  1. No, it's not at all about any dig - it's that she comes off as yet one more "marketing specialist" who rehashes the same spin on "make your city seem unique; just like every other place!". I would say that if she were talking about Cleveland, Youngstown, wherever.
  2. I'd say Fat Cats in Tremont: http://www.coolplacestoeat.com/fatcats.html or The South Side in Tremont: http://www.southsidecleveland.com
  3. Another lunch meeting which no doubt sucked compared to the fabulousness that permeates all UO events! :-D

I'm just posting this for informational purposes, this in no way represents an endorsement (or non-endorsement) of either Clinton or Obama. Mayor Frank Jackson sent a letter to both, outlining his desires and wants for the city of Cleveland - and that his endorsement depended on each candidate's response. This is a PDF of the response from Clinton: http://www.clevelandskyscrapers.com/clintonletter.pdf

I figured it was something along those lines - hopefully you get back in touch with your friend. Also, I might suggest not typing in all caps, that tends to rub people the wrong way. Regardless, good luck with your search :-)
  6. "I think what he was saying is that this is the thread for Flats East Bank, so turning the discussion into whether or not Dutch architects can build nice urban neighborhoods is a topic that belongs in a Dutch architects thread. It started off as a slight tangent, but quickly tengentized, as tangents so often do." Thanks jam, that's exactly what I meant. And thanks for the chuckle, math.
  7. Just got back from the first official UrbanOhio Cleveland lunch - quite a nice turnout at Octane Cafe. It was nice to meet some new people as well as see some of the usual folks :-) rockandroller redbrick the pope KJP FrqntFlyr MurrayHill McCleveland cle2032 We're thinking of a few places to have our next lunch - the first is Crop Bistro on West 6th: http://www.cropbistro.com/ For a look at their lunch menu, go to http://www.cropbistro.com/bumperCrop.html. Any suggestions are welcome - we'd like to keep it between the Warehouse District and Playhouse Square (and points in between).
  8. Aww, sorry to hear that - hope the little one recuperates :-)
  9. I've seen her every now and then, but it's been awhile. Needless to say, I don't think she'll be wielding a pugil stick! :-o
  10. Discussing architectural aesthetics and theory and how it directly relates to FEB is one thing. This thread was degenerating into some sort of nebulous circlejerk amongst the resident armchair critics. But thanks for your input.
  11. Oh for f#ck's sake, people!

I notice an accent in Cincinnati - it's the most subtle of twangy drawls; mind you most people I know from Cincy are from the Beechmont/New Richmond area so that may have something to do with my perception.
  13. ""You can't just say, 'We've got great, diverse neighborhoods.' It's about specificity. Name a couple of neighborhoods, not all of them."" And having a few specific great diverse neighborhoods is something different from Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh,... need I go on?

Folks, let the thread die on its own please.

Someone should lose the spelling bee - that's what's ridiculous.
  16. I reveal myself to mortals in unforgettable ways... wait, that sounds potentially smutty.

"I consider somebody else's trash my treasure!" Again, I don't see what your dating life has to do with a "Best Cars for City Dwellers" thread - please get back on topic. ;-)

It's called $425-$450 a month with paid heat and water, and the average electric bill is $10 a month.

"since I'm always stopping to pick something up on the side of the road" You really should at least offer the guy a proper seat in the cab.

Of the apartments I saw on Lake Avenue (mostly one-bedrooms), it was either a galley kitchen or the "broom closet" like I described.

Yes, for a one-bedroom in Cleveland, that's a large (and for $550, nicely appointed) kitchen. The largest kitchen I had as a renter was 12x12 in Tremont, followed by a 10x10 on Lake Avenue - friends who lived on Lake were jealous; some of them had enough counter space for their microwave - if they wanted to actually use the counter, they had to put the microwave on the floor!

Although you might think I'd find a "lighter and fruitier" tasting beer more appealing than Burning River, I'm happy to disappoint you!
