"I like the idea of a 24 hour diner, but the over night staff has to be sassy! You know...like.....um, MayDay." Kiss my grits! ;-)

Cleveland: Tyler Village
"ANd really, who would rather work in an office park than a refurbished warehouse with Lake and Downtown amenities and views? Just makes for a better work place." Believe me, they're out there - and they're scary.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Thinking of discussing anything other than the Cleveland Convention Center or Medical Mart?

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I think people need to actually see the site - failing that, go to Google maps, select West 10th and Front Avenue and walk along the path on West 10th near the Waterfront Line. That'll give you a better sense of how walled-off this area is. It's not just the Waterfront Line either, there's a working rail line along the southern border of the site. So take a site that's 75% encircled by concrete walls (the red line) that range anywhere from four to fifteen (twenty?) feet high, and then put a fully functioning railroad at street level (the blue line). Thus, the solution looks to be pedestrian bridges (the green lines) for now. If anyone has a better idea, as always I welcome your designs!

Cleveland vs. Chicago - my comparison
It's absolutely worth mentioning. Cleveland had an shady Napoleon authoritarian mayor in Mike White - the general public saw things getting built, but they didn't see that he left City Hall an absolute mess and it's a mess that's still being cleaned up. But hey, we gots some stadiums!!!

Cleveland: Retail News
Alright folks, here's how it is: Columbus is well-known for being a test market for various retail brands. Cleveland has been the first Ohio market to land several upscale stores. MyTwoSense doesn't visit the forum for a week or two and then decides to use this thread to act out on whatever p!ssyness he's dealing with. Guess which of those I'm going to allow further discussion of! Anyone who has a problem with it, send me a PM!

Innovative idea for emply storefronts
I think the best approach would be to save them for local events - as in, an empty storefront in downtown Cleveland pointing out events a few blocks away in whatever "entertainment" district. I think people feel bombarded by advertising when it's just stale corporate crap - but if they would see something that's pertinent to a current event, that makes a lot of difference.

Cleveland vs. Chicago - my comparison
That's why I love the City Xpressionz festival - it puts the Open Air/Market Square vendors out on West 25th and basically the whole area from Jay to Lorain is hopping.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
^Um, why?!? Seriously, when I grab lunch at Southside (similar vibe to Beer Engine), I almost always see parents with young ones in tow. Granted, they usually sit out in the patio area but still.

Shuttered steel mills, maybe not - but something inspired by views like this might work:

Louisville, KY: Museum Plaza
Considering most cities on there have dozens of developments going on, I think it's better to keep the City Compilations section, and for "signature" developments to get their own threads.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
"But here in reality it is a crapbox smashed into the side of Tower City, propped up from the river on stilts with imaginary roads that haven't been designed flying through the air to create loading dock access." Absolutely - unless they know something we and most people with an modicum of understanding of siting a convention center don't. If the architects/planners can actually make the TC site work aesthetically, I will happily stand corrected. I'm sure they can make it function, but if it's going to look good... well, I'd like to see how. It's not just access to A loading dock, it's access and an appropriate marshalling yard (aka where trucks sit and wait to load/unload) for least 20 loading docks - 20 being an approximate industry average that they're hoping to meet.

Did I miss something over the weekend? No, just CTownsFinest once again glossing things over and omitting the facts.

Moving to Cleveland - need help
Like the pope said - if you want FREE and AMPLE parking, live in a Wal-Mart parking lot. If you want to have a car AND live in an urban environment, be ready to cough up some change. Try living in NYC or Chicago with a car - in some of the prime areas, you'll pay as much as some peoples' annual salary just to park your car. Free parking - in the downtown of ANY city worth mentioning? Doesn't exist, my friend.
