Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
As I've said before - god love the people at Zaremba and all the great stuff they're doing, but I think they definitely learned their lesson on that!

Pet Peeves!
That's why I explained it :-) It's like when my friends who have food service jobs tell me their "horror stories" - I've never worked in food service, so some of the nuances are lost on me.

Pet Peeves!
It's not "supposed to be", it absolutely is - simply making people aware that you know they're in the store can be enough to make them look for easier pickings. When an associate acknowledges someone's presence, it's letting the customer (or shoplifter) know that the associate is well aware of them. For law-abiding folks, the associate is being genuinely helpful - for potential shoplifters it's "hi, yes I know you're in my store and I have my eye on you".

Youngstown-Warren: General Business & Economic News
^If it's in North Jackson near I-76 (per the article), my guess is that it will be on/near Bailey Road (which has a direct connection to I-76 which links to the Turnpike a few miles away), south of the Lordstown complex. There are a lot of distribution centers in that vicinity - and no, it's not on the former site of a mill.

Pet Peeves!
Numbskulls who spend months proofing dozens of versions of a project, making changes on inconsequential minutia - and then once the files are sent to the printer, they find a mistake (theirs) that should have been caught in the first proof. Oh and of course, they need it fixed right away because they've p!ssed away so much time on worthless revisions, they're against the wall with the printer. This is why one of my favorite mantras at work is "Lack of planning or poor time management on YOUR part NEVER constitutes an emergency on MY part.".

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Most people probably know that Flying Fig has a great happy hour (can't beat the $5 blue cheese and bacon burger, and select $3 drafts); but did you know that they have those happy hour prices on Saturday from 3 to 5? That could come in handy if you're in the area.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Just another update; just some more mud being pushed around: Do those steel beams lying on the ground mean anything? *cough*gotribe*cough* (or other knowledgeable folks): New water/sewer lines being prepped for the western section: Scroll ------>

Fun with google adsense
It's nice not being bothered with ads - then again, that's about the only perk that comes with this gig! :-P

Pet Peeves!
When sales and marketing people act like middle men twits when I need their company logo. I don't have time to explain the differences between raster and vector graphics, and I don't need to hear you blather on about "what dpi do you need?" if you already have it in Illustrator!!! :whip:

Cleveland: Wind Turbine Construction News
"He is pro wind, but said flat out that those blades kill birds." If we're talking ducks, geese, and other cute birds - then hopefully they can develop a deterrent of some sort. However, if we're talking about those rats with wings (some people use the term "pigeons"), I say - crank it UP!!!!

UrbanOhio's affiliation with McCain...I demand answers
"You "demand"? I can't wait to read MayDay's response to that!" I can only quote my partner (and I'm not sure where he got this crass saying): "You can sh!t in one hand and wish in the other and see which fills up first!" ;-) Rich will have to answer that one for you.

Ohio & National Intercity Bus Discussion
"Let me try it in a way that Mayday won't consider ignorant. Many on OU who promote public transportation do not feel that time is money. It appears their time is not important to them as they will wait extremely long times to catch trains and buses to get to their destination." No, that's still pretty ignorant but in a completely different manner. Also - "OU"?

"Jim Garlow, the pastor of the evangelical Skyline Church in San Diego County, said he expects up to 100 young adults to spend five-plus weeks on his campus, subsisting on soup, juice and the promise of societal salvation." I'm sure the poor and hungry in Pastor Garlow's area would be thrilled to know that his efforts are going toward such a noble cause. I honestly found the anchor's remarks to be a bit throw-backish and hanging on to this whole notion that outside of the coasts, the States are nothing but a bunch of cornfed, homophobic hicks. I'm sure it helps those who moved away from the area when things *were* less tolerant, but I know plenty of people in high-ranking positions who are completely open at their place of employment. Hell, every single one of my immediate co-workers (not all of them are someone you'd immediately peg as tolerant) came up to me and offered condolences when they'd heard my partner's mother passed away. Not "sorry about your loss" but "hey, got your email about your partner's mom - sorry to hear that, if you guys need anything...". I know it's anecdotal but apparently the anchor on CNN would be flabbergasted  A while back, someone relocated from Los Angeles (after having moved away from Cleveland after college) and started at my company. Word got around and they introduced themselves and said they weren't sure if my company was "okay" with things. After explaining that my company offers domestic partner benefits*, specifically lists sexual orientation in their anti-discrimination hiring clauses*, and the simple fact that I've had my partner's photo on my desk for the 3+ years we've been together, I finally said "what kind of backwater have you been lead to think this is?". And everything they said seemed like the kind of fodder that makes up Forbes lists - hearsay and horsesh!t. *things offered by most companies in Cleveland worth mentioning.- Akron urban living options website and tour
I lived in Hudson before I moved to Cleveland and spent half my weekends in Cleveland, the other half in Akron. I'm really impressed by the strides they've made - it's still a tad too small for my tastes but they've really come a long way. I would *kill* to have something like Northside Lofts on the site just north of Riverview on West 25th.- Paris: Developments and News
It's a hotel (well the shell of it) in Pyongyang, North Korea - left unfinished for about 10 years; allegedly they've restarted work on it.- A social/economic/political/philosophical debate forum?
In theory it sounds good... in reality, someone would have to be the Admin/Mod for it. So if one of the existing Admins/Mods is enough of a deranged masochist who just needs that something extra to go off the deep end interested, I suppose it could be considered.- Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District

No, the biggest point is that MTS feels some uncontrollable urge to post every single time he sees a housing unit (other than his own). We get it, it's all too small, there isn't enough closet space, and that row of cabinets should go over by the sink instead of the dishwasher, blah blah blah  That said... Thank you. :-)- Cleveland.com Comments
Oh for god's sake lighten up - if it gets out of hand, it goes in the trash.- Cleveland.com Comments
But of course, I've *never* seen a stupid pedestrian just walk out onto the street without even looking.- Cleveland: Random Development and News
All of this makes for good discussion, but if we could please direct Innerbelt-related posts to the thread that MyTwoSense mentioned, that'd be great. :-)- Considering a move back to Cleveland
Do NOT drop out unless you absolutely have to, or unless you have a lock on finishing your degree at somewhere equivalent (i.e. CIA). Absolutely do NOT even consider dropping out unless your sanity completely 100% depends upon it. I think X has a good synopsis of the area - it's probably quiet but with the Healthline station that close, you wouldn't feel *too* isolated. There are a few newer townhomes (the Montana) over that way, so it's not completely desolate. Safety-wise, I think the concern would be a lack of "eyes on the street" at certain hours more than high-crime. If you can handle the Bronx, I'm sure you'd be fine here - but with less population density, you'd still want to have your wits about you. That said, don't forget CityWheels if you need infrequent access to a car - I'm not sure how soon their downtown fleet is coming online. However, they do have two cars at Euclid and Mayfield so all you'd have to do is hop on the Healthline, pick up the car and do your errands.
