  1. ^The subway sign is still there as well.
  2. First - the worst (and accompanying soundtrack): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dUNVenm6eM# Rest in Peace ... And of course, the best: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJkgKHnzbWQ# Hope you enjoyed - have a safe and happy new year! :-)
  3. Regarding the church/skyscraper combo (aka 1999 Broadway) - from denverskyscrapers.com: http://www.denverskyscrapers.com/tallbuildings_downtown_507_714.html "Perhaps one of Denver's most stunning skyscrapers, 1999 Broadway's unique design is owed to the shape of its site. During the height of Denver's energy boom, Lauder Development intended to raze the historic Holy Ghost Catholic Church to build a regular "shoebox" tower. After much public outcry from the church and the public alike, Lauder realized that the church wasn't going anywhere. The only solution? Build their new project around the church. 1999 Broadway features an exquisite glass facade on its north side which, through the use of straight walls setbacked into a faceted curve, surrounds the historic church on three sides."
  4. Bice Ristorante closes in Cleveland By JOHN BOOTH 11:06 am, December 31, 2008 As the calendar turns, so does the downtown Cleveland restaurant carousel: Bice Ristorante is out, Barley House is on the way in. Less than two years after opening, the upscale Bice closed its Tower City Center doors on Christmas Eve, according to shopping center general manager Lisa Kreiger. 6. ""They even have a glass for almost every drink. It's similar to how there's a Burgundy glass, a Champagne glass and port glass for wine. It's the same thing with cocktails. You can have different glasses to emphasize different cocktails." I'm glad to see well-earned press for the Velvet Tango Room, but what is this, 1988? Gee, I think they even have a different glass for different beers!

Music like this is usually classified as "electronic" (aka not necessarily one for the dancefloor, but with all the synth, etc. that most dance music has).

Think about it this way - the last post in this thread was two years ago, and it sank to the bottomless pit of the forum. Two *years* later, someone reads a post and goes to the trouble of registering an account, all so they can post their rant (for whatever agenda they may or may not have). This person also posted a link to *their* prison pen-pal matching site (which was immediately deleted). It's possible their complaints are completely legit - it's also possible that they're a disgruntled former employee of the management company or any other scenario. Just as you got after jpop for not buying their story, it's just as fair to get after you for scolding people for being skeptical. It's not unlike someone who shows up to a party waaay late, overhears a innocuous conversation along the lines of "gee, did you hear ____?" and then three hours later, inexplicably goes on some tirade about that earlier conversation. Of course people are going to take that as a little bit odd.
  11. Old AND slow?!? Tsk tsk. ;-)
  12. Yeah, Gasm - welcome to UrbanOhio my hell. And try to read better next time ;-)

From the chatter on skyscraperpage.com, it sounds like the shuttle from the train to Sky Harbor is being well-utilized.

I *believe* the architects are Dimit - same as 27 Coltman, and welcome to the forum!

To quote Angela Bassett from 'Waiting to Exhale': "It's not 'how come', it's 'why'". :-)

  17. ^I believe the phrase is "you can wish in one hand, and sh!t in the other - and see which fills up first." :-D
  18. Hi everyone, since Cadillac Ranch/Barroom is now open - can we please post reviews about it in the "Cleveland Restaurants" thread? http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,10097.msg355190/boardseen.html#new This thread should be reserved for the May Company building's construction-specific posts. Thanks!

"Anyone remember the "prep manual"??" It's the Preppy Handbook, you nincompoop!
  20. Pretty accurate - Burchfield spent his formative years in Salem before he moved to Buffalo (graduated valedictorian from Salem High School), and most of the rural/semi-rural areas resemble the countryside photos in this thread. Great sets of pics, KJP - brings back lots of memories for me.

No, you're just too jaded and old to appreciate how the genre has evolved. :-)
  23. My biggest beef is with the Cleveland Restoration Society - they are the de facto "preservation" group in town (and in a much better position to stop the senseless razing of every other building worth mentioning) - where are they?!?

Definitely "the best of times, the worst of times".
