Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Believe me, I've asked the good folks at Indies (Colonial Marketplace, 530 Euclid) to please please please PLEASE open a small full-service spot. It doesn't need to be as expansive as Indigo was, just a dinky place with a dozen tables or so.

Pet Peeves!
"Hell, everyone has a snow blower these day or kids. I'm sure there are kids out there that are going door to door (do they still do that?) asking people if they need their drive done. My brother and I had to go out and shover the drive when we were kids and we shoveled our neighbors drive." Careful, the "everyone has a snow blower" line sounds awfully like "I don't know how many homes we have", and no - kids aren't just jumping at the chance to shovel driveways and sidewalks. These are different times we live in, kiddo. Marado, do yourself a favor - run, do not walk - to the hardware store and pick up the following: Note that it has an ergonomic (bent) handle, but more importantly it has the "rolled" scoop. I swear it's the best $20ish I've ever spent - the rolled scoop allows you to get behind the shovel and push like a wheelbarrow and move the snow instead of scooping it and lifting it. It's not as thorough as a snowblower but there's waaaaay less lifting, and when you do have to lift - the bent handle requires less back strain.

New Uses for Old Churches
^^Most churches that are put into different uses have their own people "deconsecrate" it before the sale. And with due respect, people need to get over themselves - if they want to keep the building from being demolished or "sullied" by a re-use they don't approve of - they should buy the d@mn thing themselves. It reminds me of the knucklehead from Fairview Park who wrote in to the Plain Dealer to b!tch about an abandoned church in Cleveland's Edgewater neighborhood being converted into a Borders-style bookstore - mind you, they admitted they hadn't set foot in it for years or much less driven by it, but god forbid (pun very much intended) that someone else have better stewardship than the former flock. And yes, Josaphat Arts Hall/Convivium33 Gallery is an amazing space and a wonderful example.

Cleveland: Downtown Cleveland Alliance News & Discussion
Just wanted to say THANK YOU to the DCA for making an effort to plow/salt the sidewalk in front of the former NBC/East Ohio building on East 6th. It's not perfect, but it's SO much better than it usually is!

New Uses for Old Churches
The bookstore, the rock climbing... that's all nice, but my favorite (so far) is the Church Brew Works in Pittsburgh: http://www.churchbrew.com/ The sad part is that it bears a striking resemblance to St. Agnes in Cleveland (now demolished), albeit on a smaller scale: And as it should be, the brewing vats are behind the pulpit! :drunk:

Favorite Music At The Moment?
I like 'Mezzanine' but I *love* 'Blue Lines' and 'Protection'.

Avon, Ohio
Thanks for the photos - the individual buildings are quite charming. When I first heard of the French Creek district - it was described as a "quaint neighborhood" with a lot of antique shops. Coming from a region that had several genuinely quaint neighborhoods (some in actual small town "downtowns") with antique shops - you can probably imagine my disappointment with Avon. Instead, Avon was more like Peninsula meets North Olmsted, and I can't say that's a compliment.

Drive-By Shootings -- Warren, New Castle and back to Cleveland - Part 1
^To get to 11 from 680, you'll want to take 711/Division St. Expressway (the somewhat new "Hubbard Connector"). You could also hop off the Salt Springs exit, follow it north to 80 which reconnects with 11 North.

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
Off-topic - I absolutely LOVE it when people trolls on cleveland.com talk smack about this forum. It simply reinforces the notion that UrbanOhio isn't a place for mudslinging cowards - diverse viewpoints, yes. But mudslinging cowards and trolls? Nope. Anyway, I think this plan sounds good in theory and I'm really intrigued to see if shoring up the Irishtown Bend hillside includes stabilizing the land for possible development.

CLEVELAND - 2008, truly the best of times, the worst of times...
SuperKid, as Jim S. said - that's the Eaton HQ. As you probably know, they'll be relocating to Chagrin Highlands. Jim, that was taken on Old River Road - those are the buildings that were eventually demolished for the Flats East Bank project.

US Economy: News & Discussion
- UO Cleveland Happy Hour discussion
It's normally quieter and not terribly crowded that early (and on a Thursday).- Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Thanks folks - I really wanted to take time out my day to get the thread back on-topic. No, really. Any discussions about alleged drug dealing and reporting crimes and guilty bystanders DON'T need to continue in this thread.- UO Cleveland Happy Hour discussion
^There's always Lava Lounge - it's right in that same vicinity, with great happy hour specials (until 8pm I believe) and usually pretty mellow on Thursdays.- Pet Peeves!
No, since I'm no mere forumer ;-)- Cleveland Hopkins International Airport

I have to agree - I've told my partner that if we ever move, spiral staircases and floating staircases are 100% dealbreakers. Spirals are just evil, and I'm convinced that a monster/axe murderer lurks under all floating staircases (and can thus grab my foot from under the staircase!)- What do the stars under user names represent?
Green is SO not your color ;-)- Pet Peeves!
"the group of nitwits who are walking toward you five-abreast" Y'know, maybe I just see the world differently - anytime I see what you've described, *this* is my take on it:  And I make no exception whether it's a group of 20-something post-frat banking d-bags, or a herd of 50-something chicken ladies. I push on through and tell them "don't mind me, I'm just ANOTHER PERSON IN THE WORLD".- Cleveland: Random Development and News
Quite a bit of progress on the Terminal Tower's northeast facade - this section hasn't been illuminated yet but I'm guessing they're waiting until they have all the scaffolding down on the opposite side:- What do the stars under user names represent?
"The more stars you have, the more awesome you are as a human being." Yes, well I suppose the mortals have to have *some* way to base their worth ;-)- Pet Peeves!
Hypersensitive/over-reactive forumers. :-)- Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Some of it, no. However, as someone who has repeatedly stated that Cleveland needs to "up its design standards", I would think you could appreciate the fact that the design of the shelters results in a failure to provide shelter! ;-) As I've said, had anyone taken a simple garden hose to a prototype - they'd have seen that they fail to keep out rain, snow, wind... unless of course said rain and snow fall perfectly perpendicular to the street. - UO Cleveland Happy Hour discussion
