  1. I’m not much of a gambler but I’m just hoping we get cranes up on one or both sites before I hit the 5.0. in a month 👍
  2. Getting back to the HQ tower construction, looks like some kind of concrete pour is happening (white equipment visible to upper left of the Metzenbaum courthouse).
  3. Lava Lounge in Tremont has reopened; limited food menu for now, good drink list and same chill vibe (and pet friendly patio)
  4. Is that spanakopita or baklava I’m seeing at bottom center? To be clear, there’s NO wrong answer here 😀

^Absolutely agree with the recommendation to go to a locally owned store - I’ve been going to Dodd Camera at Carnegie and East 30th for about two decades. Before you go, take the time to put together some basics - budget, portability, types of photography you want to explore, etc. Probably wouldn’t hurt to call ahead and see if you can schedule time to have someone do a walk-through/demo of several models. I don’t have a specific person to suggest because they’ve all been great, in my experience. Budget-wise - there’s really no great answer other than spending what you can comfortably afford* to get the gear you need to take the pics you want. *Recommend a discussion with your spouse on this - happy spouse = happy house 😆 When I mention portability, I’m not just referring to the camera body and lens, but also the gear (specialty lenses, accessories like external flash, tripod, etc.). That naturally leads to what you’ll use to tote everything around in (backpack, messenger bag-style, etc.). There’s also the travel aspect - standard TSA screening requires any electronic devices larger than a phone be placed in a tray, outside the bag. All of this is good to discuss with your spouse/significant other - it’s one thing to be the “always taking photos guy” with just a phone; it’s another thing when they realize they can no longer stash souvenirs in your ‘personal item’ bag, or that you’re gonna need a minute or two more at the airport. I’ve been shooting with Canon for quite a while - I just find their interface more right-brain friendly. I can’t speak to Nikon, Sony or others but they all can be used to get amazing shots. I’ve been shooting with this setup - entry level mirrorless full-frame and kit lens (kit=standard lens sold bundled with the camera body): https://doddcamera.com/can2008.html I find with the mirrorless I take 2-3 shots to get one good, crisp pic; previously it was more like 5-10. The full frame is great for skyline shots for obvious reasons. As this was a pandemic splurge I haven’t had as many chances to get out but things are looking more promising this year 🤞🏼 Maybe a forum photography meetup might be in the works?
  6. Yeah, Winking Lizard isn't haute cuisine but any time I had to pick a downtown spot to accommodate visitors (think in-laws, toting children, etc.) AND have a good beer selection (helLO, in-laws!) - the Gateway spot was my go-to.
  7. Took a road trip this weekend to celebrate a BFF's 50th birthday in Cincinnati. Thanks to Ultimate Air Shuttle's halting operations (restarting in April), instead of a 40-minute flight to Cincinnati we had a several hour drive and a layover in Columbus. All in all it wasn't a bad trip but I was painfully reminded that unlike the Cleveland-Columbus leg - I-71 between Columbus and Cincinnati has a painfully long stretch that's only two lanes wide. That said, here are the photos (Cleveland shots are from St. Patrick's Day, cross-posted in the random photos thread): One day it'd be great to see that gap between LeVeque and William Green filled in. The new Hilton expansion is rather handsome. It was cool to see the arches lit in support of Ukraine. View from Lincoln Social - no tripod so excuse the quality. The bulk of the tower is alright but that tiara 😏 Imho, it's not a trip to Cincinnati without a stop at The Orchids at Palm Court. This block could use some TLC but easy to see the potential. Not sure why but when I upload photos here, they're rarely in the order I'm hoping for. Ah well - photos of OTR and the morning after (sun was out, temps were a little brisk) Tafts, brewery in a former church. OTR - would you Cincy forumers mind if I snagged some of these to fill in spots in Cleveland? 😁 Lincoln in Lytle Park. Tafts - out of order but you get the idea. Phelps - Residence Inn - home away from home. Rooftop bar wasn't open unfortunately. Christ Church Cathedral and First Financial Center (formerly Chemed Center) Did I hear someone say Western & Southern is planning something for this site? Another block needing TLC - if Cincinnati doesn't need them, we'll take them! 😁 Scripps - not my favorite of the post moderns. Covington and the Roebling Bridge. Not going to lie - I love the Poke Nachos at Yard House. Cincinnati's City Club apartments. Another "if Cincinnati doesn't want it..." 😉 Ahh, after the soul-sucking drive through whatever those counties were, this was a sight for sore eyes. Next trip to Cincinnati, hoping to see this from several thousand feet up 😁

Well, the weather is finally becoming more hospitable so highly recommend getting outside if you can.
  11. Waterford Bluffs (West 20th @ Lorain)
  12. Cluster homes on Lake Avenue (site of the former Marathon gas station)
  13. Do you happen to know which retail space? I was a regular at the former Camera City space (first unit immediately west of the entry stairs) from about 1997 until they closed.

I was in my early 30s in 2005 - I was too old for that sh!t back then, and you can best believe I’m waaay too old for it now that I’m turning 50 this year.

Pfft, Subaru? Hardly as legendary as @ColDayMan’s gold Saturn 😆
  17. I’ll remind forumers that one of the best things we enjoy on this forum is the engagement and participation of quite a few people who are actively involved in construction, development, real estate, etc. I’m talking well beyond entry level or interns. Not that we don’t appreciate those of us in the armchairs and we welcome healthy and respectful discourse. But when those who “know the things” tell us what they know … ?

Photos from the book "Cleveland/Shaping the Vision" - no scanner so did the best with my DSLR: Details on the unbuilt Convention Plaza, referenced upthread: Aerial view near Cleveland Clinic Model for Ameritrust Center - interestingly the 'roof' of the hotel in this version was barrel vaulted, revised to be flat. Galleria Rendering for US Bank (Renaissance at Playhouse Square) - I wish the turrets lit up like that at night. Aerial of Ferry Cap and Screw, Scranton Road. Model of downtown Cleveland. Skyline from West Bank of the Flats View from Erieview Tower: Flats East Bank View from Nautica Construction of Terminal Tower complex and RTA bridge.
  19. From today, still moving dirt around.
  20. They’ve been given two months off for doing just that; next time it’s a permanent ban.
  21. That’s the owner of the art gallery at Professor and Jefferson http://www.pauldudagallery.com/
  22. @GeowizicalThank you - a thousand times, thank you for contributing; it really is a treat and a unique addition to the forum. 👍
  23. The official height of the Terminal Tower is 708’ - the flagpole is not included in that.

Oh, so many thoughts but this sums it up pretty well.
