Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
w28th judges lots of things ;-) obviously he has a preference for saving the tower and that's what he's basing his statement on. I think it might be more accurate to say that a vast majority either don't like the tower, or they're apathetic about it specifically because they don't find it visually appealing. I also have to wonder if there is any lingering sentiment from 1978 - Cleveland Trust was the bank that threw the city into default; perhaps some people see it as a symbol from those unpleasant days? I'm just thinking out loud on that one...

Arcade "Rally" in Dayton....meet the activists:
Generally speaking, most historical/preservation societies tend to be made up of older folks - mostly because they have the free time to devote to it. Don't let that scare you off from joining or at least volunteering for their causes you support.

Need an apartment -Cleveland
I've heard good things about Huron Square and the Osborn Building, both adjacent to East 9th Street (on Huron Road). These are both in the "Gateway" neighborhood (near Jacobs Field/Quicken Loans Arena): http://www.forrent.com/apartment-community-profile/1030655.php I've also heard good things about the apartments along East 4th Street, which is a little busier of an area. It's still pretty close to anywhere along East 9th Street: http://www.east4thstreet.com/properties.php

"The parking structure across the way may even be older" I'd guess that's not the case. My house (built 1900) has a hay loft in the garage and it was obviously built to house carriages, not Model T's.

East Liverpool, Ohio
It's like any other place, minding your own business in broad daylight it's not likely that anything bad would happen. However, get involved with criminal activity, chances are... :-|

East Liverpool, Ohio
"^^why were Youngstown thugs rioting in Zanesville. How far apart are the cities? East Liverpool (aka "ELO") is about 30ish miles south of Youngstown - the former University Club (the bldg. being demo'd) was part of the drug trade route between Youngstown and Pittsburgh. They set up shop there because 1. they knew that ELO police didn't have the manpower to handle organized crime of that level; 2. just off Rt. 7/11 gave them easy highway access; 3. With ELO being in economic decline, it would be easy to recruit people desperate to make a buck. For example: http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/ohn/news/14April2006_2.html So the University Club became a popular (infamous) place, and it reached a fever pitch when about 200+ people began rioting. I forget how many cops from outside the area had to be brought in, but it was absurd.

" don't see how such a building should be allowed to be torn down. If built in 1830, I believe it would be the oldest in the WHD. I had thought the little Hilliard office building on W. 9th (1840s, I believe) held the oldest title... apparently not." Sorry, an old POS might be significant only because it's old, but it's still a POS. I'd be happy to take the first swing with a sledgehammer:

Wow, glad to see this is getting torn down - it was the site of a riot (200+ people, mostly gang thugs from Youngstown): East Liverpool, never fails to impress? If you say so!

I'm a skyline geek, not a dork. However, 200 Public Square should be taller than Rhodes ;-)

Freethink's won't work. Try printing it in one color on a shirt. Great and cool idea, but not executable.

^He's referencing the height that was proposed for the Ameritrust Center which was actually 1,198 feet.

No, District Park is on West 9th between the Bingham and National Terminal. The residential north of Lakeside would be new construction.

Can I just say how d@mn happy I am that photos I took a year ago of some god-awful parking lots are now being used in the process of their development? :-) "There are also a couple of other interesting tidbits in this image. Can you spot what they are?" A structure on the District Park site; the 55 Public Square parking garage (SE corner of St. Clair and 3rd) is gone; a structure at the "hole" just west of the Renaissance... how's that for starters?
