Today, I Overheard Someone in my City Say...
Funny, I spend a lot of time on Euclid, and I've never heard a catcall....I have caught them ogling, but that's about it. Oh believe me, I've NEVER once heard a catcall on Euclid from any construction workers - no matter how well I've put an outfit together. Now having a homeless guy* call me (I quote) "hey, sexy-@ssed n*****..." is an entirely different story. *Obviously the homeless guy knows quality when he sees it! :-D

What field are you in?
"I don't know why ... you never have seen me ... or have you ... on a billboard perhaps???" I've seen you - you're alright, but you're not THAT hot. :-D

Columbusites spend a day in Cleveland
"Internet lingo on a trashcan Downtown? Well, I like it." Actually the initials of Mark E. Howard, artist who designed a lot of the elements of the streetscape along Euclid. Great set of pics! :-)

Going to Cleveland this weekend, HELP!!!
^Same here... Yes, I'm glad suburbanites (well, ex-urbanites since people in the closer 'burbs tend to support the city a little more) visit the city proper and spend their money, but there are just certain mannerisms that make me chuckle. Then of course, there are the questions/comments that peabody99 alluded to. Perfect example is when my partner and I grab lunch at the Southside (in Tremont) on the weekends - usually when a city (or city-minded) gal always seems to have a baby/bridal shower or some other event. That's all well and good and I'm glad they're steering the business into the city. However, the way 98% of their guests walk in and *glare* at their surroundings is hilarious. I'm reminded of those jittery gazelle on the Animal Planet shows - when they sense a pack of lions ready to pounce. I can see a bit of culture shock/deer-in-headlights-look if they were going into say... Pats in the Flats, but the Southside? Then there was the time someone (group of four ladies - 30ish/40ish from Bainbridge - I knew because you couldn't help but overhear them) asked for directions to the Eye Candy Gallery, we told them they could walk on Fairfield 2 blocks east and it's right there - their response: "oh, I don't know about walking!?!? Is it safe?!?!?" - this was about 1:30pm on a nice sunny day, with strollers, joggers, dogwalkers out in droves

Advice for my 14 year old nephew
How about "No, you effing DON'T play video games." I'm going to make such a great dad when my kids are teenagers. I love it when people tell me I'd be a good parent - you can only imagine my reaction if I had a kid who said "I'm gonna play video games all day..."

"Also, I talked to him and he was pretty insistent that he wants a paying job this summer. That, or he plays video games all day." Typical.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
It's not so much the incline, but the conditions of the soil underneath - Cleveland has mostly glacial shale (awful for building) below street level, Pittsburgh has a mix of igneous rock, coal and shale. And yep, sir2gees makes a pretty accurate assessment.

You beat me to the punch with the Luminocity suggestion - the technology exists to refract light and whatever would be projected wouldn't appear distorted. The possibilities for that would be amazing and endless.

"How about a big UrbanOhio logo on the building, maybe with a picture of MayDay or Maleficient (or both)." I *absolutely* approve!!!!!

"Having walked through Tremont last weekend, there isn't much in the way of vacant lots or un-rehabbed homes remaining;" North of I-490, perhaps - people forget that Tremont extends south of I-490 and west of I-90/I-71. There are plenty of places that could use some sprucing up, and I can assure everyone that not all of Tremont is gentrified to the point of being unaffordable.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Yeah, having what is now the 2nd tallest building (by a few feet) between NYC and Chicago isn't super-tall. Thanks for the pointless cleveland.com-style criticism. As I have said before - a supertall is 1,000 feet or more. Cleveland does not have any supertall buildings. It may seem like splitting hairs but it's true - unless we're talking 1,000 feet or taller, the term "supertall" doesn't apply.

^Absolutely and Pittsburgh's bridges are wonderful in their own right. Do they have any lift bridges or swing bridges?

I agree. I'd say a month is good enough. Folks, if you can't make an argument without insulting people - find another forum. "am i on urbanohio.com ? i think we should rename this site ohioapologists.com" If it's so bad - take your month off and find somewhere else to go.

That site (not just good - great!) was run by a UrbanOhio forumer and a friend, Paul_In_Cleveland. I don't want to speak on his behalf, but I do know that family commitments made it difficult for him to maintain the site.

It will be - Elizabeth (owner of Grady's) knows her stuff. :-) And I agree with urb-a-saurus, the area around River's "old downtown" is very walkable and has a great neighborhood feel to it. It's no Ohio City but it's no Brunstucky either.

"What other rendering exists to critique? I see no problem with someone writing a review of the rendering that was released." That was the point - the review was appropriate for a constructed/finished building, but a bit heavyhanded for just one (not terribly detailed) initial rendering. And you're correct - the closest Cleveland has to a super-tall is Key Tower, but unless a building is 1,000 feet - it's not a supertall. "Terminal Tower for about 50 or so years was the tallest building btw NYC and Chicago." It was the tallest in the world outside of NYC from 1930 until 1953 - when the main building was constructed at Moscow State University. It was the tallest in the States until 1967 when the Prudential Center was built in Boston.

Ohio LGBTQ+ News
"So stop the attacks on me because I support a ban on gay marriage." Develop an idea of how a ban on gay marriage affects people in their daily lives - then people might treat you with respect. When you're stripped of your rights by people whose reasoning is "my god says so", it's not easy to pretend that everything is oh so nice. So sorry if your feelings are hurt - I'm just a little pissed that if something happens to my partner, I don't have the same hospital visitation rights married couples have. I mean, it's okay with YTown and his three self-loathing friends if my partner and I shack up, but apparently his "moral" beliefs don't extend any further than that.
