Cleveland: TV / Film Industry News
Welcome to the forum - this sounds great, but I think one thread will be sufficient. We can make a cross-referencing post in the "Cleveland Film/TV" thread for you. :-)

CLEVELAND - Remembering Robert Gaede
Our forum would be remiss if we didn't make mention of this: Remembering Robert Gaede Posted by Steven Litt/Plain Dealer Architecture Critic April 18, 2008 16:25PM Cleveland architect Bob Gaede evokes three words for those who knew him well: "preservationist," "gentleman" and "courtly." In a career spanning six decades, Gaede built a small but influential architectural practice that had a big impact on Northeast Ohio. CLEVELAND - Shame Shame I know your name!
"I wonder if they are worried about a lawsuit. Maybe someone getting injured if they slip or having to pay for maintance/upkeep of the park in winter?" I should hope that one day our society will stop using the lowest forms of human emotion (i.e. fear) as a starting point for designing our built environment.

New York City: Developments and News
I think certain elements are very appealing (the exposed corners/staircases for starters), but calling it "off white" is being a bit generous. The initial renderings called for the ceramic rods/screens to be white, but they were value-engineered and on overcast days, well... let's just say that good weather is this building's best friend:

Exactly - when it's open, it helps break up the library block for pedestrian traffic.

If that's the case, that's just stupid and inexcusable.

Okay, I know some of you may be thinking - what?!? Have I gone mad!?! The Cleveland Public Library?!? They're beyond reproach, right? They're "the Peoples' University"! They're one of the best ranked in the nation, right? Fair enough. I voted in favor of their recent levy and will likely vote in favor of every levy they request until the day my beloved liver kicks out. They are one of the gems of northeast Ohio and I absolutely support and use the services they offer. HOWEVER... I would LOVE to know what horsesh!t methodology is used to decide when the Eastman Reading Garden opens for the season. It's April 21st, and it was about 68-70 degrees today with plenty of sunshine. I repeat - April 21st, and it was about 68-70 degrees today with plenty of sunshine. Sounds like the perfect kind of day to grab lunch, and enjoy the reading garden, right? After all, the library has a huge vinyl banner plastered on the fence of the garden saying "Thank you for supporting us/Issue 2". Well, if they want people to continue supporting them - don't you think it might be a good idea to let people enjoy the things that our tax dollars pay for??? This poor gal was (like me) thinking today would be a great day to enjoy the Reading Garden: They depend on new members and donations right? Well, why would someone (i.e. ME) want to become a member and give them extra support via donations? Now to be fair, I called the main library and hoped to ask someone (politely) about the reading garden. After five minutes of ringing, I gave up. Apparently the levy didn't raise enough funds to have a human answer the phone.

I understand what they're saying, MayDay. I've heard many, many complaints about the management they've chosen for their various properties, either downtown or in the suburbs. That was my biggest concern about K&D being the only bidder for the Ameritrust Center -- that they wouldn't be able to effectively manage it. That I understand but I know that sometimes conversations will start going the way of "they didn't replace the carpet" followed up with "did you write a letter?!?" followed with... you get the idea.

Living in Downtown Cleveland
"That hour-plus she spent in the car each way was wasted time and opportunity. Instead of slogging down I-77, she could be meeting friends for drinks, networking at a work-related event, or working out at the gym." That is *exactly* what prompted me to move from Hudson to Cleveland proper. My god, you'd think people who spend that much time driving would actually do it WELL. Needless to say, the slashed commute time also slashed my stress levels.

And this Reserve Square discussion is related to the Cleveland Trust site how?!? (Other than K&D)
