Akron: Random Development and News
Just what's needed in Northeast Ohio!!! New retail complex proposed Plans unveiled for shopping complex in Twinsburg that could mean about 1,200 jobs By Connie Bloom and Betty Lin-Fisher Beacon Journal staff writers Published on Wednesday, Mar 19, 2008 A proposed retail shopping complex will be the first of its kind in the country, a development group said Tuesday evening, when it unveiled plans for the $100 million Twinsburg Fashion Place to a roomful of public officials at Twinsburg Township Hall. Summit County Council members and Twinsburg trustees seemed enthusiastic about the prospects of the proposal that could mean up to 1,200 jobs. The development would straddle land in Twinsburg and Twinsburg Township and could open as early as 2010. More at ohio.com http://www.ohio.com

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Welcome to the forum ;-) Thanks for the input - we've had a lot of people express their opinions based on an "urban planner" standpoint, and there's nothing wrong with that. But the fact is, the success of the CC in its own right rests on its appeal to the convention/trade show set - the people actually utilizing it on a regular basis. The "urban planner" side of me wants to see the existing site used (mainly so the existing building doesn't go to waste); however, my experience with tradeshows thinks Tower City would be more appealing/functional than the existing site.

Downtown Cleveland in the early 80's
I hear so many people say that but how many of those places would actually be patronized by the "grit fanatics". I can appreciate a nice urban patina and healthy foot traffic, but I doubt I'll be stopping to have my shoes dyed, or check out the selection of "wigs, falls, and cascades", or shopping at Sissers for some "fine" jewelry. Whatever the case, EXCELLENT first post and welcome to the forum, BarneyBoy!

I would think so, and I certainly HOPE so, I don't think that's ever been confirmed. :?

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
"The assumption seems to be that the CC will necessarily be a big ugly box that we need to hide somewhere (like, underground). Why so? The Gund Arena could have been a big ugly box - but it's not; it looks nice and it's a Cleveland landmark. A CC with a modern design on a sloped location would certainly contribute more to the skyline than a hole underground." Have you SEEN the renderings for the TC CC design? Hid.E.ous. I'm not saying they couldn't design something more appropriate but the current renderings are pretty awful - I would LOVE to see something better so I can change my tune.

Cincinnati: West Chester - Ikea Coming to Union Centre
"OK fair enough. They'll drive here for IKEA and we'll drive there for H&M." That's so odd that Cincy doesn't have H&M yet - not that H&M is such a omg-amazing store, but I think they'd do well in Cincy.

CLEVELAND - St. Patrick's Day Parade 2008
Heading on over to the parade: The po-po making sure people are safe for the show show: Gentlemen, this is why you hear my people say "don't wear saggy jeans": Bar One's holding pen patio was filled to capacity: Obligatory: RIP Metzenbaum: Wait for it, wait for it... I thought I'd grabbed a good spot near Soldiers and Sailors Monument - it wasn't as good as this guy's! It's a ZEPPELIN!!! Okay, parade people: Memo to Mayor Jackson, when in a parade please don't surround yourself with tall people: City Council president Sweeney... hopefully not making inappropriate comments to any of the lasses! The bagpipe troupe of the CPD: The mounted police - where's my favorite gal from years past? http://www.clevelandskyscrapers.com/stpats/stpats25.jpg The evolution of soldier? Folks taking advantage of the balconies at the Embassy Suites: The girls... and boys... are dancing on the floor: Obligatory rocket ship car: One of those Cleveland things I didn't grow up with - as soon as people saw this guy, they started yelling whatever "Ghoul" gibberish seemed appropriate (something about "get him chicken soup!") :wtf: Warrensville's band: And it's STILL going: Irish Setter club: Read the signs: As much as I adore feather boas, I just can't fathom buying one off a cart vendor - I mean, suppose someone yakked in their proximity? Still going up, and next year the residents will be in stumbling (or crawling) distance: Murphy and his nice human (forgot her name) signing off:

Cincinnati: Northside in March
Quite a contrast to the established gayborhoods of Columbus and Cleveland but as Rob said, there's so much character there. It reminds me in some ways of the western portions of Cleveland's Ohio City neighborhood - equally full of potential and in need of a little polish. Great photos! :-)

Cleveland: National City Bank News & Info
OUCH! National City shares trade sharply lower Posted by Teresa Dixon Murray March 17, 2008 10:31AM Categories: Banks, Breaking News Fear of more problems in the banking industry pushed shares of National City Corp. today to their lowest level since 1991. The Cleveland-based bank had lost 44 percent of its market value by 2:30 p.m., with shares trading around $7.30. Cleveland: National City Bank News & Info
"Charter One not too long ago and now potentially National City? That "giant sucking sound" on the North Coast is getting louder! Can we not compete?" Charter One was acquired by RBS/Citizens because they were doing well and wanted a sale. National City is floundering and wants a bail-out.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
"I don't see the Mall as more "central" than Tower City, but less, esp in terms of Public Square, the traffic and transit hub." What I meant by centralized is that the available land at the Mall site is less "stretched out" than at Tower City. I wasn't referring to its location downtown or proximity to transit, etc., more the "shape" of the site if that makes sense. I'm just saying that if the CC were to be built at TC, they'll want to invest in those golf-cart trams they have at the airport in case someone needs to go from the furthest point west to the furthest point east. "MayDay’s red-area map didn’t note is the potential expansion over the railroad/RTA tracks" Correct me if I'm wrong, but federal law prevents that from happening.

^I don't believe so - they occupy a substantial amount of space in the Landmark Office Towers but not *all* of it. And if you're thinking of relocating their research facilities into the Landmark building - not a chance.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
person, that's not necessarily true - here are two screencaps for comparison: Note the separate smaller red sites - those could be locations for hotels and are controlled by Forest City and could be connected via underground walkways, etc. I'm not saying a convention center would wrap around all the way to the Time-Warner "wedding tent", but that's all land controlled by Forest City. If they wanted to, they could be granted a variance of some kind to utilize Canal Road or build over it: With the current site, it's much more centralized but it would also require more work underground with less 'enclosed' connectivity than Tower City. Personally I prefer the current site because until I see renderings, I'm not convinced that the Tower City site could work aesthetically. Sure, they could plunk a structure down there but with something this mammoth and as inherently "un-urban" as convention centers are - the more you can conceal, the better, imho. I'm intrigued to see a detailed version of what they'd try to do at Tower City - maybe I'd change my tune.

"At times it makes me really jealous of your partner." Wait a minute, you've *observed* my antics on the forum - and you're *jealous* of my partner? I mean, the ever-suffering poor guy he had no idea of my psychotic outbursts, beer-fueled tirades, hissy fits, and general sociopathic tendencies "quirky personality". You on the other hand must be a glutton for punishment! ;-) And yes, he's been told the "Baldwin brother" before, I personally think it's more James Marsden meets Patrick Dempsey.
