One thing Jackson has done well - and it ties in with his low profile is that he's 1. kept up the housecleaning that Campbell accomplished, and 2. gotten out of the way when he's needed to. I'd say that even with things like the residency law, the morale of city workers may not be perfect but it's a far cry better than it was under Mike White. It wouldn't hurt him to have a higher profile, particularly with anti-crime initiatives. However, I think people tend to forget that the last time we had a mayor with a high profile, we were left with books that were a mess; finances that were in the sh!tter; but oh gee golly - we got a big new stadium built for the Browns! I would rather have a mild-mannered Jackson any day over the draconian White adminstration which did far more to damage the city (in so many ways) even though people could say more development happened on White's watch.
  2. Actually, the H&M at Cracker Park has a decent men's section - for the longest time they were only on 1/4th of the first floor, but they expanded to one half of the second floor as well. *jamiec beat me to it.
  3. For the suits, I'll defer to the others since that's not my forté (perks of being in one of those "artsy" fields). It all depends on what your priorities are - is money no object, or are you just looking for clothes that "do the job"? Are you label-concious? Do you find it difficult to find clothes that fit off the rack? Do you want to project an image that says "professional" or "professional and cool/trendy"? Be careful - you've just posted a thread inviting people to dress you, and if there's one thing "my people" love to do, it's play dressup! :-D
  4. "i really hope a 500 footer can get built here......its pretty weak that metro of 3 million only has 4 buildings over 500 feet." Glacial sediment. Please - learn about what happens to an area when glaciers carve out a Great Lake and deposit the sediment in said area. "on a side note, does anyone here have an emporis account? they list 7 proposed high-rises and 2 on hold. what all would those be?" They would likely be phases of Stonebridge. For the record, emporis.com (aka skyscrapers.com) is one of the worst sites for finding info about high-rises in Cleveland. They treat their contributors like complete sh!t (they owe some of them money for photos they've sold, for starters). I repeat - if you want inaccurate information (and inferior photos), keep using emporis.com. "here is this non-chalant attitude by people that "oh there will eventually be something good to come along". Just as bad are the people who really don't have the first understanding of regional economics, and who have selective memories about what has and hasn't happened in this city.
  5. No, you're just lucky that cases of Great Lakes are back on sale
  6. "Finally, under my 5th amendment rights, I should be able to come to this forum all that I want and complain and offer no solutions." This isn't directed specifically at you but I suppose it applies - this forum is not, and has never been a democracy. Your participation here should be considered a privilege, and not a right. No one would ever ban you for simply venting, but if that's all you're going to do - prepare to get an earful. That said, you are aware that Cleveland and Pittsburgh are located in two separate states, correct? Are you aware of the constraints on funding that's allocated by the feds and the state? You sound like the people who complain that the schools should just divert funds from the construction/rebuilding levy and hire additional staff - but have no real knowledge of how the system works. Have you ever tried to obtain additional state funding for anything, much less hiring additional staff for the safety forces of a major city? "Poor handing of funds- 3 millions dollars is being given to a strip club on the city's east side to relocate for a homeless shelter, when there are tons of vacant buildings for pennies that could be used for this same thing." You've explained just how much knowledge and understanding you have with that comment.
  7. Keep in mind there's a Circulator that goes through and drops people off in easy walking distance to Dave's (I believe they even have an arrangement where you show your receipt and the ride is free), the West Side Market, and soon (though I won't set foot in there), Wal-Mart at Steelyard Commons. There's also a seasonal farmers market near Luckys Cafe on Starkweather, and several convenient stores (of varying quality/selection). I suppose a full-service grocery might be good but another question is - where would you put it?
  8. Name-calling? I simply asked if you were affiliated with one of the power companies.
  9. "what is each one of US doing to better the image of our city? When people complain about various issues, how do we respond?" Are you being rhetorical, or do you really want a list?

"I agree with some things he says" Ahem. She.
  11. I've found that most people who "advocate" against wind/solar power tend to have a financial interest in what the wind/solar power would be replacing*. A former colleague who was interested in Cleveland's sustainability director position was told "well, we can't be too efficient because that would take away revenue from Cleveland Public Power." I sh!t you not. *So Brewmaster - is that the case?
  12. It's that kind of petty-@ss bullsh!t of who has what jurisdiction over what measly part of their respective fifedom that chaps my @ss!!!
  13. Yes. People would know that if they'd bother to do a search. /pet peeve rant
  14. Well as much as I wish it wasn't the case (sorry, I can be a noise nazi at times), kids can't be rounded up for simply "hanging out". And yes, yes indeed - kids can hang out in Pittsburgh and get away with it
  15. Same info as above, but from the Northside Lofts site: http://www.northsidelofts.com/story_detail.php?home_storiesid=17
  16. Ah, so that's where Stone Mad is going - great find Oompa, and thanks for the confirmation, DanB! http://wtle-cleveland.blogspot.com/2007/06/stone-mad-sets-summer-opening.html
  17. The old Snickers was a two-story brick building, so that's not it - but you're right, it's a cool building!
  18. MayDay replied to a post in a topic in Completed Projects
I like the concept of adding a glass portion (even if it clashes with the original brick structure), but like w28th, I don't know if I care for how it looks (at least in the rendering). It seems sort of "jazzed-up parking garage stairwell" :| "Why does anyone select City Architecture for anything?" Years of experience, an extensive portfolio with a few well-done (though maybe not envelope-pushing) projects, and I'm going to guess a demeanor that's a little less caustic than some other architects in this town.
  19. "None of us we're supposed to see that! It was accidentally left out in public view." Haha!!! Awesome! :banger:
  20. "kids that made a very very bad decision to jump in a car with 2 other kids" 1. None of them were old enough to have a license. 2. The car was stolen. There's very very bad decisions, and then there is plain stupidity. "What are we using to determine "good" "Police pulled over the stolen 1997 Plymouth Breeze at East 30th Street and Carnegie Avenue. The driver stopped, the four car doors opened. "They could have gotten out. They could have rolled out of the car," Naso said."
  21. "Ed "Buddy" King, who coached all four boys, said it's unfair to label them as thugs. "These kids don't deserve that," King said." Let's see... they steal a car, flee from the police, mow down an innocent pedestrian... but labeling them thugs is "unfair". Way to honestly deal with problems in the community, "Buddy". Your former proteges stole a car and killed someone, yet you have the gall to suggest that "they're good kids".
  22. It sucks for the moment, but given the momentum of everything else in the area - I doubt the building (or the group) will be down-and-out for too long :-)
  23. And these comments have WHAT do to with the topic? :whip:
  24. MayDay replied to a post in a topic in Completed Projects
Sounds great shs96 - thanks for the update! :-)
  25. I agree with most of your post... and I understand you're referring to a specific issue/context, but I truly hope you don't believe this applies to society at large: "I don't think "classist" exists, at least not in the context given. I don't think people look down on each other based on their income."
