  1. The concept for using various icons to replace the "L" is a good idea. The execution in the intro animation is appalling bad and an embarassment. Want to see the trainwreck for yourself - click here and don't hit "skip intro": http://www.positivelycleveland.com
  2. Rock the f#ck ON!!!!!!!
  3. Okay folks, here's how it works: 1. Select a venue - one that offers good booze at an affordable price. 2. Make sure venue is centrally located/easily accessible via whatever transit is available. 3. Announce the notion of having a meet on the forum, one month (maybe two, because people can be forgetful) in advance. 4. Wait until three or four people respond with "yes, I can attend!", Whatever date is agreed on, stick to it. 5. Once date is confirmed, one or more people from said city should add the meet info in their sig. 6. When the event is one week away, bump the initial thread once a day. 7. The day before the event, bump the thread like it wants it; no, like it needs it. 8. Make sure one or two people agree to be "point people" and show up 15 minutes before scheduled meet time. 9. If ten people agree to show, plan for seven to show, two to cancel, and one to say "oh, didn't realize it was THAT day!"
  4. Most government entities from the federal level to local/municipal have email addresses, phone numbers, and mailing addresses listed on their respective web sites. You might have a point though - it would be good to have a centralized list (which I thought MTS put together). Perhaps you can take on that project and we can find a spot for it on the forum. As far as this forum not getting anything done, I have to disagree. Before this forum came along, where would you go for all the information that's available here? Where would like-minded people go to share ideas and information? Where would someone seeking relocation information that's geared toward city living go for help? Where would you go to find out the status of construction projects? cleveland.com forums? Members of this forum have: - Assisted a number of people with relocation to Cleveland. - At each forum meet, generated hundreds of dollars of revenue for individual local businesses (notably Great Lakes Brewing). - Assisted local non-profits further develop a volunteer base. - Participated in Riversweep (cleanup of the Cuyahoga banks). - Enabled out-of-towners to be updated with events and info. - Routinely contacted members of the local media and government with concerns. - Recruited representatives of local groups such as RTA and the Downtown Cleveland Alliance to participate. - Recruited representatives of local development projects to participate. There's more, but I think you get the point. What I want to know is - what exactly should we be doing that we aren't? And I also have to ask - exactly what do you think this forum is capable of? Remember, no one here is getting paid for their efforts; no one is being funded to be a full-time advocate and it's not like we can pick up shovels and start digging up parking lots to move development along.
  5. For sh!ts and giggles, I sketched up some generic massing renderings. I have to agree with Hts44121, one of the merits of the Ameritrust Center design was that though it was a monster tower, the majority of it was placed on the northern end of the site which gave Terminal Tower some visual breathing room. This is the approximate Ameritrust model - with the tower on the northern portion and a base that topped out at the height of the 55 Building on the southern portion: Similar but with a base that topped out at Terminal's first setback: And a big leviathan version that fills the entire site with a uniform height:
  6. Those were NOT mayflies! BUT WE WON!!!!!!!!!
  7. If you go, and if you're able - stop in at Trinity Cathedral next door - absolutely gorgeous. From cleveland.com Trinity Commons shops in Cleveland hold sidewalk sale to make the point they are still open Hours: 10:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. today; 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Friday, October 05, 2007 Laura DeMarco Plain Dealer Columnist Yes, the shops at Trinity Commons are open. They have been all year, though Euclid Avenue construction in front of the area has led many shoppers to assume otherwise. But now the work is done, and the stores are holding a sale on their brand new sidewalk to celebrate -- and to remind shoppers their doors are open. More from cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com/printer/printer.ssf?/base/friday/1191486949293530.xml&coll=2&thispage=2
  8. "Why are there no media alerts asking ticket holders, fans, those wanting to be apart of the excitement throughout downtown to take public transporation? Why is there no communication, other than the "fans tips" on RTA? I haven't seen or heard a thing." Given Jerry's reply (and cle2032's follow-up), I think you owe him and the staff of RTA an apology. Asking "what media alerts or communication is going on in conjunction with the games?" would have been a lot less accusatory. Sorry - that kind of baseless b!tching is a major pet peeve with me, and the only thing it accomplishes is the perpetuation of misinformation.
  9. It may have nothing to do with the building itself, but there was a crew poking around in the "vault" in front of the Rockwell/WKYC building (slated to be converted into Staybridge Suites).
  10. "^Whoa, help me out with this. Which building is this? Where on Euclid? Don't like the sound of that."
  11. "Thats Bullsh!t! The man has his own personal preferences. There is a line between LeBron the person and LeBron the "brand" and people need to respect that." No, it was in extremely poor taste - and there is no line between MayDay the person and MayDay the Admin and HBIC so you need to respect that. :whip:

"It's odd that i remeber this show, or even watched it, as I think it was made more for adults." That sounds like me and "Love, Sidney" (ended in 1983). I loved that series and watched every single episode because I felt a kinship with the lead character. I only knew I was "different" - at that age I didn't really know what it meant to be gay and it wasn't until later that I realized he was the first gay character on primetime TV.

Um, never mind her - Gil Gerard! :-D "Speaking of Star Wars Derivatives:" Oh my... Dirk Benedict!
  14. Yep, you're right... they must have given me de-caf again :-P
  15. Maybe I'm a moron for just now noticing, but isn't that Tyler Village in the upper right of this shot?

My partner loooves 'Lost in Space'... I was more of a 'Buck Rogers' fan.
  17. "no straight man should ever...eva...refer to themself as "petite". My people don't even use that word." I'm 5'9" and I wish I could refer to myself as "petite" but that's another story.
  18. *scowl*... j/k, that was actually a good one! But honey, the last thing "my people" would ever want is for "your people" to dress just like us (despite Carson from Queer Eye - he's given us a bad name) and we know you feel the same way. Thus, those decisions are better left to us :-D
  19. That ship is about ten feet shorter than the Rhodes Tower in Columbus - and similarly-sized ships routinely navigate the tight curves of the Cuyahoga River (which is one of the coolest sights in Cleveland): Great shots, rob!!

"You watch that bullsh!t? What ever happend to shows with good dialogue and PLOT? Superficial shows like that and admiring Paris Hilton are the reason girls my age think it's so cool to act ditzy and stupid as part of our "look-at-me" culture. It's trash." 1. I'm gay. 2. I'm gay and you're surprised that I watch Top Model. :wtf: 3. I also watch shows with good dialogue and plot. Get back to me when you've watched "All About Eve". 4. Get over yourself - I'm sure every single moment of your life is spent with only the most highbrow of entertainment  Girls your age have been acting ditzy and stupid looong before you or I came into the world, and loooong before Top Model came on the air. Top Model is fluff - fluff I happen to enjoy, and though it's definitely fluff, you're wrong in suggesting that the show encourages girls to be stupid. Don't blame your involuntary celibacy on Top Model. If I were you, I'd be careful because there are some quality gals out there who enjoy Top Model and if you diss on their show, I guarantee your period of celibacy will be extended ;-)

Awesome - congrats on getting published in such a high-profile book! Did you approach them, or did they contact you? And of course, did you get to talk with or meet Oprah? :-D

Welll, if we're going to mention TV shows - in the early 1980s, the show that did it for me was 'Style with Elsa Klensch' on CNN. I still have a bunch of the shows recorded on VHS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Style_with_Elsa_Klensch I guess I wasn't completely unlike the younger brother character in "Ugly Betty". In the 2nd season of 'America's Next Top Model' (my current must-watch), one of the contestants said "when other kids were watching cartoons, I was watching 'Style with Elsa Klensch'" and I squealed like a little girl since I thought I was one of two people who even knew who Elsa Klensch is. Of course, that contestant went on to win :D
  23. I really don't see the Warehouse District Convention Center proposal resurfacing. The site is completely inappropriate for the use (20+ loading docks, etc.) and expansion isn't an option.
