Duck Island??? what the???? (cleveland hood)
Approximate borders of Tremont, Duck Island, and Irishtown Bend - note that Duck Island falls under the Tremont neighborhood service area: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&ll=41.487492,-81.698799&spn=0.047707,0.092268&z=14&om=1&msid=111501388969053870983.000001136e9591e0f86d5

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
"Of course I'd like to do this properly so I may need to put more thought and effort in this process." Well don't rush anything - but doing it properly will require you to be on one knee wherever you happen to be. Trust me - if you don't you'll be cursed!

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
"OK so I'm thinking of doing something life altering this coming Friday. Part of this plan involves a nice romantic dinner" OMG!?!?! If we're talking about what I *think* we're talking about - Fat Cats is nice but definitely go for Vivo (and call ahead and ask for an appropriate table). OMG!!! Oh - and if indeed we're talking about what I *think* we're talking about - if you don't get down on one knee, I will hunt you down and feed you to a yak! I know, most people would think it's a given but I shudder to think...

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I have to admit, I read that post and channeled Scooby-Doo when he says "arf?!?" ???

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
No, it really is - that's not an inaccurate assessment. Now, in a few years, that might not be the case.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Welcome to the forum - and you've asked the million-dollar question. Your guess is as good as ours, unfortunately. I imagine they'd try to find some way to re-use the space but I'm not sure what would work there. They've used the space for film staging in the past.

Buckeye Building (and relocating to Cleveland)
"... the soon to be open WalMart in Steel yard commons could be options," No. Just. no. There will be plenty of people supporting that place, let's steer the revenue where it's needed.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
"They make for a good summer brew, though I think they are too "bite-y" because of the acidity of the hopps to be "refreshing". MTS - IPAs are known for having a crisp (sometimes bitter and/or tart) taste* because of the hops. Although the hops were originally used as a preservative for shipping (as X said), the hops gave the beers a distinct flavor. Along the way, some of the sailors dabbled in their cargo, thus the taste for hoppy beers developed. Most of the beers that were brewed with more hops were ales, and being shipped to British colonies (i.e. India) - thus the name, India Pale Ale. As with any beer, there are distinctions between British style IPAs, American style IPAs, etc. *It's not unlike the crispness of some Pinot Grigios or even certain vodkas. Or for non-drinkers - it's along the lines of a very tart (almost sour) lemonade without the lemon obviously.

Cleveland - Sunday, June 24th!
Sorry - it's just that people have been posting some inane and absurd ideas (remember, they had planned to demolish the Playhouse Square theatres to make parking "more welcoming") lately. I don't know if it's the humidity and dewpoint dropping IQ points or what, and I fully admit I've been one of the main pouncers but There are certain truths that people need to comprehend and one of them is that Cleveland doesn't need more parking/auto-centric design. When I hear people suggest things like "more parking", I feel that 1. they need to learn and 2. we need to teach them. If people want ample welcoming parking - it's called Wal-Mart. If they want a vibrant neighborhood, the tradeoff is that parking isn't easy to find (see Little Italy, or portions of Ohio City and Tremont). To get back on topic, on a Sunday afternoon (when JeffreyT took the pics) it's not likely that you'll see heavy pedestrian traffic on certain downtown streets like East 9th (except for the lakefront - note the Goodtime III crowd), or the areas just to the east of the CBD (until Avenue District is built out). Last month some friends and I grabbed lunch on a Sunday at Waterstreet Grille on West 9th and the sidewalks had plenty of people.

Cleveland - Sunday, June 24th!
Never mind the fact that parking meters don't need to be fed after 6pm or on weekends (correct me if I'm wrong). Oh and note - it's the CITY not making parking welcoming, not the parking lot owners. I mean, can't the city just force parking lot owners not to charge on weekends?

"Maybe if parking was more welcoming..." Yeah... more welcoming parking... lord knows that more welcoming parking will get people downtown on the weekends!!! ???

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Although Burning River is my all-time favorite, Bells Two-Hearted IPA is a very close runner-up :drunk: And I declare this all to be on topic (it's beer, it's Great Lakes Brewing, it's Ohio City, it's allll good!)

Cleveland and Grafitti
:-) That's great to hear that you got a response and it was removed, and kudos for following the proper channels. Sorry if I was a little harsh but like I said, it doesn't happen all the time but sometimes the city actually does something right ;-) As for the Detroit-Superior graffiti - there was something similar scrawled on a utility box at the Abbey Avenue/West 14th/Innerbelt underpass. I imagine it might be the same person, but it was removed within a day so who knows.

Fairview Park: Westgate Mall Development
I'm just reposting this so people can read it - and remember it. I'm the first to hope that developers embrace sensible planning, but... A city can't force a land-use concept on a developer who isn't interested in it and already owns the land. How many barriers are you trying to put in the way of the property owner creating economic development?

Planning Weekend Trip to Cleveland.
I've found the phrase "put a sock in it" to be quite effective :-D Seriously though, maybe he can just drop the kids off with you so he doesn't ruin the day.

Planning Weekend Trip to Cleveland.
I suppose this is as good as any place - I've been working on a comprehensive map of downtown Cleveland via Google Maps. I'm hoping to collect info and combine it with an easy to navigate map. The green shapes are hotels and the flags delineate restaurants/shops/etc. It's not even close to being complete but Florida Guy, you might find this map handy: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=111501388969053870983.0000011363facc126202d&ll=41.49863,-81.687663&spn=0.011925,0.023067&t=h&z=16&om=1

Planning Weekend Trip to Cleveland.
The Lizard is about a 5-minute walk (at most) from the Hyatt: exit the Hyatt on the Euclid Avenue side, cross Euclid to East 4th Street; take East 4th south to Prospect; make a left to go east on Prospect. The Lizard is before East 9th Street, with entrances on Huron and Prospect.

Planning Weekend Trip to Cleveland.
Good suggestion, jmc8651 - can't believe I forgot the Lizard and kids love the iguana. Florida Guy, if you're going to Tower City and the Rapid is slow/not running, you should be able to grab a cab from the Renaissance Hotel - they're usually lined up near the entrance. Again - check with musky and others who are more familiar with that.

Cleveland and Grafitti
Always start with your councilman - if push reeeeally comes to shove, there's always the I-team ;-) To be fair, when I emailed my councilman about broken pavement on West 14th - they replied within 30 minutes and the road was patched that afternoon. There are good people working for the city, just as there are some yutzes so hopefully they'll get their people into shape for you.

Cleveland and Grafitti
Complain to the councilperson and address the lack of professionalism you received. Your tax dollars and time were being wasted because people don't have pens? Now that is what I am referring to when I say "legit gripe".

Cleveland and Grafitti
bizbiz, don't get me wrong - I agree with, and empathize with your frustration - and I applaud your efforts and I hope things get taken care of. It's just that in recent months - and not just on the forum - I've heard a lot of people complain about a problem that is somehow the city's fault. When I question them a little, it becomes clear that they haven't done anything other than b!tch about it, and more importantly - haven't contacted their councilperson or the appropriate department to resolve the problem. A few of the people in question - I said, "well, have you tried contacting ______?" and across the board it was nothing but "ohhh, they won't do anything" or "twenty years ago, they wouldn't help me with _____". And people wonder why I get irked when I hear blanket statements like "the city, and whoever else just doesn't give a shit.". Please - keep us posted with your results.
