"There is very little attraction for small business, which is where our economic growth is coming from, to locate in the city." You need to chat with weepingwillow in the "Tyler Village" thread in Projects and Construction.
  2. Not feeling it StrapHanger, but to each his own :-)
  3. Gratuitous extra photos: Pre-Renovation: Post-Renovation:
  4. Nominal - maybe two or three at most. Mind you it only takes us 10 minutes so it's not a serious headache or anything.
  5. I carpool with my partner on St. Clair (coming up from the Flats) and there's been what I'd call a mild increase of congestion but not too bad. The worst part is St. Clair between West 3rd and West 6th.

"Some people like sprawl" Some people like unsustainable lifestyles and living patterns. Some people like using resources to develop outlying land at the expense of the already built infrastructure that as we've seen, has been neglected thanks to decades of auto-centric suburban sprawl. Let's see, a new interchange on I-90 so people in Avon can shave five minutes off their commute, or money that could go into maintaining and/or improving existing highway infrastructure closer to the city. If you want this region to stagnate and/or decay even further, go right ahead and encourage the auto-centric growth patterns that places like Macedonia have adopted in a region with little to no population growth. Go right ahead and encourage this region to spread itself EVEN more thin - I mean, if that's what people "like", who are we to suggest otherwise?
  7. Oh no, it absolutely has to be at my desk - there's something about nursing my morning coffee while easing into the day. Back on topic (now that the McD swill caffeine has kicked in), they're saying that the show will go on for the St. Pat's parade so at least that's not affected.

rockandroller, I've flown a few times in not-so-good weather and if you have to fly out of any airport in a blizzard, be glad it's Hopkins - they at least have the equipment to clear the runways. Not saying it's the ideal situation but if not - the Max and Erma's always has Great Lakes on tap. Like when we went to the Bahamas in December - nothing like a nice couple of pre-flight Christmas Ales! :-D
  9. 1. If I was ALLOWED to have a coffeemaker at my desk, I would. Facilities won't let us. 2. I'm actually not a Starbucks snob (believe me, the folks at Key and BP usually know my drink) - it's not as good as City Roast, but it's still much better than McSwill. :-)
  10. For anyone concerned about water quality, call 216/664-4279.
  11. I believe it's going to be painted white.
  12. Oh trust me - the Health Department is getting a call - when my public servants f#ck up my morning coffee... something's gonna splatter when it hits the fan!
  13. The Jakarta project is absurd - bad Dubai design absurd. Brooklyn project is meh. Chicago's Aqua? Love it - here are some photos from the construction progess thread at skyscraperpage.com: Taken by SolarWind at SSP: Taken by wrabbit at SSP: From the architects' site:
  14. Believe me, if there was another decent coffee place in the immediate (1 block) vicinity, I'd be there yesterday. Instead, as willyboy stated - I've gone from profanity-laced tirades and berserk rage to curling up in fetal position, rocking back and forth... swill swill swill kill swill kill swill  :x  :x

I like being able to physically leave the house once in a while :drunk:
  16. Okay, now I am P!SSED. By all that I hold holy, there will be HELL to pay for this... The people at Stone Oven (in the Galleria) who serve City Roast - the finest locally roasted coffee - have a sign up saying "Due to Issues related to the water main break, the Health Department has asked that we not served any water-based drinks for 72 hours." The gal behind the counter said that not only that - they may not be able to serve coffee thru next week. The only option was McDonald's because they use filtered water. McD's also keep their coffee stirrers, sugar, and everything else behind the counter (what kind of animals are they used to dealing with if they have to do that?!?). They also didn't know what I meant when I asked for SKIM MILK *or* FAT-FREE. So here I sit at my desk, drinking this vile crap in a cup - and I swear it's congealing in my stomach. I'm not high-maintenance with everything, but by god, my morning coffee can make or break my day. Keep in mind, my office building coffee swill machines are going full-speed - there's no "boil alert" anywhere. What the flying F#CK!!??!?!?!??!? I'm supposed to drink McSwill for a week?!?!!?? K is for kill, D is for death, D is for DESTROY!!!!

No, we don't have a need to have that much pesonal information. Well - the forum doesn't have a need...

Not. There is absolutely nothing there for non-wealthy heterosexual males over the age of 22." And in this corner, keeping the throwback blue-collar yokel label appropriate for some Clevelanders...
  19. I should clarify - when I said "if they wanted to *really* expand" - I was referring to getting larger crowds to attend (aka their only goal was to get more people in); in no way was I suggesting they don't want to grow the festival. MorningTheft basically said it - if they want bigger attendance, a few more recognizable names could be featured, but given how well they're doing already (and the risk of watering down their product just to fill more seats), I don't think it's necessary. And yes, I will see quite a few films - and hopefully the only icicles involved will be outside on the buildings! For the record, there's only been one film at the festival that was snooze-inducing (it was really an atrocious self-indulgent POS) in all the years I've attended - and that's a better track record than the cineplex stuff I've seen :-)
  20. ^Queit? Too many to use spellcheck? "Watching icicles drip off a building in a black and white movie from Norway just isn't most Clevelander's type of thing." Hey now - a few of those there's a reason no one heard of them obscure trustfunded dipsh!ts fresh out of film school directors often put out freakshow trainwrecks films that make me want those three painfully dull hours of my life back inspire us to take up speedballing and meth expand our horizons and tell that friend of a friend who insisted this was "brilliant" to shove it up their @ss change our perspective on the world. ;-) Seriously though, I can appreciate a good "art film" just as much as a blockbuster at the cineplex (well, the artsy flicks need to be in moderation) but they seem to be doing well with their artsy-leaning lineup. Now if they wanted to *really* expand the festival - they'd probably do better with a few more mainstream flicks/directors, etc.
  21. Write a letter. Read a history of the festival's growth: http://www.clevelandfilm.org/ciff_about_history.php Read about some statistics: http://www.clevelandfilm.org/ciff_about_statistics.php And for being so irate, how many films have you seen at the festival?
  22. Well it was only 30ish when I took those photos and I imagine he was out longer than I was. Not only that - I don't blame him for wearing a hat when it's chilly!
  23. True, but the pope isn't suited for other roles I fulfill, i.e. being a PITA to my partner, etc. ;-)
  24. Did you see the part about one of the concrete slabs resting on a gas line? Yeah, I'm all for getting a good photo but I have a party to go to tonight.
  25. StrapHanger, no one was injured. Some pics: From the atrium at 200 Public Square: From the Soldiers and Sailors Monument: Jack Marschall from Channel 5:
