  1. Bah! That's not an image of the building, THIS is! :-)
  2. "Some of the units have spectacular views of downtown!" Good lord, you aren't kidding!! And WELCOME to the forum!
  3. Not the greatest photo of 1240 Huron, but it's all I have for now (beige building to the right of USBank Center):
  4. They opened it on rare occasions for special events (one that comes to mind was the "Free Cleveland" weekend, another was during the holidays), but it's been quite some time.
  5. Not stupid at all - it was a millisecond of a clip of the Washington Monument which is based on the iconic form of the Egyptian obelisk. And from certain angles, Key Tower isn't too different from that. For example:
  6. That would be the Washington Monument.
  7. Folks... the topic is Midtown Developments. It's been a while since I've suspended someone, and while I'd like to keep it that way...
  8. That's actually the rooftop pavilion (partially enclosed) of the new Vascular Institute - and, it's open to the public :-) Great set of shots!

Two questions. 1. This image - from Riverside Cemetery? 2. Have a larger version of it? :-) Thanks again for yet another post of amazing images.
  10. "Do you know if you can take photos from the top of Tower City? I hear that it was closed for awhile because of Homeland Security but this may have lifted." No, you cannot - at least not now. It's still closed. I don't want to come across like a jerk, but as owner/webmaster of clevelandskyscrapers.com, every month I get a handful of emails from people asking if the observation deck is open. It's great to see people interested, but it's time consuming to dispel rumors, know what I mean? Believe me, if/when the observation deck reopens, this forum will know about it and yours truly will be among the first in line :-)
  11. Not at all - I can happily tip my hat to someone whose skills clearly exceed mine; I'm just glad stickware shares them with us on UrbanOhio. Fabulous images as always :-)
  12. I've heard decent (not "ooh wow, amazing" but "pretty good") things about Americano - fyi, it's located in One Bratenahl Place. The new spot in Tremont at Fairfield and West 11th is Loop - it's supposed to be an art gallery/coffeeshop/record store.

Welcome to the forum, and hopefully to Cleveland! If you could tell us some areas in Pittsburgh that you like, we can see if there's a comparable area in Cleveland. Your budget will get you a very nice 1-bedroom just about anywhere, or a pretty good 2-bedroom in most desirable areas. As far as the city layout - it's much more straightforward than Pittsburgh. I like Pittsburgh a lot, but when it comes to day-to-day getting around the city, I think Cleveland's more manageable if for no other reason - most of the city proper is on a grid. Just reading what you've posted so far - I would recommend checking out the area around the East 4th Street district. The Warehouse District is great, but I think a lot of the places there cater to the 20-something crowd.

Yes, our very Robert Pence - it's his birthday today!
  15. You're all thinking of the former Diamondback Brewery, which then became Phil the Fire, which then became the Waterhouse restaurant, and is now vacant.

If nothing else, please put on your seatbelt - it's rude to expect others to clean you your mess off their car. :-)
  17. It is/was an Irish pub style eatery planned for the space at the southwest corner of East 4th and Euclid (in the Windsor Building). I highly recommend learning how the forum's search function works. It will search for key words at whatever level you're viewing. For example, if you typed in "Blackfinn" while viewing this thread - it will only pull up posts from this thread. If you typed in "Blackfinn" on the forum's home page, it will pull up every post/thread on the forum containing "Blackfinn". It's actually pretty handy for finding out the answers to questions that have been answered a few times :-)
  18. The Main Avenue bridge has white uplights at the base of each arch (it looked blue because of the bridge's paint job). Last I checked, the Jack Knife bridge is lit as part of the bicentennial bridge lighting. CSU Rhodes Tower used to be floodlit, but I believe it was outgoing president Michael Schwartz who decided to switch to the green "CSU" signage for two reasons; 1. it's much less expensive and 2. adding the signage helped as far as wayfinding. The Hope Memorial pylons - I agree, they need to have better lighting.

"Yes it was significant to Cleveland, but Cleveland also seemed to have more industrial diversity and just was not as dominated by steel as Pittsburgh." Exactly. In Pittsburgh's case, the steel industry was vaporized in a short period of time - so Pittsburgh HAD to transition its economic base quickly. In Cleveland's case, heavy industry has been dying a prolonged death over several decades, and subsequently the transition to a more diverse economy is happening at a slower pace.
  20. Check your private messages.
  21. I understand the rationale behind the post, but let's get back to the 668 Euclid project and discuss retail/economic theories in the appropriate threads.
  22. ^Fabulous to know, thank you!!
  23. And you can get that explanation via private message. I read it as "wait for another case of a property owner to act as though their property is worth much more than it actually is" - and I don't think that would be a first in Cleveland. But that's for Qwios to explain. As Rob said - take it to PM. Thank you.
