Cleveland - next UrbanOhio forum meet will be....
Yes folks, once again you can hang out with the cool kids and attend an UrbanOhio forum meet! :drunk: :-D :drunk:  :drunk: The details: Oct. 28th (THIS Sunday), 6pm at Wonder Bar on East 4th Street in Cleveland's glorious Gateway District. http://www.wonderbarcleveland.com/first.htm As always, if you want to grab a bite to eat during the meet, we won't stop you (though we might stare and pope might try to snarf off your plate but it's all good). It's informal, bring a friend/spouse/partner (definitely not a date, not one you're trying to impress anyway) and have a good time. Lurkers and newbies are just as welcome as anyone so don't be afraid. Fyi, I believe they have Christmas Ale on tap - just throwing that out there ;-) If you plan to attend, please reply in this thread so I have a head count!

Cleveland - Where to live for $150,000?
Just for the record folks - the official forum rule is that realtors are welcome to market their services/listings when appropriate (i.e. someone posts a question asking for info). What isn't approved is gratuitous posts of home listings that aren't in any way relevant to the topic of the thread - pretty common sense, but just so everyone knows. :-)

Cleveland: Steelyard Commons
I don't understand why it's baffling - 90 percent occupancy but that's for an area with 12,000 residents (and I'm being generous). Of those 12,000 residents, around 1,000 or so are incarcerated at the Justice Center. So let's say we're working with a figure of 10,000 people - that's nowhere near enough to justify opening some big-box store in downtown, given the higher land values, etc. There's no way a typical Wal-Mart parking lot belongs in downtown, so they'd have to provide structured parking and likely stack their big-box format. Do you really think 10,000 people would give a good ROI on something like that?

Imagine my shock when I learned that Hafner was a designated hitter. I mean, it's one thing to be designated but isn't there HITTING involved as well? Ah well, like peabody said... :|

If you're focusing on the condo/townhome end, be sure to get all the information you can about maintenance fees and assessments.

I guess 6pm would work - they open at 5ish, and that'll give everyone time to have a drinky or two and still be home in time to recuperate :drunk: Does 6 work? Going... going...

Given that your home is likely going to be one of the single-most expensive investments you'll ever make - wouldn't you WANT to be picky? Just so you know - we do have some local realtors who are members of the forum; would you be interested in hearing from them?

Cleveland: Bank Recommendation Wanted
Welcome to the forum! I think this may be one of those questions where if you ask 100 different people, you'll get 100 different answers. That said, would you prefer a smaller bank that may have more personalized service (but less branches/ATMs), or would you prefer a larger bank that may not have personal service but can offer the latest technology, and more branches/convenience etc.? Do you need a bank that has experience with foreign transactions, or simply domestic? I think most banks are probably going to look very similar on paper, and there's not much difference between them but it's those little details that will help determine which one is a better fit for you.

"Drove by today and unless I counted wrong (I did need to use all the fingers on one hand) They've begun work on the 5th floor." Sorry but you counted wrong - they're working on floor #4 as of today. My photos were taken on Friday the 19th.

"Are the Browns playing at 1 or 4 that day? Depending on how the Tribe does tonight, that could be a pretty sweet day for Cleveland sports fans." They play an away game at 1pm - and we don't need to discuss that other team (at least for another day or two). Sooo, how about Wonder Bar on Sunday, Oct. 28th at 7pm?

CLEVELAND - Town and Country in the Fall!
^Ah yes, Melt... ain't it great! Yeah, Szalays was really busy thus we grabbed the first decent pumpkins we saw and bolted. The original plan was to go to Burton but we were on a time crunch so Peninsula it was.

CLEVELAND - Town and Country in the Fall!
Today was absolutely beautiful (upper 70s and sunny). Since it's that time of year my partner wanted to take a little drive to pick up some pumpkins so we headed out to Peninsula (no hikes/death marches this time). Here's what I saw... Heading down Columbus Road to pick up a friend who lives in Stonebridge: Gotta say I'm proud of myself for getting this shot from a moving car on bumpy-as-can-be Franklin Avenue: Scroll--->>> Here we are at Stonebridge and the Viaduct: The landmark steeple of St. Malachi: Hodgepodge: Hi peabody! Details on the Perry-Payne Building: Two outta three ain't bad (where's Meatloaf when you need him?) C'mon guys! *groan* Partner's convertible: a good chunk of change. Having the top down on a crisp day and happily sitting in back to get skyline shots: priceless :-) Scroll again! Mittal Steel: This view shows some gaps but it was always the view I had in my formative years so I still have a soft spot for it: Oh god, it's the Mason-Dixon line! Oh god, after this it's all the 'burbs! But at least the leaves are changing color! Yeah, a talented person used to Manhattan or the Loop would jump at the chance to work in a place like this  See those trees in the background? They used to come all the way up to the road - but to h#ll with trees, they have ample parking!!! Enough of the exurban vomit: In case you wondered how the site of the former Richfield Coliseum was doing: Finally we make it to Peninsula - pretty busy, but not surprising given the weather: Quaint shops but the vehicles remind that the wealth of the 'burbs isn't far away: Charming architecture, loads of cyclists, pedestrian-friendly... why don't we get it outside of this place? After a quick lunch at Fishers Cafe, it's over to Szalay's Farm Market: This place was packed with kids, parents, oblivious people - not unlike the West Market's produce arcade on a Saturday morning. So we dashed in, got the goods and headed back. This is a place my parents would love (not my cup of tea but it's charming): And just up the road, it's Wisteria Lane for the budget-minded: 21 miles too far: Beautiful skies: Yeah, try to recruit an urban-minded person to a place like this - hey, at least you can see it from the freeway! WWJD? He probably wouldn't 1. locate in an affluent 'burb and 2. tear down healthy trees to build a church and 3. locate said church in a place inaccessible to the poor. But what do I know? Speaking of - I see tall buildings, praise the lord! It's chintzy architecture, but it does have a cool "reveal"... Too bad my camera wouldn't focus in time :x But it's good to be back in the city where I belong: I'll take it, warts and all: Alright, bring it on home! Have a good night, and for the love of all that's holy - GO TRIBE!!! :whip:

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
99% of the time, I don't follow sports at all. The only reason I've watched the Tribe this year is because my partner mildly follows them. Since he watches them, I get roped into figuring out what's going on and naturally I start to follow the games as well. However, it's like I said - it would be one thing if they played a respectable game but were still beat like... 4 to 2, 5 to 2... but 12 to 2? Stomped like narcs at a biker rally!

What are your current or short term future goals?
For the most part I'm content with work, love life, surroundings, etc. but it's always good to find ways to improve. My partner and I share 3,000 sq. feet in a restored Victorian so there's no way I'd want anything larger. But now that I've been cohabitating for 6 months, I suppose there are some minor cosmetic things that could be done, like a few borders and wallpaper that we've been meaning to take down but haven't. It's not easy to find time for that kind of stuff. There are some major things we'd like to have done but I leave that up to the partner to take care of. Career-wise, I love what I do (having been a designer for almost 15 years, I really can't fathom another line of work), and for the most part, I like where I work. Lately I've been developing a few freelance opportunities that won't pay much but are more fulfilling "fun" work. One thing I'd like to do in the near future is take my website and overhaul it - I like that it's really easy for people to get info, etc. but I suppose it needs a fresh look. I also need to think about talking to my publisher and seeing if an updated version of my book would be feasible. It's weird to think it's been almost five years since it was published and it's cool that about 3,000 copies have sold but who knows, maybe a second edition wouldn't be a bad idea?

It's the difference between losing respectably and getting stomped like narcs at a biker rally.
