  1. As much as I like the Metroparks in Cleveland, I still think I like Mill Creek Park better. Thanks for the great pics!
  2. Now who is painting who with a certain brush? ;-) I think the main issue that certain people have is that your participation on this forum is thus far, strictly limited to threads discussing Atlanta, Charlotte, etc. I personally have no problem with that (since you're contributing and not trolling or violating forum rules), but you've expressed no active interest or posted in any Ohio-specific threads. Again that's fine and dandy with me, but it does seem odd that you'd go through the trouble of setting up an account here just to keep tabs for anything relating to southern cities. Out of curiosity, are you familiar with urbanplanet.org?
  3. "I don't believe NCB "ran it into the ground" Considering that most of the execs who were at the helm during the subprime "feast" are long gone, and left those remaining to deal with the fallout - I'm not sure what else you'd call it. As has been said about so many industries, things in the banking biz are polarizing. There used to be over 30 major car manufacturers in the nation, now there are three(ish). It's not that different.
  4. "Hi, my name is MORTIFIED, nice to meet you!" Yeesh...
  5. Ahem - it's "y'inz" and "dahntahn". ;-)
  6. Great shots of a great neighborhood!

  8. NCB was run into the ground, PNC was not. If you had to dole out $7 billion, who would you give it to, based on each bank's track record? Don't get me wrong - I'm worried sick for my friends who may/will be affected but NCB (their leadership) brought this on themselves.
  9. County Commissioner Peter Lawson Jones: Obama stopped by: Former mayor Jane Campbell and hubby Hunter Morrison: Councilman Joe Cimperman: Carl Monday, looking for his next investigative reporting target: Mayor Frank Jackson: Looking east: The ribbon: The ribbon cutting: That kid cracked me up - he was shooing away pigeons during the ceremony; I think DCA should hire him! Not sure who that gal was but she was stunning! And off she goes!
  10. ^Ain't THAT the truth! Or even better, the sentiments expressed at :20 :-D
  11. And with that, we can take the National City discussion to the appropriate thread. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,478.msg336719.html#new
  12. ^Absolutely, however it wasn't PNC that brought NCC down: "National City's undoing was the mortgage meltdown. National City, simply, was caught holding the hot potato when the music stopped. Its business model a few years ago was based on relying on mortgages for half of the company's $2 billion a year in profits. As recently as 2004, one-fourth of its mortgages were high-risk, subprime loans. When Wall Street stopped trusting the mortgage market in 2007, National City was holding about $25 billion in undesirable loans that faced considerable risk of default and that National City couldn't sell.
  13. ^That would be even more catastrophic for local jobs lost - there's SO much overlap between Key and NCC. At least with PNC, the retail banking and sales will be relatively safe from being slashed.
  14. ^Actually it was the now-gone regime that ran NCC into the ground that sucks.
  15. I took his question to mean "what is the largest Ohio-based bank", not the largest bank period.
  16. ^That's the problem - I know that over the years there's been a lot of cross-pollination between Key and National City. This time around, Key's not in any position to go on any major hiring spree. :-|
  17. I'm pretty sure it's Fifth-Third.
  18. Just to clarify it's a Banana Republic plaid shirt and a vest from Nordstrom - but yes, if I'm going out to the country I'm butching it up a little.

A day without Admin'ing? Sounds like heaven! ;-)

Congratulations! And of course you're obligated to post photos of any and all projects you have a hand in! :-)

You'll want to read my reply to your post - could the leadership in Cleveland use a little more vision? Absolutely. And while he isn't beyond reproach, you don't see Frank Jackson being hauled off in handcuffs.
  22. ""Doing a project like this takes people who have a real fortitude to them. It takes the kind who really want to take a chance. The leadership in Detroit knew they needed something that would energize the town." "Love the Ferchill quote. He is one of my favorite developers - not that I am alone - and he is right, in my opinion. What do you think?" http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/03/24/kilpatrick.investigation/index.html http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,416543,00.html http://articles.latimes.com/2008/aug/08/nation/na-mayor8 http://www.kwamekilpatrick.com/aboutthemayor.html

Try a smile and a nod of acknowledgement. Not too much effort to invest on your part, and much less scary than staring someone down. "...Some of our people, on "neutral" territory, don't know how to approach. I empathize with him. He might be shy (like me) or not have good social skills. Although, he does need to up his game - if hes going to cruise stare that hard - by purchasing some dark tinted sunglasses." Try a smile and a nod of acknowledgement. Not too much effort to invest on your part, and much less scary than staring someone down. And there's less likelihood of someone pulling out their pepper spray on you! :-)

Better that than me hauling off and slugging the freak!
