  1. mrnyc, I took two of your pics into Photoshop:
  2. Yes, I agree that being dense is one thing Cincinnati does well ;-) In all honesty, Cincy's CBD is more tightly packed if for no other reason than its topography.
  3. "despite being a child of the 80's and sadly an underage imbiber of alcohol, managed to skip the cheap stuff " I *knew* I liked you! ;-)
  4. Alright, I've taken a few shots lately that I've been meaning to post - the first batch is from Cleveland, the second is Columbus. Enjoy :-) Fifth Third Center: Detail of the Superior Building: I miss working in this building: The Pointe Building - home to the Winking Lizard and Kent State's Urban Design program: Look! Pedestrians! The mammoth Masonic Auditorium: University Circle landmarks: A nice crowd for the WOW events on Wade Oval Wednesday: The Temple: Just down from the Temple, the Chinese Cultural Gardens: Okay, now to Columbus: You know you have a great boyfriend when he stops at the light so you can snap a pic :-) View from the hotel room: From outside the hotel: And another shot from the hotel room - enjoy this, the next set will be from Chicago :-)

KJP, thank you. I think I can safely say that you echoed not only my sentiments, but those of many, many more, to a tee. REP4, just so you understand - my original comment was made at your use of "us blacks represent...". For future reference, I might suggest "In the black community, we represent ..." - see what I mean? :-)
  6. "Simply put, its a great high school that creates some great urban ohioans!" It also creates some great boyfriends too! Gooo St. Ig!!!! :-D Where was Isis located? I was there once but I vaguely remember the place. I most certainly went to the old U4ia on Berea Road (god help ya if you couldn't park in their garage or lot!). It was always Smart Bar on Friday night, U4ia on Saturday night, and Metropolis on Sunday night. How on god's green earth I'd get up on Monday and work for 10 hours is beyond me! If you ever saw someone wearing candyapple red 8" clomper platforms with the occasional red feather boa... well, I uhhh might know that person ;-)

"You want me to use the N bomb then? Did not think so..." That's your choice. You will be banned if you do. I believe I made that quite clear.

"us blacks represent where we come from." In certain cases, I see that didn't involve any grammar instruction. Is that a hood thing? :-) "If your not from it and are not into hip-hop music, you couldn't understand..." Umm, you are aware that people in the world suffer fates much worse than being raised in the hood, aren't you? Adversity is hardly something unique to your circle.

"Cops probaly patroll O.B. because they wanna keep really the only somewhat safe neighborhood in the city safe..." Yes, lord knows that I have to dodge gunfire while taking my leisurely walks along Edgewater Drive. I really need to "throw my signs" when I go for a drink at Twist - that crowd will rumble at the drop of a hat! In fact, I almost sat on some crackhead when I got my smoothie over Liquid Planet. Check this out - one time I was waiting for my bus on Clifton and I saw three cars run the red light on Clifton during rush hour! Them sure is some rough streets over here in the E-Dub! West siiiiiiiiide represent! Hell to the no! Let's raise the roof! :-P Like any other place in any other urban area at night, you have to have your guard up no matter if you're walking on East 105th or Edgewater. "My home and many of my brothas homes (Not family)" Yes. I'm well aware of the meaning of the term. And I confidently say that I've been MUCH closer to a few men of color than you (unless of course, you have something you'd like to share).

"CPD is to scared to patroll our east side streets at night." "Our east side streets". Interesting choice of words.

Sure, let me take a walk tonight in my neighborhood (Edgewater) and see how it compares to the time I took a walk in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine. I'm sure the likelihood of being a crime victim is about the same for either  Honestly folks, statistics only tell so much - most of the more-serious crimes are drug/gang-related and limited (fortunately or unfortunately) to certain areas of the city.
  12. To quote from 'Airplane' - my momma didn't raise no dummies - I dug yo rap! It's just a collective chops-busting today! :-D "What is boone's farm?" Imagine taking either Thunderbird or MD20/20 and mixing it with a wine cooler, minus the effervescence (aka cheap booze for college kids). And please people - do NOT try to tell me "the Boones sangria tastes good!" Blech!!!

