  1. I think the semantics are important - there are high-end condos, and then there are high end "hotel-condos", where residents are able to use the hotel's services (housekeeping, amenities, etc.) when they're in the unit. Then, when they're away or traveling, they allow their unit to be used by the hotel for clients (no idea how owners are reimbursed, or if the sale price is lowered as a result). It's not my cup of tea, but for people who use the "hotel condo" as a second or third home, it frees them from maintenance but gets more mileage out of their investment. You only really see these arrangements in upscale residences and hotel brands.
  2. Not a huge local demand, but I'd say there's some. Condo/hotel arrangements usually work best for people who do a lot of traveling or as a second (or third) home. Other cities comparable to Cleveland's market have them. What will make this housing stand out compared to other spots? Compared to Pinnacle - the FEB housing won't be RIGHT on top of the main club district. It'll also have RTA rail service practically at the front door instead of a two-block walk. Compared to Stonebridge, it will have better lake views and a location more walkable to the CBD. Being the newest kid on the block has a lot of appeal for empty-nesters. They usually don't want to deal with maintenance whereas the younger crowds are a little more forgiving.

Just to clarify, I didn't pay for my iPod. About a year ago, I was asking a friend for some input on MP3 players and he said "would you want my iPod Mini? I just ordered the new model yesterday and my old one will probably just collect dust so if you want it...". :-) I don't think that adds to my iPod street cred, though :|
  5. Thank you Thomas, that was very informative. To the dissenters, I present you with your very own: "BIG FAT I TOLD YOU SO!!!"
  6. Sorry, but all I'm hearing is "waaah f#cking waaah!!!". Just like any other program like this involving tax dollars, a case has to be made for each individual project, each projected expense down to the penny has to be accounted for, and thus - every application needs to be filled out properly with every i dotted and every t crossed. Those "pencil pushers" help prevent your tax dollars from going to un-itemized "extras" listed as "Miscellaneous". If you could actually see some of the sh!t people try to pull when using taxpayer funds at every level (i.e. a non-profit seeking "$100K for "Miscellaneous Expenses" for a street festival after everything was accounted for), you'd understand why the standards of programs like this HAVE to be so stringent. There's no doling out money to people who can't make their case just "to be fair".
  7. Soooo, people voted for Rando because he LEFT the state? Nice, folks, reallllly nice!
  8. Honey, they need to pay me for: 1. The free ad. 2. The free ad via my avatar. 3. The new converts I've introduced to GLBC (specifically Burning River and Christmas Ale) 4. The multitudes of people I've brought into GLBC at forum meets. 5. The eventual liver transplant surgery I'll need (thank God it's made of Irish-German cast iron but still...) 6. The eventual spine surgery I'll need from toting a recycling cart full of Burning River bottles to the curb every Friday. 7. When technology advances enough and I become part cyborg, this is what I'll end up seeing St. Patrick's Day, 2048:

  11. It's simply unbecoming for a nominee to vote. :-) Mind you I would never expect the unwashed masses other nominees to abide by my standards ;-)
  12. I didn't vote, period!
  13. According to the info on Howard Hanna's site, Starkweather Place will have at least six units. Not sure if it's the first phase or if that's it.
  14. In theory that sounds great - not sure how easy it would be to implement. And I must have accidentally hit the "lock thread" button - sorry, it's just so easy to do that when you're the H.B.I.C., not that I'd expect any of you foolish mortals, errr... civilians err... wonderful people to understand ;-)
  15. I don't know what you're talking about. That's exactly what I saw :-D :drunk: (Just kidding, yes that's a Photoshop trick - I just selected the area of Burning River Pale Ale, inverted the selection and hit "Desaturate". Voila!)
  16. Congratulations from the H.B.I.C. :-D
  17. I'm guessing Frank is somewhere after the unnecessary preposition.
  18. ^Makes sense, since those would be the foothills of the Appalachians.
  19. "It's such a quaint little city" Quaint? Yes. Little? Definitely. City? Ummm... Nice photos of a place a bit too remote and small for my taste. :-)
  20. Alright folks - how does Wednesday, April 2nd sound?

Civil war would happen before the water of the Great Lakes is allowed to be sold en masse to places like Vegas.
  23. Surroundings - I've picked up a few things there, mostly accessories. Haven't been there in a while, though.

I think if you're going to live in the Cleveland area, definitely do as much homework as you can - do some practice runs, check out the Akron Metro schedule, etc. When you get here - PAY ATTENTION to weather reports so you can plan accordingly. I know some co-workers who live north of Akron and usually drive but will use Akron Metro in inclement weather. I live in Tremont which as mentioned - has easy access to both I-490 and 176 (aka the Jennings Freeway) both will link you to I-77. With 176 you just have a brief stint on I-480 but then you're back on I-77. In any case you'll be "reverse commuting" and Cleveland traffic is never as bad as Atlanta, barring unusually nasty weather. When I go to Akron, I prefer to take I-77 to the Turnpike (I-80) to Route 8 South. Taking I-77 requires you to basically make a loop around greater Akron - Route 8 enters Akron proper from the north and has several "direct" exits into downtown. Most people avoid the Turnpike because they hate paying 50¢ (the fare between I-77 and Rt. 8 ) but I love it because traffic's almost always lighter.
