Since neither of us is ultra-sappy and I'm still nursing a cold, the most my partner and I will do is go to one of our local spots - nothing fancy. He did just stop by and drop off a card and a flower - swoooon... :-)
  2. Welcome to the forum - the area around Loftworks seems like most neighborhoods in transition: crime isn't non-existent (like any area in the city) but it's improved over the years. Noise-wise, there's a working railroad across the street but I have no idea about the frequency of trains, etc. As far as the prospects for the neighborhood, again it's transitioning - I'd say for the best but obviously the current state of the economy is going to determine the pace. There's already quite a concentration of artist studios around the area as well as the Asiatown businesses and organizations. As far as resale value, like anything in northeast Ohio it's probably not a place for high-paying instant gratification but you would probably see a respectable ROI given enough time.
  3. Sorry, guess I should clarify - vast majority was the impression I got.
  4. It's that whole non-committal tuscan/craftsman/earthtone/keepitneutralsowedon'tputofftheBainbridgecrowd look. Mind you, I've seen worse, but yeah for what they're asking, they could jazz it up a little.
  5. I said appropriate amends, not amends involving choice real estate ;-)
  6. This thread is for miscellaneous business news/events, including at the municipal level.
  7. Since the banks are pulling back on lending, it sounds like they have to have the condos in 1211 St. Clair sold out before they can get cracking on the north wing.
  8. Wasn't it like 20 degrees on Sunday? Brrr!!! I've seen a few shows and it seemed like quite a few people went to some of the places nearby like Star and Hamiltons (though I'm really not a fan of Hamiltons - there was a bald bartender who was a royally p!ssy b!tch to my friends and I).
  9. "UK College? Where is that at?" It's located near the unnecessary preposition at the end of your sentence. ;-)
  10. For the record, the person who used the photo has apologized and will be making appropriate amends :-)
  11. It's the epitome of everything the Clinic does wrong when it comes to designing facilities for an urban hospital.
  12. It's not mine, it's for Cleveland Public Art. :-) I probably won't need to litigate - after all, all I'd need to show a judge is "here's my photo" and "here's their site". And I don't know that the person in question is necessarily a "dumb sh!t", but they certainly need to be brought up to speed. I mean, I just now sent a reply to some students from Solon High School's paper who asked for permission to use some images and god bless 'em, they actually took the time to read my "Photo Usage" page and wrote a nicely-worded email - I was more than happy to help. "You so speak the truth!!" Honestly, these people are lucky that it's one of my images they poached - there are some photographers in town who litigated in similar situations and got 4- and 5- figure settlements! Needless to say, some heads rolled after that! :-o
  13. In all seriousness, I think it's pretty pathetic that people are so clueless about using photos they find on the web. Let me put it this way - I know some attorneys who have volunteered their services to me, to meet their annual "pro bono" quota. So if I wanted to be a royal b!tch, the email/web records behind Lofts on Fourth could be subpoenaed, and any correspondence that could be tied into any sales? I could make a claim that they've used my photo for their profit and rightfully demand a cut. Seriously. I know people think I'm heavy-handed about this, but I wouldn't have to be if all the designers and marketing people who gank my photos would 1. read 2. educate themselves 3. realize that by stealing my images without permission, they're making their employers vulnerable to a lawsuit. It's 2008, and it's high time people wised up. It takes ten seconds to ask for permission, my fees are absurdly reasonable - and did you know that I donate 100% of my licensing fees to Cleveland Public Art? And as much of a b!tch as I am, I don't come anywhere close to some of the local "veteran" photographers in town.
  14. No, I most certainly did not - looks like someone's going to notified :whip:
  15. Yet he still couldn't make a donation to our Tackle the Tower effort. Typical.

No, the official term is "Vortex of Death". See below ;-)

If you do that, obey the speed limits - there are enough numbn#ts flying through this neighborhood as it is. :whip:
  18. You're thinking of the proposed Staybridge Suites hotel for the old NBC building at Rockwell and East 6th (next to the Federal Reserve Bank). I walk by it everyday and haven't seen any kind of movement on it.
  19. You mean Light? Crop is on West 6th at Frankfort.
  20. Quit your b!tching - "waaaah, I make too much to qualify! waaaah!!!!"

Welcome to the neighborhood, Hayzell. I live about one block east of you. I'm at Beach and Clifton. If you ever want to go for a cup of coffee at Starbucks or Arabica, let me know. In fact, UrbanOhio should make this a regular event -- getting together with all the newcomers over coffee every Saturday morning to share information, answer questions and to help the new arrivals with anything from tips on great restaurants and out of the way places to just having someone to talk to -- really helps get over the homesickness sometimes. 1st Saturday of the month - 10 a.m. - AJ Rocco's Expresso Bar -- 816 Huron Road, Cleveland (downtown). 2nd Saturday of the month - 10 a.m. - Coventry Phoenix Cafe -- 1854 Coventry Road, Cleveland Heights (east side). 3rd Saturday of the month - 10 a.m. - It's It Deli -- 11520 Clifton Blvd., Cleveland (west side). 4th Saturday of the month - 10 a.m. - Dee's Old Brooklyn Diner -- 4326 Pearl Road, Cleveland (south side). Let me know what you all think about this. Based on the above schedule, the first UrbanOhio Coffee Meet-Up would be at the It's It Deli on Clifton. Use MapQuest or Google to get more information. 10am on a Saturday is waaay too early, and once a week is waaay too frequent. The idea is great, but I have my doubts. Again - look at the turnout for events we've tried to coordinate where we've done everything conceivable (within reason) to make sure plenty of people 1. are able to go 2. are reminded when/where with enough frequency ahead of time. It's really frustrating because someone will suggest "let's have a get-together" and a bunch of people say "yeah, that'd be great!" but when it comes to actually attending it's the usual six or seven suspects (who I'm glad are there), but if the point is to get *other/new* people to these events, I don't know what else would work. I'm personally reluctant to help coordinate such an event, even I've been told I'm apparently good at it. Honest to god, it feels like ->

I wouldn't want the fog we had Tuesday to be a permanent fixture but it can make for some cool murky photos:
  23. tlazar39, I noticed they're enclosing the scaffolding but I'm guessing that's for the workers more than the facade materials. I could be wrong, though.
  24. It doesn't look like they had started with the actual facade just yet: But the next set of the townhomes are well under way:

Well how do you think the guacamole feels? I'm all about trying new things when cooking - but guacamole is a sacred thing. Besides, avocados are full of "good fat" and nutrients - from wikipedia: A whole medium avocado contains approximately 21 grams of fat, though most of it is monounsaturated fat. Avocados also have 60% more potassium than bananas. They are rich in B vitamins, as well as vitamin E and vitamin K. They have the highest fiber content of any fruit - including 75% insoluble and 25% soluble fiber. The only thing I could recommend adding to guac would be finely shredded iceberg lettuce. It doesn't mess with the flavor, and you get more mileage out of the batch.
