  2. "Oh, and another thing, European cities have security guards at the doors of very store to prevent shoplifting. Maybe we need a few of them if tenants and customers don't feel safe in TC." That's also in NYC, Chicago, etc. and I wholeheartedly support the idea. If Stark's plans go through, it would behoove them to have a strong security presence in and outside the retail spots.

From Properties Magazine Click the link for the original article and photos: http://www.propertiesmag.com/current/2007-10/S.htm Expanding Views: Stonebridge continues steady development in the Flats with latest phases By Nancy Loyan Schuemann | Photos by Scott Morris No stone has been left unturned on the newest phase of the Stonebridge development in the Flats. Douglas Price, president of Stonebridge Management and principal of the K&D Group (Cleveland's largest multi-family development firm) and Robert Corna, vice president of Stonebridge Management and principal of Architectural Concept, Inc. have created another signature address. The grand opening of Stonebridge Plaza (1237 Washington Blvd., at Center Street), took place on September 20 and already sales of the luxury apartments and condominiums are brisk. Stonebridge Plaza is the fifth phase of Stonebridge, a development that began with the seven-story, 30-suite Stonebridge Apartments in 2001. The success of this project led to the construction of a second 132-suite apartment complex. In 2004, a third 12-story, 160-unit condominium-apartment complex was added. This prompted the renovation of two 100-year old brick structures into a 55,000-square-foot office building, Stonebridge Center. Stonebridge Plaza has been part of K&D's master plan for the past five years. The newest addition to the Stonebridge “neighborhood,” Stonebridge Plaza is a 12-story, 108-unit condominium-apartment complex. The steel-framed structure is comprised of an aluminum and glass curtainwall system with tile accents. This curtainwall system was designed specifically for this complex, offering a watertight weep system with two back-up systems. Blown-in cellulose insulation eliminates drafts and maintains indoor temperatures. Floor-to-ceiling walls of windows are of energy-efficient, low-glare Low-E glass. Baseboard heating under the windows is for added warmth, aiding the energy-efficient heating system. Floors are constructed of Level Rock™ panels. Concrete was pumped in, one-and-a-half inches thick, into steel tracks and self-leveled. This creates a soundproof building. The entire structure was pre-fabricated in the shop and brought and installed on-site. Read More...

I've never been (people in my field aren't in the typical "professional networking" mold), I was just asking since they're one of the more well-known groups.

"Our civic organizations should work on improving the social network for singles in this area." Devil's advocate time - how many of you are members of groups like Cleveland 20/30?
  7. Bar One is in the Leader Building:
  8. "MayDay? talking sports?" Blame it on the boyfriend*... and we got one more!!! *Believe me, I'm having quite a few WTF moments.

"And when you go on 20 dates and there's not a single person in the group that meet the criteria on your checklist" While I would never suggest someone completely pitch their standards, I've heard some checklists that are absolutely absurd. Not locally but I know someone who is HIV+ and is militantly unwilling to dating guys who aren't "thuggish" (their word, not mine) black guys - they live in a southern city with a population under 100K. Gee, wonder why they're single. I also know someone who was getting to know someone, found them attractive but called it off because the other person's hair reminded them of their dad - not the style, the coloring. So when I hear "there's no one around to date" - sure, there's sensible filtering and I'm the first to advocate sticking to your guns - but then there's "okay, you mayyy want to unclench the unattainable standards a smidge." And I'll say this much about the gay community in Cleveland - if you think you might be interested in someone but are hesitant because you've heard whatever rumor - go to the source before you completely write someone off. There are some absolutely evil b!tches (for once I don't mean that as a compliment) in this city who thrive on making sure no one else is dating and/or happy as long as they aren't. It sounds silly, but if I had a dime for every "ohh, I thought they were cute but their ex said that..." - know what I mean? Mind you I totally agree about the dating dynamic in Cleveland - it's difficult, but conversely, I just got off the phone with some friends in NYC who bemoan the fact that everything is so transient there. Sure, they might meet a great guy but they and that great guy know that they can just head right back out since there will be someone/something new going on. As they said, it sounds fun at first but after awhile having all those options can be more of a hindrance to dating than a help. I guess it's a tradeoff no matter where you are.
  10. Those all sound good - especially all night happy hour on Sundays (though we did have a prior meet at Bier Markt). One thing about meetups that I'd like to try to stick to is super-easy transit access for the car-free/transit folks. So here's my question: is Lolita a stretch, given that it's a Sunday meet and the buses/trains run less frequently? For most people it would involve at least a bus/Rapid ride and connection to a Circulator - too much of a pain in the arse? I guess I'm not focusing so much on Lolita but just trying to get a feel for everyones' comfort zone.
  11. When Great Lakes makes 40oz, that'll work!
  12. If they'd list their hours on their site, it'd be a lot easier! :whip:

Gotta wonder if that *ever* crossed their mind.
  14. How about somewhere on East 4th? I'd like to try Wonder Bar but (pet peeve tirade time) they don't list their d@mned hours on their site!!!