" It almost seems like you are proud of this fact, I don't quite understand that." It goes along the line of thinking that "adversity builds character". I certainly agree that it does, but you certainly don't see me relishing my working-class Appalachian roots, or the fact that I've eaten government cheese. Folks, you can feel free to discuss crime stats, hip-hop scenes or whatever - I don't care if you're black, white, latino, asian, or martian: I will not tolerate any further use of the N word. I don't care if you're quoting a song or if you're using the term in a sense of camaraderie - I don't want to see it any more. I expect better of everyone here, and using terms like that can make this site "unsafe" for those at work. This is NOT a subject for debate or discussion. I return you to your regularly scheduled topic.
  14. Well said, peabody! MyTwoSense - I do believe you have just "done been told" (or pwned as the kids say nowadays).
  15. I would guess that it wasn't attached to the police HQ - the courts building was distinctively Art Deco, and the police HQ is very much Beaux Arts/neoclassic.
  16. I could be wrong but I think the demo occurred before the idea of renovating Tower Press came along.
  17. MGD, you're right - this building was located between the Third District PD Precinct and Tower Press. I remember being at a party in one of the loft buildings on Superior and looking out the window and seeing the demo in progress :-( Oddly enough, it's listed as a city landmark which doesn't really give it any protection but it's odd that it was demolished regardless.
  18. jewel33, it's unfortunate that your first posts to the forum have to be under such terrible circumstances. Hopefully your brother's case is solved quickly and his killer brought to justice.

Glad you're okay - I have a feeling you won't be paying for any drinks at the next forum meet! :-)
  20. Great photos, mrnyc! The arcade with the swerve is actually the Euclid Arcade. The Colonial Arcade is the two-level arcade to the east. "Nick's was Dominoes....ah the good old sleazy grimy days of downtown Cleveland. sigh..." Ahem... that would be The Domino Lounge, and yes - I set foot in there once or twice. For some reason, that gave me a lot of street cred with "my people" :? :-D

"But, anyway, it's almost like the suburbanites are clashing with the small townies, rural leftovers, if that makes sense. I think that for a bagillion years, Hudson has been a pretty insular community of people that either had money or liked old houses. Sort of like the towns you see in Cape Cod. I think over the last 15-20 years, it's been turning into a place like Westlake." It isn't 'almost like' - the suburbanites ARE clashing with the small town leftovers. I lived in Hudson for a few years and it always amazed me how so many Hudsonites would name-drop where they lived because they knew most people would be thinking "oh, the lovely green and the historic district near the Academy", yet in reality every single one lived in some garden-variety cul-de-sac off 91 or 303 (Chadds Ford, Cantebury, Pinebrooke, etc.). If they ever did set foot in the places along Main Street, it was for a cheap drink at Kepners or maybe taking Grandma to breakfast at Yours Truly. Hudson, Medina, Chagrin Falls - all are historic small towns but share a similar fate from being located within commuting distance of a major metropolitan area. They have to deal with the mentality of people wanting a "genuine small town atmosphere" but also wanting suburban conveniences - I honestly don't think the two can co-exist.
  22. Wonderful set of photos - I couldn't care less about those guys on the field (well, I'm glad they won), but the guys in this pic do it for me every time :-) Any chance you have an extra-large version you could post here? ;-)

Wow! Welcome to the forum! I did notice the last shot is flipped backwards though :-)
  24. KJP, I cherish every sip of my Burning River Pale Ale, but your last sentence almost made me spit it all over my monitor! I have to agree - the ability to laugh at yourself is priceless - ask me how I know!
  25. ".if some idiot wants to put up 11 I Love Cleveland threads, who cares?" I care. As an Admin, I like to keep things "tidy" :-)
