  1. ^I disagree, historically in just about every industry the end result is polarization - where the only things left are a handful of "mega" companies and the rest are much smaller, niche-oriented. Anything in the middle will be acquired or merged into non-existence. And this morning it was announced that Citigroup is buying Wachovia's assets.
  2. ^Love the Moosehead. I'm fine if people just list their favorite "discoveries" regardless of locale. Whenever I see lists like this, I make mental notes of the good places to eat in case I'm out running errands, etc. and happen to be in that area.
  3. Congrats to one of UrbanOhio's own!

Thank you answering many questions I've had about some of the abandoned buildings in Cleveland - mostly "I wonder what the view is like from up there?". Welcome to the forum!

^Might I suggest Wonder Bar for starters since they were the first to reach out to us? I know it's been a while, but maybe they'd offer a special or two?

Very good point, and that should be considered if you're hoping to meet people and chat, or if you're fine with drinking and not being able to hear.
  7. He tried it again last night - just an fyi folks - we can trace IP addresses and yes, we know what email you used to register with us. Anyway, back on topic please :-)
  8. No, he made it quite clear that he has nothing to offer but hostility and ignorance. Dismissed!
  9. Everyone, say goodbye to "Daniel Larusso". He's worn out his welcome in four posts.
  10. ^Any time a developer uses historic restoration tax credits in a project like this, they have to offer the units for rent for the first five years (I think it's five, any way...). After that, there's no longer a restriction and they're able to offer them as for-sale. Welcome to the forum, btw.
  11. Jerry, am I understanding that you would buy a farecard from one machine, and then you're required to activate it at a separate machine? If so, that gets a big ol' Family Feud "hell no!" from me:

  13. ^As an Administrator of this forum, I am able to see IP addresses so yes, I was aware of who you are when you signed up for the forum. As a fellow resident of Tremont, I fully support your idea that Tremont West should organize a volunteer group to help people like your mom with home repairs, and to help poorer homeowners improve their properties without having to take on additional debt. If you don't mind my asking, who is your mom? Feel free to use the forum's private messaging system with your reply.

Along the lines of what gotribe said, I've noticed that today's college grads are (imho) waaaaaaaay too eager to run back to academia if they don't find work that meets their sometimes unrealistic expectations. I had a graphic design grad ask me "do you think I should go back for my masters? I think that would get me something around $50K a year, right?". It took all I had not to cackle in their face - I said "most graphic design jobs pay $25K-$35K right out of school; maybe a little more in the larger markets but of course there's the higher cost of living." The expression on their face wasn't entirely unlike a kid who just found out that Santa and the Tooth Fairy don't exist.

"I don’t know how anybody would be expected to become independent and mature in an environment like that." They won't. It's part of that repugnantly stupid concept that parents should be "friends" with their kids - which is almost as repugnantly stupid as the notion of "intelligently negotiating" with a screaming toddler. I've had co-workers lament that they have little control over their kids. What do they expect when they cater to their kids' every whim because they're too worried about their kid thinking they're "cool"? When one said "well, this is the second car he totaled in a year - a 2006 Mitsubishi Spyder. I just worry that if I yell at him too much, he won't want to spend time with the family", I couldn't contain myself. I said "1. you're an absolute idiot for buying your kid a car like that, 2. considering how he drives, he may not be alive long enough to spend time with the family and 3. he's your KID, not your friend - not your bud - you have free license to discipline your kid as you see fit - that's called PARENTING!". I was ready for an earful, and the guy just shrugged and said "yeah, I guess you're right". :wtf:
  16. WOW! Nice first post - welcome to the forum!

I'm guessing they're just more vocal about their debauchery so their co-workers know they can "hang". Those of us who have been doing that for years know it's better to leave people guessing ;-)
  18. You mean couldn't otherwise offer as a corporate-owned park, a corporate-owned gym/fitness center, a corporate-owned food court. The last time I checked, those amenities exist in downtown. The corporate campus concept isn't that far off from casinos - get the people in, isolate them and hold them hostage surround them with amenities so they don't feel the need to leave, and can drone their way to higher profit margins be more productive.
  19. Fixed that for you ;-)