No you're thinking of Legends. Numbers was at 620 Frankfort (West 6th and Frankfort next to little bar) became Atlantis, which became Hydra which is now Motion.

"So, you have to go to each person and say "Hey, I'm so and so, and I'm new here..." I would say this is the case 50% of the time at least. I'm not saying this is the worst thing ever, but when you're the new person, it definitely helps when someone helps introduce you to everyone." You bring up a very good point and one that should be heeded by every group in Cleveland. If you have an event, designate some members of your group to be the "social butterflies" and help make newcomers feel welcome. The reason I choose to donate money and time (volunteer work) to Cleveland Public Art is because when I first volunteered at an event, two of their staffers came up to me, introduced themselves, thanked me for my efforts and began to introduce me to some of the other volunteers. They were genuinely appreciative that we were there and showed it. After the event, they said "hey, some of us are going out for drinks later, you're welcome to join us". I wasn't able to join them, but it was a little gesture that has gone a long way. It not only made me WANT to volunteer for more events; I eventually ended up deciding to donate the licensing fees from my site's photos (rather than deal with 1099 forms, etc.) and this year my donation total is getting close to $1000. And more importantly, I've made quite a few friends via the people I've met at CPA. Conversely, my experience with other groups in Cleveland has made me write them off. For example, the Young Friends of the Cleveland Museum of Art. Maybe things have changed since then (one could only hope) but I attended two meetings a few years ago. One was advertised as a regular meeting. I stopped by the regular meeting, and it was obviously a "let's discuss old business/financials/etc." so I excused myself after 20 minutes. No big whoop since I thought the new members meeting would be much more appropriate. I get there, and no one beyond the sign-in person spoke to me* (and the extent of that was "oh, new person, huh?"). As we went around the room introducing ourselves I figured "okay, they're going to have some kind of opportunities for us to get involved." Nope. "Maybe they'll announce some upcoming events?" Nope. They just had a brief talk about different events they have during the year and then had a "mixer" where everyone clumped into a standoffish little huddle - everyone except the new members. Basically the new people (myself and two other people) took time out of our day to show up, introduce ourselves, and listen to the regulars talk amongst themselves. I asked the other new members "was it me, or did they not exactly welcome the new people at a new members meeting?". *They agreed, and they echoed my sentiments - that it wasn't worth our time. I'll happily support the museum via general membership but I'll be d@mned if I give a dime (or my time) to a group that doesn't go out of its way to welcome new people who actually give a sh!t.
  17. Let's see, the 28th is a Sunday: 1. Does that work for anyone? 2. Any suggestions?
  18. Yeesh, 11 innings but they finally decided to kick @ss and take names!
  19. Yes, I took that pic (and many others) - that's where the 515 Euclid Tower will (hopefully soon) be built.

"not overweight, clear skin, kind personality, intelligent, sense of humor, warm smile..." Do you meet those criteria yourself?

No further scolding, just some context: "If you could set aside your bias for site regulars you might see how his comment was, at best, ungracious and pointless; at worst, vaguely invidious." I absolutely can see how it could be interpreted that way, and being able to set aside bias is why I'm an Admin here :-) I can't and won't speak for KJP, and if you two want to discuss the issue, the forum's private message system is the best medium for that. No need to apologize for taking things seriously, either - it's just that I don't expect everyone to like each other, but at least try to get along. Having met KJP on a few occasions, he's usually pretty good about that (usually) ;-) Do us a favor and keep us posted on your findings - I think a lot of us would be interested.
  22. Since I'm a total dork, the red is what was built or at least fit in the original scheme, the green is what was built but not exactly how it was originally rendered and the blue didn't get built to the best of my knowledge:
  23. ^Have the pilings/footers/whatchamacallits already been put in for the next buildings? Third floor is well underway:

Alright kids, simmer down... tom2323, you're welcome to participate on the forum and ask for advice, but as punch said - KJP contributes an enormous amount of info here. Given that Cleveland is a smaller market for writers, he probably has good reason to be apprehensive about what info he chooses to disclose, especially considering that he's in more of a position to be "scooped" (weekly paper versus monthly pub). He's given us a lot of information about the downtown residential projects and he's likely taken a lot of time to develop a relationship and trust with his sources. Regardless, I imagine with the amount of people on the forum, you'll get plenty of information with or without KJP's help.
