I wish them well but I'm not surprised - on more than one occasion I was set to spend money there on my lunch break. Unfortunately, every time I stopped by, they weren't open during their posted hours. The one time they were actually open - they forgot to turn their "open/closed" sign around, and the only reason I was able to check them out was because I pulled on the door and voila - "oops, guess we should remember to turn the sign!". I support my locals above all else, but they have to run their ship just like anyone else if they expect to stay afloat.- Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
I can see your point, X - sure, the things that are happening in Detroit-Shoreway are wonderful (and I'm happy to see them do well)- but to suggest that in ten years it'll be comparable to areas in larger cities, with larger tourism numbers, that have taken decades to build their respective"cache"? That's stretching it. It doesn't necessarily hurt anyone to overstate your case or have a little boosterism, but why not just say "this is an amazing neighborhood in and of itself." rather than "this area is just as good as ______!". It's the same feeling I get when people say that Lola/Flying Fig/etc. is "like a great NYC restaurant" - as if being a fantastic place that happens to be in Cleveland just isn't enough.- Cleveland: Steelyard Commons
Better to see them clustered in there than in the neighborhoods, I say.- What's wrong with marrying a Russian stripper who's visa is expiring?

^There's only been a few times in my career where I've had to say this but for things like that, I have no qualms saying "I'm sorry - that tone may work with your loved ones, but it's not going to fly with me. I suggest you find a way to be civil if you want any help. Goodbye!".- frozen grand central
Having navigated Grand Central during morning rush hour, I'm really surprised people didn't just bulldoze through some of these yohos. I personally prefer the hip-switch mambo to navigate that place, but whatever it takes.- frozen grand central

The two that struck me were the topography and the "5 Ohios" graphics, mainly because they both show that where I grew up is on the cusp of two regions. The "5 Ohios" shows that my hometown is the northernmost point of Appalachia (the northern "notch" of Columbiana County, formerly a township of Mahoning County). And the topgraphy map shows the line of demarcation between the rolling hills and the Appalachian foothills. There's definitely a cultural difference as well.- Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
Thought about that but SketchUp seems like it would be a lot quicker for something like this. I may resort to that, though.- Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
BANNED!- Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
Like I have time to sit for a whole tutorial and learn how to render a kitchen sink for a floorplan, when all I want to do is be able to render a variety of mixed-use buildings of varying height coupled with some townhomes, greenspace, and transit waiting environments! Tutorials - pffft!! ;-) Seriously - once I can figure out how to adjust the perspective that's being rendered so that it matches the perspective on the aerial photo I'll be in business. But figuring out how that happens - thanks to the left-brained approach that SketchUp is based on, is next to impossible for someone who needs WYSIWYG as much as I do.- Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
If that's the case, awww, what a pity :-D- Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue

Talk about dreaming, if you had a couple million $$$ and could acquire these three properties, what would you do with the corner of Detroit & Lake? Nearly 2 acres and about 90% of it is asphalt. It would be a fantastic site to explore... If I can get SketchUp to work, I'll try to put something together. It's possibly the most aggravating and unintuitive program I've ever tried to use (the three times I've tried). When you copy something and go to paste it, the new object should be what? Exactly the same as the first! :x You left-brainers need to get with it!- Cleveland: Flats East Bank

Paid partially with my tax dollars - I'm truly beginning to wonder (and scarily - I'm sounding like Tim Hagan :-o ) what's the point of design review and all these committees if all this garbage keeps getting built and quality buildings keep getting demolished for things like parking lots? It'd be one thing if these developers weren't feeding out of the city trough, but when my money's being used, I'd appreciate it if the people who are supposed to be speaking on my behalf would do so with one of these:- Cleveland - next UrbanOhio forum meet will be....
I figured it might be short notice - how about we all try for lunch sometime the week of the 11th?- Cleveland - next UrbanOhio forum meet will be....
The water down there is some bizarre turquoise color - it's nice for a while, but it certainly doesn't compare to our beautiful Lake's shades of muddled bleh. And I'll have you know it's up to 13 as I type this!- Cleveland - next UrbanOhio forum meet will be....
So vacation is more important than lunch with the UO crew? BANNED!!! :whip:- Cleveland - next UrbanOhio forum meet will be....
That's a ways off but some people have expressed interest in meeting for lunch. Since the weather's supposed to be decent next week, maybe we can shoot for that - and discuss plans for the 28th over lunch. Just a suggestion.
