Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
In the words of a UO member that you might be familiar with, "no one said you had to read it." I'm an Admin - it's my job to read everything

Do NOT ever utter the term "SoLo" to describe that area in my presence. Just a pet peeve. :whip: Once you get toward Clark Avenue/Metro General that area transitions into "Clark/Metro".

Ohio & National Intercity Bus Discussion
"Air travel is such a pain and these destinations are so close it is almost not worth flying." I have to disagree (though I admit I'm not a fan of driving, period) - I don't mind paying extra for a 45-minute flight to Chicago (vs. a six-hour drive), and an hour-ish flight to NYC (vs. a hellish 8-hour zombie drive on the PA Turnpike). Plus, you never get this when you're driving:

""Black people own nothing," said Ali. "We're just slaves. Why don't we have hundreds of black businessmen investing in this neighborhood? We need these empty lots to disappear and businesses to pop up and they need to be African-American-owned." That he doesn't see the irony of his words...

"Sends the signal that, since the store's in the city, the company needs to take extra precautions against theft." I'm not necessarily disagreeing, but ask anyone who has ever worked in Tower City about the problems with shrinkage/theft. Personally, I'd rather they have a beefed-up security presence which discourages the criminal element.

Cleveland: Tremont: Development and News
I haven't seen them in person, but I'd be curious as to why some of you consider them "hideous". Are they unconventional? Sure. Do they "match" the style of typical Tremont homes? No. Is that always a bad thing? People have said the same things about the Tillman townhomes - that they didn't fit some perceived idea that bright colors don't belong in Cleveland.

Channel 19 (woio.com) has something in their video section about a "brazen carjacking in Ohio City". I can't check it at work, though.

"The Giant Eagle will be relocating from an existing, far more pedestrian-friendly location on Clifton Boulevard that will now be vacant." I believe that plan fell through - not that it makes the West 117th project any less atrocious.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
Welcome to the forum :-) I know that Jim S. (another forumer) and his partner have purchased a place in Battery Park and they might have some insight. I don't think you can go wrong with Kings Terrace - good location and proximity to the Detroit-Shoreway hotspots, and with the Shoreway/boulevard project I would imagine property values will go up. Renovating on the other hand, gives you more flexibility to customize and that sense of accomplishment if you're into that. As much as I like Rockport Square, my biggest concern would be (as with all of Lakewood) the property taxes. You might want to post this question in the "Restaurant News/New to Town/Relocation" section. Although it concerns Battery Park, you might get more feedback there. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?board=20.0

Folks, we can stop with the hypothetical names for a red-light district. Thanks.

Oh suuure, I can see it now: "Honey, I know you'd like to go out for dinner but you know that geekboard? Well, I'm working on geocoding the database for the shared Google Earth wiki environment!". God love him, my boyfriend is very supportive of me, but yeesh! :-P Now, if someone else has the time/ability, I say go for it!

"Let's see how many different ways you all can say JM and Tommy's sucks. You have somehow filled a whole page up." But it's okay when you go on and on about Gwathmey-Siegel and their CSU Student Center designs... gotcha.

Okay - I fully admit that I'm just as guilty as the rest of us in this thread, but ... Thank you! :-)

Why doesn't downtown Cleveland have....
Fair enough - it's just that I've heard more than one Clevelander gush and rave about Malleys as though it were by far the best chocolate on the planet. For the record, a Godiva macaroon is only $3 :-D

I just hope they add bollards or guardrails in addition to thornberry bushes - keeping people away won't be the problem, keeping cars away will. I know that there is a Tremont gardeners group that will be adding flora to the center of the traffic circle but again - who will be able to enjoy that (other than those zipping by at 35mph)?

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
What's wrong with people sharing their experiences? No one said you had to read it. Not everyone leads a life of leisure and has the luxury of chilling out because some over-patchoulied slacker has no work ethic. Dos XX on tap? That swill won't improve the situation. :-P My biggest gripe is that I've known too many good people in the service industry - I have an enormous amount of sympathy for them since I've heard the horror stories. I'm not asking for the servers to do windsprints - but I shouldn't be sitting at a table for 15 minutes to even be acknowledged; I shouldn't have to flag down a server three times (once to ask, twice to remind) to fill my glass of water. If the kitchen is running slow - a simple "sorry, the kitchen's pretty busy today" is all I need. I'm not about to apologize for holding people to a certain standard.

"but what about the Malley's crunch bars?!?!?!?" They aren't bad, but the chocolate has a waxy taste to it - if they used better chocolate, they'd be outstanding.

Why doesn't downtown Cleveland have....
I know I'll be crucified for saying it, but I really don't care for Malleys. I mean it isn't terrible, but it just doesn't compare to others like Sees, Godiva, or my beloved Vosges.

For Indian food downtown during lunch, I swear by Indies in the Colonial Marketplace (I go for the chicken entrees, but I've heard good things about the veggie). The lady behind the counter is a bit hyper but she's a hoot

I have no problem with people disagreeing and having arguments, nor do I have a problem with someone who may prefers to be known for having a snippy rep. However, when I or another Admin says enough is enough, it's probably a good idea to back off.
