 - And the "towers" of Progressive Field: 64 - Woohoo! More scaffolding being removed from the Terminal Tower! 65 - This building manages to look pretty cool at certain angles: 66 - The Western Reserve building - Burnham in the Warehouse District! 67 - Okay, I see why people call the Federal Courthouse tower the "barcode" building: 68 - But it makes a nice "bookend" for the western part of the skyline: 69 - Tried this on the previous cruise - much better results this time around: 70 - This derelict building near the Center Street bridge looks scary and cool at the same time: 71 - Detroit-Superior bridge - looking superior, indeed: 72 - Stonebridge Towers, Stonebridge Apartments, and Stonebridge Plaza: 73 - Settlers Landing, with people!!! 74 - Sun was starting to wash out colors here: 75 - Sooo, nowadays when ODOT wants to build a highway, they demolish everything in a two mile radius? :? 76 - OHIO!!! Where's Drew Carey when you need him?!? 77 - ""It has always been my opinion that the shortest, easiest and least expensive communication with the invaluable back country would be to let the courses and distances be taken to the mouth of the Muskingum and up that river to the carrying place to the Cuyahoga, down the Cuyahoga to Lake Erie." - George Washington 78 - Okay, other concrete silos have been converted to residential use - if that happens here, sign me up!! 79 - The former Coast Guard station, *still* awaiting reuse: 80 - Yeah, this was a good day for a cruise: 81 - and photos, of course: 82 - About time my pilot got here with my ride! :-D 83 - A little bit of everything in the Warehouse District: 84 - Lakewood, lighthouse: 85 - Just another skyline shot: 86 - I want a houseboat, and I want to anchor it right at this spot (except during the winter): 87 - Bridge - frame, it's all good: 88 - Nautica Queen, pfft! It's all about the Goodtime!!! :-D 89 - Five bank buildings in this pic: 90 - OMG, that family from the William G. Mather spent several hours in downtown Cleveland and emerged unharmed!!! ;-) 91 - Not sure how I missed that the Rock Hall has outdoor dining: 92 - I wonder if my photo is appearing on some "Sandal-wearing female photographer" forum? 93 - Heading south on East 9th Street: 95 - This was so surreal, I couldn't help but snap a pic! 96 - And for some reason, that plane kept circling Burke Lakefront Airport: 97 - Let's leave everything on an upnote - hope you enjoyed! :-)
  22. Yes, that's St. Lukes, and the building where Lifeflight is, is the Sam Miller Pavilion (where the Clinic's emergency room is located).
  23. "do you know -- is the the same if its a credit transaction vs a bank debit transaction?" Why do you think banks give you incentives for using your PIN? Everytime you use a bank card as a credit card, the bank loses out.

    1. Are you staying at a hotel? What area? No need to mention the specific place. 2. What days do you have that are "open" (aka days where we can give you a full-blown itinerary, not "try and stop by ___".) 3. Any specific interests? Architecture, arts, performances, sports, etc.? 4. Any culinary preferences or restrictions? 5. If you'd be interested in a walking tour of downtown Cleveland, I could be available depending on my schedule.
