  1. "Calm down, I never asked for your permission, and don't think I need it!" No, but considering Rob is a Moderator who has the Admins blessing to help run this joint - you might want to watch your tone.

^Well for those of us whose metabolism bailed a few years back, it's a little more than THREE extra minutes on the elliptical. And I don't get this "bad economy = crappy food" mentality. Am I the only person who *didn't* live off ramen noodles or other such nutritional styrofoam in college?

Is that PVC on the left side of that gate?
  4. ^I could be wrong, but I believe both of the SSPers are Emiratis.

Easily - you've been on a spree lately, and they're starting to show up gratuitously and not even adding "oomph" to your posts. You're diluting your brand, dear. :-) Anyway, I'm well aware that it's important to single male, small family, blah-dee-f#cking blah and people want heritage/lineage/yadda-yadda to continue. I'm also aware that people want LOTS of things out of life but need to get a grip. Plenty of species of animals have gone extinct - it happens; and are people so self-absorbed that they can't fathom this world going on without their DNA in it? Apparently they are - from how I've seen some parents, etc. treat their children who choose to be childless. What's worse are the people who inflict that crap on the parents of childless couples.

So? So bloody what if your family name doesn't carry on - I have *never* understood why people make such a deal about this. The worst is when I see parents or grandparents pressuring their kids to procreate for that reason.

"and for starting this, you should wear a 70s sequence tube top to the Auto show!" SEQUENCE? SEQUENCE?!? It's SEQUINED - as in a shirt with SEQUINS, you DIMWIT!!!

At one point, I thought it'd be nice to raise a little girl but then I got to spend family time with my partner's nieces and great-nieces. They're all between the lovely tender ages of 7 and 12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlMJsB8vBWM Nope - no kids for me. Ever.
  11. Correct me if I'm wrong, the Euclid facade is the front - complete with a godforsaken waaaay-too-big setback? Philip Johnson had some great buildings in his day - too bad this isn't one of them.

^Thank you peanut gallery, but I don't have the microphone, I *am* the microphone!

^No, just spread it over a nice set of buns.
  14. Over the years, I've come to realize that when visitors mention that Clevelanders (and most Great Lakes residents) are "friendly", they don't mean as Avogadro said - a "well howwwwwdy!!!" (which I find completely nauseating, and most often perpetuated by dried-up former pageant queens from the South). It's more of a down-to-earth sense of being *approachable*. What I've definitely learned in my travels - if you're out at a bar and you overhear someone say "oh cut the crap, what's REALLY your story?" - chances are it's one of us (Great Lakes folks) calling someone out.
  15. Folks, I deleted quite a few posts - let's get the thread back on topic.
  16. And CUT! Take it to PM, guys.
  17. Again, clvlndr - who is "we" and "us"? You don't know who has (or hasn't) tried to persuade the Clinic into reconsidering their plans. Would it make any difference if we organized a sit-in? Exactly how do you propose we put a stop to all these travesties? If you want to raise a stink with someone, try the Cleveland Restoration Society. I don't like the idea that they're planning to demolish the building, but I don't have time in my life to organize a protest - do you? However, trying to heap guilt on "we desperate Clevelanders" for the Clinic's plans to demolish this building? Just like your griping about the Dual Hub plan... not everyone is into self-flagellation.
  18. If the article is correct, he wasn't targeted simply for being "different", he was targeted because he was perceived to be gay. I know all too well what this kid went through - it goes far and beyond the "kids are cruel" sh!t excuse. Teen Commits Suicide Due to Bullying: Parents Sue School for Son's Death http://abcnews.go.com/Health/MindMoodNews/story?id=7228335&page=1 Family Wants No Money but Insists School Address Bullying and Three Other Suicides By SUSAN DONALDSON JAMES April 2, 2009 — Eric Mohat, 17, was harassed so mercilessly in high school that when one bully said publicly in class, "Why don't you go home and shoot yourself, no one will miss you," he did. Now his parents, William and Janis Mohat of Mentor, Ohio, have filed a lawsuit in federal court, saying that their son endured name-calling, teasing, constant pushing and shoving and hitting in front of school officials who should have protected him. The lawsuit -- filed March 27, alleges that the quiet but likable boy, who was involved in theater and music, was called "gay," "fag," "queer" and "homo" and often in front of his teachers. Most of the harassment took place in math class and the teacher -- an athletic coach -- was accused of failing to protect the boy. ABC News' information specialist Melissa Lenderman contributed to this report.
  19. ^Pretty much :| "The Clinic plans to replace the building with a 206-space parking lot" + "In the future, the land at East 105th and Carnegie could be used for a new Clinic building, although the organization has no immediate plans to build anything on the site."
  20. From cleveland.com: Cleveland Clinic will soon demolish one of Cleveland's few prominent Art Deco buildings http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2009/04/cleveland_clinic_will_soon_dem.html Posted by slitt April 03, 2009 17:04PM Steven Litt/The Plain Dealer The OCPM building has been a familiar urban fixture for decades. Time's up for the former Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine Building at East 105th Street and Carnegie Avenue. One of the few prominent examples of Art Deco architecture in Cleveland will soon be demolished... ..... The building in question is the beige one on the right:

    It's reversed, you amateurs.
  23. ^While it's definitely a step up from my previous (Minolta Z6 point-and-shoot), it's far from "fancy" - there are people on this forum who have cameras and lenses that make mine look like an Instamatic from back in the day.
  24. Just two little tidbits... 1. Great Lakes Brewing Company is running a sale (not sure what locations/stores but definitely Dave's) - $1.50 off ALL six-packs* *might not include seasonals - oh well. and 2. The Garfield Monument in Lake View Cemetery is open (as of April 1st):
  25. Speaking for Tremont, if you have cars - you'll likely want to find a place that offers off-street parking or ideally a garage. I usually recommend that you try to stay east of I-90/I-71 - there are decent spots on the western portion but the eastern portion of Tremont is less spotty.
