  1. I have to agree - Cleveland may have the "height" crown, but Cincy has the "clustering" of towers - they may not be as tall but they're impressive.
  2. It looks like Key West Cafe in the Galleria has closed.
  3. "P.S. Who was that crazy-looking black guy following you around in some of those shots???" Crazy looking?? Nah, he's just plain nutz!!! :-D Great shots Rando and nice to finally meet you! :-)

^That would be "Miss J". "Jay" is Jay Manuel.

I'm a bit neurotic with bananas - they have to be yellow with a minimal amount of browning. Then I peel them completely, pull off the end opposite the "handle", and I absolutely have to peel the strings off. Otherwise I'd yak.
  6. My guess is that one of them is the Stanard school over by East 55th/St. Clair-ish.
  7. "you do need a car if you live downtown." Not necessarily, especially if CityWheels gets their fleet placed.

Oh, just take it easy on MTS and turn that frown upside down, snookywookyoogums! :-D

Yeah, there's absolutely NOTHING true about any of the aforementioned stereotypes
  10. I don't know - outside of certain larger markets, I don't know that ANYONE with a performing arts degree who can say that there are good-paying-jobs-aplenty. It's not exactly a huge industry as it is, and where jobs ARE available (the larger markets) the competition along with the cost of living in those markets is absolutely brutal. Let's face it, there's only so much demand for that kind of background. Sure, certain cities are more geared toward certain industries but I don't see that necessarily as a knock on Cleveland. Your personal experiences seem to have skewed your outlook (not that I blame you), but I think it's also made you less objective.
  11. "Feel free to audibly sigh at the prospect of having another newly minted college grad asking the same questions, but please follow that sigh with some insight!" No, those are questions which I hope get posted again and again and again and again by the thousands moving to Cleveland. ;-) Anyway, welcome to Cleveland and the forum - just off the top of my head, I might suggest the Osborne Building or Huron Square (about two blocks from baseball/basketball stadia), and close to the soon-to-be-open HealthLine (Bus Rapid Transit), and not too far from the Rapid Station at Tower City Center. Oh, if you don't mind my asking - what's your monthly rent budget?
  12. "Me, my husband the vast majority of my friends have degrees in arts-releated fields and there is little to no good paying work, let alone work with insurance and benefits here. As an artist in this town, you either need to sell out and take some job you hate doing something completely not related to your degree or scrape by on what jobs you can get, doing without insurance, going without car repairs when needed, still living like a college student with roomates and ramen noodles when past 40." I don't know if I "live fabulously", but in all honesty, I've had the complete opposite experience. I've been working as a graphic designer since 1996 - I began as a designer for a weekly newspaper group making $7.50 an hour plus benefits, and with the exception of September-December of 2001, I've *never* been out of a full-time job and I'm now at an Art Director level with decent pay (for the industry). In addition to that, my freelancing opportunities have pretty much exploded over the past year - to the point where if one more project comes my way, I may have to decline. I will say though - I've noticed a lot of people in my industry, particularly younger types who complain about wanting to break into the industry but "only if I get to work on really cool and creative stuff". Some might call it selling out, I call it paying your dues and proving your mettle so the next job you get allows you more creativity. You don't just plop down at your first job and not have to do grunt work. It's no easier anywhere else because in larger/trendier markets, you're competing with the trustfund kids who only want the job so they keep getting their check from the folks. Mind you, my arts-related industry is much more conducive to working in the mainstream business world. For people trying to land a great-paying gig in fine/performing arts, I imagine things aren't quite as easy.
  13. "I've always wondered, what legal rights that they currently don't possess, do gay couples expect to get from gay marriage being allowed?" As things stand, if god forbid something ever happened to my partner - I could be denied access to visit him in the hospital. He could be dying, and because I'm not considered a spouse or "family", I could be barred from visiting him. As shs96 mentioned, not all workplaces offer domestic partner benefits/medical benefits, etc. My workplace does, my partner's does not - so if I were to lose coverage, I wouldn't be able to go on his policy. Depending on how long my partner and I are together, we'll likely develop a sizable amount of shared assets. This is where survivor benefits play in, as well as the fact that I'd have to pay an estate tax on whatever is left to me. Heterosexual widows/widowers do NOT have to pay said tax. Those are just a few of the ways bigots "protect" marriage ways my rights are deprived.
  14. When I think of buildings/styles that might complement and draw inspiration from the bridges of the Flats, this is what comes to mind: 100 East Pratt Street in Baltimore (photo from beyonddc.com): HSBC Building in Hong Kong (photo from www.e-architect.co.uk):

I just want a nice gate and fortress-like walls around our place in Tremont. Nothing too over-the-top, just something like this to give it that "cozy compound" feeling:
  17. It's okay - he probably deals with enough self-important blowhards just by visiting this forum!
  18. Hey Context Nazi, read first, THEN post.
  19. "As for Yours Truly on Shaker Square -- I like the decor!" Ohhh how did I miss this - KJP, no. Just NO.
  20. $4.98 Kenneth Cole pants - and no, I wasn't.

Oh nevermind hetero women who are on the prowl - the best is when you go to a mostly lesbian party and they want to umm, borrow your umm... well, they think you'd be good material for their attempts at breeding!!!
  22. I totally agree - and that would help the local design community by giving them some high-profile work! ;-)

"I dash upstairs, put some Vaseline on my face and braid my hair (just kidding)" Don't forget to take out your earrings and call Ne'Ne' and LaQuon cuz "these b!tches are on some OTHER sh!t!!!" (for the caucasians who don't get it, either date outside your race or watch "White Girls" a few times) "I get stung by a bee while going thru someone’s trash" Yeah - I'm sorry but while I - a lowly mid-career art director at a B2B trade magazine, can appreciate a good find at say... thrift shops, etc., even I will not go treelawn shopping or dumpster diving. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're some upper-ish exec at Time-Warner and your pay enables you to have dual citizenship in NYC and Shaker Square? Honey - that's why you have assistants and minions - let THEM do the dirty work. I mean it's cute to WANT to do that yourself, but really now...
  24. Me or the homeless guy?!? HE was the one who threw out the "N" word*!!! :? *He did use the pronunciation that rhymes with Tigga, for what it's worth.
