"Tim Hagan's lame response was, "if we responded to questions we'd be here all day." And that smug arrogance will be his (and if he doesn't shape up, the proposed sales tax) undoing.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
This was interesting  From cleveland.com Councilman Polensek's letter threatens drug suspect, mother says Thursday, July 19, 2007 Susan Vinella Plain Dealer Reporter The mother of a drug-trafficking suspect accuses City Councilman Mike Polensek of threatening her son in a letter that refers to the 18-year-old as a "crack dealing piece of trash" and closes with "go to jail or the cemetery soon." Polensek sent the letter earlier this month after Arsenio T. Winston was arrested and charged with selling drugs near a convenience store in Polensek's East Side neighborhood. Relocating to Cleveland near Brecksville
Welcome to Cleveland - it looks like you'll want to check the 77/Brecksville bus line http://www.gcrta.org/pdf/77.pdf. If I'm reading the map and schedule correctly, the 77 looks like it goes right down Brecksville Road. Keep in mind the suburbs tend to have less frequent service (if you work 9 to 5, it might not be a problem), but it does look like you can pick up the 77 at several different locations in downtown. If it ends up that the 77 works for you, you'll want to consider living near Tower City Center, or near the Prospect/East 14th area since that seems to be the route the 77 will take.

At what point did I suggest Gateway shouldn't have been built? :whip: :whip: :whip: "I'm not saying it hasn't had spinoff, or that it hasn't had some great benefits to the city" "I'm not saying it hasn't had spinoff, or that it hasn't had some great benefits to the city" "I'm not saying it hasn't had spinoff, or that it hasn't had some great benefits to the city" All I'm saying is, taxpayers got (and are still getting) screwed with the f#ckups behind Gateway, many of them arranged by Tim Hagan. Now, he's behind a Medical Mart which would benefit his Kennedy family connections, and again projecting a deluge of jobs, spinoff, etc. If taxpayers are leery of the Medical Mart proposal, they aren't being whiny or cheap (okay, maybe some are), they're probably still seething at the mismanagement from earlier projects they largely funded. Average citizens may be proud of the projects from the 90s, but they certainly don't benefit as much as the ultra-wealthy have (at average citizen's expense).- Grasscat is retiring

The problem isn't that it's chump change (which it is), it's that the residents of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County feel they have have been fleeced and taxed ad nauseum. Jacobs Field, Q Arena, the Rock Hall, Browns Stadium have all been touted as "for the greater good", but their projected ROI hasn't been met. We're talking about billions in taxpayer dollars that went to projects which were mismanaged, etc. One big problem is that the same person (Tim Hagan) promised back in the early 90s that Gateway would be a huge moneymaker for the city. I'm not saying it hasn't had spinoff, or that it hasn't had some great benefits to the city - but the tens of thousands of jobs, and the hundreds of thousands in revenue never materialized. In some cases, the city's lost a ton of "chump change" because of how these projects were handled. The Cavs have never paid a dime in rent to Gateway (the non-profit running the arena) because of sweetheart deals. So here's Tim Hagan again pitching a mega-project that will be what? And how will the project be built? Ah yes, there has to be millions footed by taxpayers. He doesn't have a good track record, and honestly if people put him under scrutiny, I don't blame them a bit. I can sneeze at $.25 for every $100, but I want that money managed well - and I don't see a good history here. I'm not the biggest fan of Roldo Bartimole, but he does a good job sizing up why people in Cuyahoga County have every reason to be leery of yet more tax dollars going to a project that promises the kind of spinoff the Med Mart does: Scroll to the bottom, where he has one of his earlier columns about Gund Arena (now the Q), and look at how much corporate welfare was handed out by Tim Hagan (and others): http://lakewoodbuzz.com/RoldoBartimole/RB-101806-ClevelandPlatinumWorldatQ-LakewoodOhio-RoldoBartimole.html http://lakewoodbuzz.com/RoldoBartimole/RB%2002-19-06%20Gateway%20Garages%20Cuyahoga%20Cleveland%20Lakewood%20Ohio%20Roldo%20Bartimole.html- The Changing Face of Cleveland: Getting a Lift in Arts Districts

"No wonder you're sympathetic towards my windex victims!" No, I'm not really affected by that kind of stuff (it's strictly pollen and weather changes that set off my sinuses). I'm not sympathetic to neurotic spazzes like that, but you really should spray on the towel first and then wipe the table. "Easton isnt that far from downtown actually." 8 miles as the crow flies - not much less than Cleveland's Beachwood (9 miles from downtown, an outer-ring 'burb). That's a substantial distance if you ask me. :|- huge dust storm engulfs phoenix -- video+pics

Most of the Soviet-era architecture of the time is of that stylized neo-classicism, and in fact the Terminal Tower bears a strong resemblance to NYC's Municipal Building. It's highly unlikely there was any actual "copying", though there's certainly a similarity there.
