    Yep, Quaker Sam - Salem's mascot. Like I said - there's a reason I fled the place!

Point guard? :wtf: What does one do with a "point guard"? Or exactly what "point" is one guarding? :wtf: pope, leave Quaker Sam out of this!

    ^Bah!
  4. That's like the directions my S.O. got to a recent wedding - "take I-480 to Miles Road. Go down Miles until East 175th." :wtf: Not "make a left/right" or "go east/west" on Miles, just go "down". Needless to say, we realized we needed to turn around by the time we saw signs for Orange. It sounds like this market is on the northeast corner of West 10th and St. Clair, which would be at the bottom of the St. Clair hill towards the Flats.

"my opinions are bound to raise a few ires, no doubt..." On a forum with myself, MyTwoSense, ColDayMan (and on and on), I think you'd be fine ;-) Contrarian viewpoints are fine, as long as there's respect.
  6. "Why do we always have to look at the negative, critize it and consider a project DOA, but never come up with the positive thought or a way to IMMEDIATELY embrace an idea." Ahem, this is Cleveland and if there's one thing we do and we do it well, it's B!TCHING!!!* *Including yours truly :-D

"I told him he just needed to give us a 2 hour overview. The tour was about four hours long" Yep, that sounds about right!

^Yep! :whip: "Those Pugs are stubborn little brats!" Why do you think I get along with them so well? ;)

How I spent most of this wild and craaaazy weekend:
  12. Careful, or I'll show you a new meaning for the term "stocking stuffer"!
  13. It doesn't help that: 1. It's located very close to a high-crime area (Lorain and the West 70s/Colgate is pretty atrocious). 2. It's not located very close to major transit routes (that I know of). 3. It's not really located close to any amenities (shopping, etc.)
  14. A few new photos have been added. Enjoy :)

Jennifer, welcome to the forum! That's great to hear that the CVB is working with you - as others have said, you have a great concept and I imagine there would be a lot of interest for your tours. I had a few people ask me about your tours when I was at the Breuer Tower forum at Levin College and I referred them to your site. Keep up the great work! :)
  16. ^I'm not sure at what point they downsized it - my guess would be budget constraints but that wasn't clarified. Photos from the forum: Kathy Hexter of Levin College Forum makes the introduction (and gave a shout-out to clevelandskyscrapers.com!) :) Cuyahoga County Commissioner Peter Lawson-Jones: Steve Rugare of Kent State's Urban Design Center gave a great presentation of Breuer's career: Breuer's first foray into design: One of Breuer's collaborations with Walter Gropius: Breuer's iconic mass-produced tubular steel chair design: One of Breuer's best known residential projects which was widely imitated: An utterly strange design for a church in Minnesota: Breuer's best-known building and arguably his most successful, the Whitney Museum in NYC: I'm glad to see my site listed, but I took a photo of the rendering when they had an exhibit at the Rotunda building. I had a few people ask if I could send them the original :? A not-terribly flattering commentary about the tower: The entrance to the tower: The panel responds to the Q&A: Peter Van Dijk, one of the elder statemen of Cleveland architecture gave a lengthy talk about not only the Breuer Tower, but the CSU Student Center designed by Don Hisaka. He referred to the latter as a "beautiful building" - I think he was viewing it as the comrade of a fellow architect, rather than an objective observer.

Foreign Office Architects site http://www.f-o-a.net/ I'm not a fan of their proposals for the WTC, but I love a lot of their smaller-scale works.
  18. Basically that as an elected official, he knows that the project has be of high quality, yet still come in under budget. Things he said that I didn't know: 1. Originally set to be a 500K sq. ft. project, it's now set to be 350K. 2. They're going for LEED certification - no matter what. The latter leads me to believe that the tower stands a chance - it's almost always more LEED-friendly with rehab.
  19. I'm not sure what kind of food Celene's has as far as lunch fare so I can't vouch for that. I know you're on the cleveland.com Food forum, and she's posted there every now and then. I used to work with her and she always made cakes on the side and baked goods. They are To. Die. For. Last year, I bought my production department a dessert/cookie tray for the holidays - I was told that some of the ladies wanted to offer marriage proposals - and they KNOW they'd be barking up the wrong tree! Although their site isn't up, they have contact info at http://www.celenescuisine.com/ so maybe just shoot them an email and see what they have.
  20. My initial thoughts on the forum: Most people were in favor of saving the Breuer tower in some form. Even those who didn't care for the tower thought it would be wasteful to demolish it. Peter Lawson Jones seemed to have the most even-handed approach for a politician I've ever seen. I'll be posting photos and I believe the Levin College puts the forum on their site in podcast/downloadable format.
  21. "I figured at least some intern could have shot off that email I wrote over two weeks ago." Oh come on - one of Cleveland's vaunted organizations NOT responding to email? Surely you jest! ;)
  22. Gooo Cleveland Public Theater!!! (Desperately trying to steer the thread back on topic) :)
  23. I loved Traxx! Granted it was 1995, but it was a good time!
  24. Another great set of photos - I've been to Asiatown, but your photos have helped me pick new places to try, especially now that I know what I'm trying to find! I know the owner of Celene's - she's a real sweetheart and let me tell ya, she makes a d@mn fine red velvet cake!

As I've said before, if Dennis would put HALF the effort into recruiting businesses as he does b!tching about them when they go under, he might actually accomplish something! You rarely hear about him getting press for helping a new business to open, but by god he'll be there to have a "summit" if one goes under!
