I sent in my answers - I can tell you that number 7 is not the Statler Building.
  2. "the guy from Nat'l City gets up there b/c they helped sponsor the thing and gives a 5 minute speech including the details of how great their free checking and debit cards are!" Please tell me you're kidding! I've seen that at other events and it's absolutely tacky to shill your company like that - unless it directly relates to the presentation.
  3. Just remember to those attending, notes and photos are always appreciated! :-)
  4. Yeah - the gal who was working there (who is rather stunning) admitted the site isn't the best. It's definitely a cool store though.
  5. I saw those signs yesterday but didn't check them out. I managed to check out Style Lounge, across from Constantino's - nice selection, and they have an extra 20% off on thermals and hoodies :-) http://www.styleloungedenim.com/

Um, I'm the HBIC - I'm sarcastic and evil. Basically if you're going to use profanity, make an effort to keep it to a minimum. More importantly, keep it worksafe - whether you prefer **** or #@!% or b!tch, it's up to the forumer. With over 1,200 members the Admins and Mods may not catch every single offense so when we do, we have to act on it. It's really not a matter of forumers breaking the rules, it's the example they're setting for lurkers (aka future participants). I want everyone to enjoy themselves, and yes, bust each others' chops, but I also don't want people to think "anything goes" here.
  7. "I know they (DCA) wants to address this, but unless anyone's breaking the law, what can they do?" Correct me if I'm wrong, but panhandling within so many of feet of a bus stop/ATM/you name it supposedly IS breaking the law. Again - if the Ambassadors could do as good of a job with panhandlers as they do sweeping the grounds of the Board of Education building (every single day), I might actually change my tune!

Yes, but his use of profanity after being warned got him a few days off.
  9. Thank you folks for those who attended - I'm sorry you had to endure it. It's really disappointing that the organizers couldn't control the crowd and it's disrespectful and insulting to both the speakers and those who were genuinely hoping to learn something.
  10. For those attending the "Professionals in the City - Clevelands Re-Development" event tonight, please remember to: 1. Take notes - good notes. 2. Take photos - don't worry about hosting them (I can help). 3. Feel free to invite people to your wonderful forum at UrbanOhio.com :-)

I'm usually done by the first week of February - I'm just glad to get it done and out of the way.

This thread is being reopened - it was locked because in the past (on other forums I've moderated), threads like this can get really off-track and ugly. However, Jeffrey is just looking for demographic info so I'll allow it. However, I would caution everyone that this thread will be closely watched. Thank you, and we return you to your original programming :-)

Welcome to the forum... I think you might want to consider renting first before you settle on a specific neighborhood. I would give that advice to anyone moving to a new city, not just Cleveland. Are you willing to consider a condo, or is your price range flexible? If you were to rent, what would be do-able for you? The areas you mention are on the dicey side, especially the 2800 Block of Marvin. For example - there's a drop-dead gorgeous 4-bedroom Victorian that's listing for $144,000 - that's not just because of Cleveland's affordable real estate factor - the general area around MetroHealth Hospital has seen a lot of crime in recent years.

"Sounds as though it may be a "traffic calming sculpture" designed to make drivers slowdown." Great in theory, but if that was the goal they should have made four of the "hands" and set them up to rotate like a revolving door

I think this movie title has already been used, but I seriously doubt you'd find it on the shelves of any umm... mainstream store.
  17. "So now I have to ask - how long have these options been available?" I've been using the Babylon theme since inception - much easier on the eyes, imho.
  18. What peabody said.
  19. Nope. That would have been interesting to say the least.

My problem is the "interactive" component. I love works by Agam and others that force the viewer to move in order to experience them, but in this case it's not like pedestrians can walk completely around the roundabout safely. It's also not like drivers can slow down and enjoy the sculpture either. It's a good spot for certain kinds of work - but not this, where it would be more appropriate in a calmer space.
  21. "For future reference, after 24 hours of an outage, TW automatically starts the "credit" clock" That's about 23 hours too late. When a customer is inconvenienced, you should go above and beyond to make things right, and earn their loyalty. Simply giving a credit for something they're already paying for after your company F'd up is only fulfilling your obligations. As if the folks at TWC can't afford to give a little... That said...

The sculpture is up at the West 14th roundabout - honestly, I think it leaves a lot to be desired. The concept would work in a setting like Lincoln Park where people could walk/bike around it and get the effect. Instead, it's in a place where people can't actualy appreciate it since they're zooming by at 25mph. And for sh!ts and giggles, the swath of parking as seen from the hill - the next phase is in the foreground: And the impressive "interpretive center"
  23. ^According to witness reports, the punk drove his car at the officer. From Fox 8 Cleveland's site: Police tell Fox 8 News that Ofc. John Lundy, working as a security guard at the complex, shot Angelo Miller, 17. Miller (pictured in the graphic) and some others had apparently been breaking into cars parked on the property. Lundy lives in the area and has been working security at Lexington Village for more than a decade. According to Cleveland Police Chief Michael McGrath, Lundy approached Miller and ordered him to stop. At that point, the teenager drove a vehicle at the officer, which led to at least four shots being fired and a subsequent crash into a small tree. Miller was pulled out of the vehicle and transported to MetroHealth Medical Center, but he did not survive. According to Dr. Joseph Filo of the Cuyahoga County Coroners Office, Miller's death was caused due to a gun shot wound to his back and is being ruled as a homicide. The fatal encounter took place after the officer recovered stolen property from a scene where he saw four other suspects escape. McGrath says that there has been a rash of car break-ins recently at Lexington Village. Members of the teenager's family were at the scene and talked to Fox 8 News, but were clearly stunned. "He would never get into a situation like this," the victim's brother, Dante Kirkman, said. "That's not him. He was a very honest guy. He was a good kid." "He had two babies," the victim's mother, Alicia Kirkman, said. "He didn't deserve to be killed. "I want justice because they shouldn't be killing these young people. He's only 17."" .......
  24. From newsnet5.com: "Miller's family members said they do not believe the story. "He's afraid of the police," said his brother, Dante Kirkman. "If the police come, he's going to get on his knees and lay down." Authorities said Miller has been in and out of trouble for several years. In September 2005 he was arrested for misdemeanor assault and was put on probation. He was later arrested for probation violation and failing to show up at a hearing. He was taken away from his parents twice when he was younger. Miller has two children. Both of them are 1 year old."

"Ughh not the percentage breakdowns of western european ancestry followed by Irish and German stereotypes." Gee, I bet you're a hoot to drink with  "Seriously, almost everyone in America is a mutt. There's no 50 percent this, 25 percent that. I just think it's pointless to talk about your ancestry unless its something out of the norm." So don't. :-D
