  2. The partner got a big "I told you so" when I said they should have pulled Carmona after that grand slam.

What am I doing wrong?!? That link takes me to the SSP home page, not the forum!?!

Post a link to the live site - I keep getting re-routed to the SSP home page. :wtf:

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you Rob.
  7. I worked for a bank at the corporate level; if 5/3rd is anything like where I worked, you're not likely to meet a more self-important bunch of people. Banks by nature are really political - you have so many levels of "big fishes in small ponds" and just about everyone has a VP before their title. It can be very cut-throat as well. As others have mentioned, you'll likely have the bank's "culture" forced down your throat and you'll be expected to sing its praises 24/7. The scariest part are the people who are thoroughly convinced (deluded?) that the bank will be around forever (along with their jobs). Mind you, I worked with some very wonderful people in spite of the environment. Good luck! :-)

Oh for god's sake, cut him some slack - at least he didn't say Carson Kressley!

^^Keep in mind my situation is not the same across all creative fields - if you work in corporate, you have to dress business-casual (khakis/polo) at minimum. If you're working for a firm where you're required to give presentations to clients, you'd better believe you'll have one of those fabric nooses around your neck. And I hope your friends are getting the tattoos somewhere inconspicuous because their current employer might approve but the next one might not. "I just cringe when I see people in skinny jeans wearing them with a "sag". What the hell is that all about??" It's for white people who have no money for food (they spent it all on band equipment) and as a result, have no @ss to hold up their pants.

David, I feel your pain about finding a good fit with jeans - especially when that skinny-jean phase came through. My waist is on the small side but I have some curves so some jeans will fit on the waist, but act like tourniquets on my thighs. Yeeouch! I'm not sure what my style would be called - it's definitely casual and anything but preppy. I wear a lot of black (leftover trait from my alterna-punk days), and I'm usually in jeans (Guess, Zara, Mavi have worked for me). Since I'm in a creative field and my position doesn't involve outside meetings, etc., I'm allowed some leeway. I never meet with clients so at work I'm usually in jeans and either a t-shirt or a polo shirt. In the winter, it's either a sweater or a thermal under a t-shirt. Once or maybe twice a week I'll throw on khakis and a polo for sh!ts and giggles (or if I know ahead of time we're having an internal meeting with a higher-up) but that's about it. As David mentioned, my putting on a suit will do nothing to improve my work and I am indeed judged on what I produce. Not to mention, the graphic design field doesn't PAY enough for me to buy suits! The only time I put on a suit is for interviews, weddings or calling hours. It will be in my will that I am NOT to be buried in a suit. I'm just not a suit person, and I don't think I ever will be. My partner (who *has* to wear a suit every day) and I made an after-work stop at the grocery store the other day and an acquaintance came up and said "hey, it's the businessman and the street punk - the Odd Couple!". I kinda liked the sound of that!
  11. Of course, there's always.... http://www.shoprta.com/products/5br.html/ ;-)
  12. I imagine Lola has taken some of their business - there's really not a lot of wiggle room for "special occasion" spots like Vivo and Lola. Lola has the name recognition with Michael Symon, but they're both at a price point where they're beyond "every day" spots.
  13. What the heck, let's start the weekend with an Avenue District bonanza! :-)
  14. ""Oddly enough, sometimes they get that information. When we send the notice of demolition, they'll send a lawyer."" The lowest form of white collar scum.

"I go to http://www.skyscrapercity.com/ for my needs. Great forum." Skyscrapercity began as World Skyscraper Forum, which was an offshoot of Skyscraperpage. It was another forum set up for a less North American-centric format, but became a refuge for the people banned from Skyscraperpage.com. The moderating is a little lax, and honestly the maturity level at Skyscrapercity just isn't what it should be. It's great for info on Europe and Asia though. Urbanplanet's ridiculous - some people were posting images from my site without saying where they came from. I'm okay with people doing that as long as they cite the source, so I just said "Hi folks, please cite my website since these aren't your photos". Their admin wiped out everyones' posts and said "since we don't know what photos are okay to use and what aren't, just avoid clevelandskyscrapers.com altogether". They really need to get over themselves - given the level of participation, I'd say everyone else has.

  17. Get ready to have your mailbox filled with solicitations if that's the case
  18. What I don't understand was the cameraman's insistence on zooming in on two of the most unattractive humans I've EVER laid eyes on - Kevin Useless and that pitcher - what's his name, Pamperbutt aka Skeletor Jr.?

The SSP forum is down because of a server upgrade. In the meantime, there's a "skyscrapersforum" forum which leaves a lot to be desired.
  20. Dear god, I hope they get it back online soon. Why? Some examples from the substitute "forum": August 1st, 2007: "that place looks insane!! why have I not heard of this dubai before??" Sept. 16th, 2007 (by a mod, no less): "Also, no badmouthing and or hate-spewing the Freedom Tower or calling it ugly names or even constantly saying that it's ugly! I've had to tolerate this crap as well there. Anyone who does this, their posts or threads will either be closed, edited or deleted." Oct. 18th, 2007 (this is how they titled a thread announcing a new project): "New Museum Plaza in the world!!!!!!!!!!" God help us...

I can handle the vacation talk to a point. I can handle people talking briefly about a funny thing their kid did the other day. However, when people blather on and on (mind you, while they're sober and I'm trying my best not to be) about their "gifted", "adorable", or "cutest" spawn... or how it's just so f#cking neat that they make turbocharged diapers, or there's a new show made for 2 year olds - but parents love it too... And if someone gets the lovely idea that my partner and I should adopt and then be f#cking stupid enough to suggest it, I assure you - said person will be spayed/neutered with a rusty pizza wheel! :x Don't worry folks - my partner knows he's really lucky to be with someone as delightfully cheerful as me!
  24. Hardly - stop being cheap
