^Designed by the same firm. I also like that the support structure is made of segments of a circle (as opposed to being arbitrary "swooshes").

I live in a "car-lite" household (I was car-free before I cohabitated, my partner drives a Mini) but if for some odd reason I had to have a car, I'd strongly consider the Smart.- Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
It's okay - for a second, I thought they were some inverted homage to the East 4th "torches".- Best Cars For City Dwellers
"While small, the Mini Cooper is loaded with six airbags, rear parking sensors and a full range of brake, stability control and steering technology to make it more nimble." Especially helpful for parallel parking the convertible - it has some obnoxious blind spots. Not so helpful when I walk around the car and my partner gets to joke that a "large object set off the sonar again"- Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info

That's not an upside down V - that's the view of the entire sign if you were to stand completely perpendicular to it: And a three-quarter view: "I just personally would like to see them make less of a statement." :?- Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
It's hard to tell if that's just a solid matte grey field, brushed metal, or some kind of mesh - I think mesh would work, as well as help with wind resistance (oh yeah, in addition to working and looking cool, these things have to endure brutal weather conditions!)- Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
I disagree that it's wasted space per se - that space helps break up the bulk of the information cluster. I just think that the arrows are specifically geared for vehicular motorists - given that, providing larger directional arrows will help them select their lane before they're right on top of the sign.- What laws would you change/create to improve your city?
"Feel free to be as blunt or nonpolitically correct as you want." Over my dead, rotting corpse of a body. You don't own, run, or moderate this forum, and don't ever take it upon yourself to suggest that people have no need to exercise good judgement. This thread can continue, but you've already put it on thin ice, chief.- Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
^ Modern art? This is wayfinding signage - should they replicate Parisian Metro signs? :? Considering the amount of signs they'll need to produce, simple shapes will keep costs down. As someone who has had to design signage on this scale, it can be incredibly frustrating. You have to come up with an aesthetically appealing design, but the verbiage basically has to club people over the head (aka actually work for people to find their way). Here are some changes I would recommend - with apologies to Studio Graphique - they usually do a great job, but I think there are a few tweaks that might help make this design more functional. 1. Move the landmark/destination feature sign up - one bus or truck would block it, making the current location worthless. Good idea to add "featured destination" signage but it could be more visible. Also, extend the arc so feature signage can be placed on either side of structure. 2. Create more of a gap/separation between the destinations on the left and right columns. The current bars would blur together at typical vehicular traffic speeds. 3. Enlarge the directional arrrows.- Cleveland - next UrbanOhio forum meet will be....

Did I mention that I helped my partner clear his plate of the fries? Again - they had that crispy, flavorful thing going on but if I wanted that I could just go to McDonald's, right? ;-) Please - I fully volunteer myself to suffer on your behalf.- Cleveland Eateries: A Where To Guide for Visitors and Residents
Made an obligatory return visit to Tremont Tap House - you know, just to support the locals if anything else. Anyway - I went with the Heavy Seas Loose Cannon IPA which reminded me of Bells Two Hearted but with a more citrusy aftertaste - nice; if you like that sort of thing. We ordered some chorizo empanadas to split - you know, crisp and full of flavor made even more tasty with a garnish of salsa and a pinch of lime - nice; if you like that sort of thing. I decided to try the Mac n Cheese with figs, brie, and rosemary - nice; if you like that sort of thing. I mean, sure I scraped the plate, but that was to make it easier for the dishwasher if anything - it's not like I was all set to lick the bowl... err, anyway! My partner had the house burger with white cheddar he basically said - nice; if you like that sort of thing, as did our friend who tried the chicken baguette. I mean, we all seemed to enjoy our meals but I don't know that anyone else would - I mean, I could have had Mac n Cheese out of the box and a Coors. Speaking of - there was a table asking about the beers available - I couldn't tell if she was joking but one woman who might have a self-loathing masochist complex asked for "something that tastes like Coors Light" :? The owner took it all in stride and whatever she ended up with, she seemed to be happy. Anyhoo - I may make a return trip - you know, just to help the locals so please everyone just stick with Applebees and ensure I can always get a seat at Tremont Tap House eat good in the neighborhood. rockandroller, I asked about wine - apparently they only have a license for beer and liquor but not wine (who knew?). Apparently they're in the midst of hunting down a wine license (who knew they cost $10K!!!) but for now, no dice. But again, the food is just so deliciou... err... amazi... I mean, just go to Applebees; I'm sure it's nice - if you like that sort of thing! ;-)- Cloverfield: 1-18-08
I thought the movie was well done for the most part - but there was a really far-fetched element. *SPOILER* Although I'm not a structural engineer, I feel confident in saying that if one of the Time Warner Center towers was extensively damaged like it was in the film, it would NOT simply tip over and "lean" on the other. I was muttering "oh give me a break - as if" when they showed it  Photo from glasssteelandstone.com: Also - what's with films lately and this trend to have an annoying protagonist? Not just annoying but I keep finding myself saying "let him go, who cares if he dies - at least he'll shut the f#ck up!" Whether it's Jodie Foster's character in 'Flightplan', or "Rob" who becomes a blubbering zombie hellbent on traipsing four miles and 60 stories to save his hoochie-mama while armageddon is vaporizing Manhattan block by block? Aren't I supposed to develop some kind of empathy or pity and hope they overcome their obstacles? Instead I find myself saying "oh just let him run out there - hopefully the beast stomps on him" or "why hasn't someone smacked him upside the head yet?". Am I just not hip to the jive? :?- Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I guess Club Alchemy is the former Lift/Smart Bar/Whiskey space. Needless to say they never had this kind of problem when I used to go: From newsnet5.com: http://www.newsnet5.com/news/15324816/detail.html 3 Men Shot At Flats Nightclub CLEVELAND -- Three men were shot early Saturday morning in the Flats. Cleveland police said a man opened fire at Club Alchemy on the East Bank just before 4 a.m. The men were taken to a local hospital. One man was in surgery, and there was no immediate word about the other two victims. Police said they have no suspects. - Best Cars For City Dwellers
