  1. Hey, I love Cincy (and you know it) - it's great to see this one get moving.

I've been to Scio (and the neighboring Jewett and New Rumley) - I can assure you, the accents are West-by God-Virginia aka 'Deliverance'. The area's claim to fame is that Clark Gable, George Custer and Cy Young are from there. My parents like to take long drives in the country and this is one of the areas they like. I've already told them if they move there, I'll put them in separate nursing homes.
  3. This was in cleveland.com - congrats Cincy! Office tower would be tallest in Cincinnati Thursday, December 20, 2007 Associated Press Cincinnati - A building proposed for downtown Cincinnati would be the city's tallest structure, a 40-story office tower near the Ohio River. Western & Southern Financial Group met with city officials on Tuesday to propose a timeline for its Queen City Square project, which could open in 2011. Turner Construction would be the project manager. The plan is for 800,000 square feet of office space, 21,000 square feet of ground-level retail and 1,300 parking spaces on nine levels, city officials said. A distinctive arching roof would make it taller than the 574-foot Carew Tower, even though it would have fewer floors. It would not be the tallest building in Ohio, however. That distinction belongs to Cleveland's 947-foot Key Tower.

Thank you, skippy - the thread is named after the article in the first post. The thread is now discussing similar articles and findings from other cities. You disappear for months on end and when you come back, you seem to think you're an Admin. :wtf:

""Ten miles doesn't seem like much -- until you realize it's really 20 miles a day and 100 more miles a week," Ding-ding-ding!!!
  6. Highly not recommended - the place was a lot of fun, but the place next door was also fun and had Christmas Ale... on tap. :drunk:
  7. I was just going to say - the space reminds me of a place in Cincinnati called Jaspers. Smallish place with decent, affordable menu and a small stage area. Make the ticket window the valet stand and you're good to go!
  8. Good in theory, but I think I read that the owners of Beachland are trying to get out of the business. :|

Thus, ten reasons to enjoy Christmas Ale - that way, your nerves feel absolutely nothing. :drunk:
  11. Umm, I think he's saying that he feels bad if Ohio is indeed 50% sunnier than Germany... and I'd have to agree. I like an occasional overcast day, but Cleveland has enough of those as it is. Anyhoo, this is all pretty good news!
  12. Animosity? :wtf:
  13. "I am constantly told to move out of the Heights and head for the lower taxes in Solon." I'm sure plenty are told to make the move from any inner-ring area with higher taxes. However, what happens when so many people have followed to those low-tax areas? School enrollments, traffic congestion, utility usage goes up and so the demand for infrastructure and services goes up, and eventually the need for additional tax revenue. Then you see people fleeing to more remote rural areas with even lower taxes, but less services. Then you rinse, lather, repeat. It wouldn't irk me so much, but I've met SO many people living in places like Solon, Avon, etc. who - after I explain the above scenario - act as though I've bestowed an epiphany upon them. If I had a dollar for every time I've heard "gee, I never thought of it that way", I'd be filthy rich.
  14. "Better Yet! BEHOLD, THE QUEEN IS IN THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Oh honey, I've been here for quite some time but thanks for the proclamation! ;-) ajknee, the "crazy" statue is the War Memorial Fountain or 'Peace Arising from the Flames of War' - take your pick.

That last photo - that is awesome!
  16. Good question - I think that the top section and the ornamental sections are of the greatest concern since they're brick with stone facades. IIRC, the lower portion's facade is of a more durable material but I could be mistaken. Whatever the case, it's looking a lot better and they're still removing the scaffolding (from Friday, Dec. 12):

Euclid and East 75th. I believe they were built as the Rugby Apartments:
  19. No, Bottoms Up/Abbasso was actually there for quite some time. The problem with that location is that it's just a bit off the beaten path and the residential rehabs are just *now* making their way to that area.

"Miss. HBIC, I thought you have more street cred than that! humph!" Sister, I guess I just don't associate with heroin-funding food scammers as much as you do. Perhaps, my local market just isn't as 'hood as yours. :-)
  21. Heavy is the crown of the one who is predictable ;-)

    Work with me, ink.
  23. "Free Stamp?? No!" Disregard this forumer's comment - he's normally quite lucid but apparently has had a momentary lapse. :-) Seriously though - the Free Stamp is a terrific work of public art.

THANK you! I *knew* that someone here would know! So it's not just the nourishment and sunlight thing making her pasty... okay, this all makes sense now!
