  1. I'm sorry - did someone say Burning River Pale Ale? And the appropriate music, after all - as someone (apparently other than Ben Franklin, who really cares?) said - beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. And Burning River makes me the happiest:
  2. ^Moriarity's and Little Bar?
  3. Cloud Gate (the bean) cost $23 million dollars, and the Crown Fountain (water walls) cost $17 million.
  4. Video rundown of some projects from cleveland.com - not a whole lot of new information, but a good overview of recent developments: http://videos.cleveland.com/plain-dealer/2009/06/development_in_cleveland_more.html

"-Go to the top of the hancock tower. Its free and the views ar as good as Sears Tower." Wrong - there's an admission fee to go to the top of the Hancock Tower http://www.hancock-observatory.com/en/Things_to_do/general_info.html However, the cheaper option is to go to the bar at the Signature Room on the 95th floor. Just order a drink - they're pricey but less expensive than you'd pay for admission to the observation level. http://www.signatureroom.com/
  6. I believe it's the basement level of Bier Markt.
  7. I can't think of any directly in Tremont but downtown isn't that far at all. There's Fitworks at East 6th and Euclid (where I go), and Rezults in Tower City Center. Not sure of what they charge but Fit is a personal training studio in Ohio City at 3408 Bridge.
  8. From wkyc.com: http://www.wkyc.com/news/local/news_article.aspx?storyid=115295&catid=3 CLEVELAND -- Channel 3 News has learned that Dick Jacobs, former owner of the Cleveland Indians and prominent businessman passed away after a long illness. Jacobs is the chairman and CEO of The Richard E. Jacobs Group, a real estate development company that he co-founded with his late brother David. Jacobs was instrumental in rebuilding the Cleveland Indians and their new ballpark, which affectionately became known as the "Jake". Under his ownership Cleveland became the Cadillac of franchises in Major League Baseball winning two American League Pennants and six Central Division Championships. During his ownership the team went to two World Series in 1995 and 1997 and a record of 455 consecutive sellouts at Jacob's Field. In 2001 Jacobs sold the team to Larry Dolan and family for 320 million. The Jacobs Group is headquartered in Cleveland and has prospered in its 50 years of growth. The group remains active in development and is owner of numerous shopping centers, office buildings, hotels and mixed use developments. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. ............... Whatever you think of him, he (and his company) built some of downtown Cleveland's most iconic buildings:
  9. ^Is that space the one that used to be E Street Cafe and then International Wraps? Those window seats are great for people-watching at lunchtime. Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Errr... I think the pontoon cancels that out!
  14. That poster on city-data is incorrect; the home in question is smack-dab in the middle of the Auburn Block Club. A lot of problems in that vicinity were related to the Starkweather Tavern - now known as Tremont Tap House (and with MUCH better clientele). Some of the backstreets to the north and west are rough around the edges, but Starkweather itself is a pretty main route, with more "eyes on the street". I get irked when someone says "_____ isn't really considered Tremont" - that basically perpetuates the mentality that everyone here is a yuppie living in tax-abated new construction and that's hardly the case.
  15. "Not everyone has them as mentioned earlier." For the record - on my block there are pugs, papillons, pomeranians (walked daily by a lady in her 90s), a miniature pinscher, a cocker spaniel and a maltese. I know, hard core vicious breeds - but I'm just sayin' ;-)
  16. Welcome to the forum! As a resident of Tremont, I think it's important to note that yes - crime is higher here than in West Park. Keep in mind that much of it is property crime but there's also more to it than statistics. In no way, shape or form would I ever say things are hunkydory but it depends on what area of Tremont*, and the real story behind the statistics**. * Generally, the area west of I-90 bordering the Clark-Metro area has more crime. Housing is definitely more affordable but you also have less access to the amenities Tremont is known for. ** Having lived in Tremont for a while, it's another case of what area, and I've also learned that in some cases (not all, but some), there's more to the story than the police blotter. For instance the guy who says "my car was broken into" actually left his laptop bag on the passenger seat while grabbing drinks with friends, or "my apartment was burglarized" means "someone got into my place - I didn't lock the door since I just walked out for 30 minutes to grab coffee". Nothing will stop someone hellbent, but as someone who hid valuables in the trunk and locked their doors even in my hometown of 11K, I'm baffled that anyone wouldn't take some simple deterrent steps in an innercity neighborhood. As for highway access - for an innercity 'hood, Tremont has surprisingly good access. You have I-71 and 176 (Jennings Freeway) at the southern end, and I-490 (connects to I-77) on the eastern edge. Yes, you have a little bit more of a mixed bag when it comes to property upkeep but keep in mind that you have people who live here who may well have been born in their homes. Sure, there are some problem rentals and not everyone keeps their home in immaculate condition but as you pointed out, this area is more diverse (socioeconomically, racially, you name it) than West Park. Also - have you considered living in Ohio City proper? It's close to Tremont hotspots but also gives you more of the day-to-day amenities within walking distance. Just throwing that into the hopper for debate's sake. Each area is going to have a trade-off, so it depends on what realllly matters to you. So that said, feel free to contact me via the forum's private message system. I can give you more details, especially if you've found a house in Tremont that you're considering.
  17. Is there a reason you can't work with him again? Is it because he's really that bitchy? I'm not one to gossip, but I heard..... I admit that my strength (and 80% of my experience) is print-based. That said, I can do some online basics, but once it gets into heavier coding/programming territory, I need to defer to someone else.

"It's hard to plan financially when there are a host of variables that you don't control that can reduce and/or stop your income on a weekly/monthly basis" I've recently joined your hell after 4.5 years of steady salaried work - not a fan.

Well - according to him, he was contacted by the clergy of his constituency who encouraged him to vote against the registry.

It's well known that Zack Reed has frequented several of Cleveland's gay bars. I saw him at the Grid a few years back and he seemed *quite* comfortable being there.

I thought he got booted off for being arrogant and argumentative and repeatedly trying to stir up sh!t. I hated to see him go, because it was fun watching everyone pile on him when he got out of line, which was every time he posted. Amongst other reasons (including being a racist), he was banned for saying that "I should show up at the forum meet and blow up some cans of gasoline!!!". I'm sure the context was a joke and meant as "this will piss off the pro-transit people", but after his history of trolling, it was the last straw and it was my absolute pleasure to send him packing. I'm glad everyone was amused by the antics of an idiot, but remember that there's someone who has to clean up the mess created by said idiots, and we don't get paid to do so.
  23. " We're not specifically looking for a major city on a beach" If you DO want that, Honolulu - specifically Waikiki, dozens of hotels on or very close to the beach plus city amenities in easy access. I would go back in a heartbeat. Cost could be an issue but there are a lot of places cutting deals in this economy, so if you've never been, good god - go for it.
  24. ^They've replaced some of the panels of railing with a more camera-friendly "grid" fence. Not perfect but much easier to snap some decent photos.

Information on the Greek Heritage Festival (and yes, I recommend a visit) http://www.annunciationcleveland.com/Festival.dsp On Saturday, the 23rd - there's the Detroit-Superior Bridge tour http://www.cuyctyengineers.org/subway_tour.htm The Botanical Gardens in University Circle (easily accessed via the Healthline, Euclid and Adelbert station) are offering free admission over the weekend http://www.cbgarden.org/events/community_free_days.html On Saturday, the West Side Market will be open (across from the Red Line rapid station at West 25th) - it'll be busy as hell but it's like Columbus' North Market with more of an old-world flavor http://www.westsidemarket.org/ Just a few ideas, I'll try to find more...
