Nice! Like the b/w effect!

You've got a Meeting with Mike White
"Barring the obvious questions about cronyism and corruption, what questions would you like to have answered?" Well then what would be the point? Who is he? Dubya? What's he afraid of? A little honesty? I'm sorry - as a resident of the city of Cleveland (aka a taxpayer, aka the boss of anyone working in City Hall be they mayor or street sweeper), who is to suggest that it wouldn't be proper to rake a public servant (current or past) over the coals for their shadyness? Are your instructors afraid that Mike White might be a little miffed when he's confronted with such questions? Jesus H. Christ, the man appointed high-level cabinet members who had their degrees from a non-accredited online "University". Jane Campbell had to spend the first year of her administration wiping up his sh!t. I'm hardly Roldo, but dear god if there's any political figure in Cleveland that deserves every bit of scrutiny he gets, it's Mike White. Perhaps a non-verbal statement might be appropriate... :finger2:

What are the must-see/must-do things for visitors to Ohio?
"Swensons burgers," Let me tell ya - when I worked in Stow, a former galpal/coworker of mine and I used to love going there for lunch during the summer. I mean come on... they have strapping young bucks wearing snug shorts bounding across hot asphalt to take your order, leaning into your car, and if you order a sandwich they ask... "would you like butter on your bun?" :-D

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
"Nance should be familiar with the laws on résumés as public records. He was part of a selection team that interviewed the police chief candidates whose résumés were kept private during former Mayor Michael White's administration. The Plain Dealer sued. In 1996, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled that the city broke the law by not making the documents public and ordered the city to reimburse the newspaper for its legal fees"

Cleveland - another day downtown!
Well if I take more pics today at lunch, I'll just add them here :-)

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
I don't think they're that bad - well, I don't care for the pink but I don't like the color pink (go figure). See, I love the Tillman townhomes - so many have said "they're so un-Cleveland" (aka modern with bright colors). While I wouldn't want every block Tillman-ized, I love that they're a breath of fresh air and color. I mean, thousands of people see them every day from the Shoreway - it's a great way to 1. act as a landmark for Detroit-Shoreway (ever try to explain to someone from Bay or River where Detroit-Shoreway is?), and 2. convey that Detroit-Shoreway offers new (albeit unconventional) housing options. If I had the means, I'd have one in a heart if only for the view:

What are the must-see/must-do things for visitors to Ohio?
See, I'd love to coordinate tours of Cleveland but I doubt I'd be able to pay my bills just doing that. Cleveland Just general overview stuff - like you said, not everyone is a geek like us: University Circle (Cleveland Museum of Art, Botanical Gardens, Case campus, Severance Hall, other museums, Lakeview Cemetery) Ohio City (West Side Market, Market Square/Great Lakes Brewing Company) Downtown (Warehouse District restaurants, Rock Hall, Pro sports) Edgewater Park

Relocation Discussion?
How about "Ohio Relocation/Travel"? Maybe as a childboard of "Restaurants/Attractions"?

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Just checking in so I have a clue about what my co-workers are saying - the Cavs got a playoff spot? :?

Job growth in the south and why is Ohio far behind?
"I come from a family of union workers...in fact, my grandfather organized the unions waaay back in the day in the western PA coal mines... And when I was seven years old, I stood with my dad and a bunch of other machinists outside their mill in the middle of January with a 55-gallon drum "fireplace" to keep us warm while they were on strike. What's your point? Not everyone lives in a bubble and it would help if you would realize that. Don't get me wrong - in plenty of cases, unions keep the "company" from abusing or underpaying workers. But in just as many cases unions themselves have become the "company" against another "company" and they ignore reality, like a city that's lost half it's population.

Job growth in the south and why is Ohio far behind?
"The South is winning the race to the bottom. Congratulations." I love that - may I borrow it?

I STILL absolutely HATE WUAB!!!
Lisa did well for awhile but then let her wild side take over in the photos. The last one with the Wild Boys was just awful. Do you have any favorites this season? I'm thinking Danielle has both the walk and good pics and so does Jade (though I hate to admit it), but there are others who could pull it together eventually.

Cleveland development impacts on first suburbs
Hmm, I've been in quite a few Reform household homes for a shiva or two, but not Orthodox. I'd be curious to see what, if any, differences there might be. If we're talking Agam or Vasarely, I'm a huge fan. Sorry to get off topic

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Their arguments for higher offers don't hold much water considering how much of a de-valuation they've asked for.

Cleveland development impacts on first suburbs
peabody, I don't think anyone will judge you - you've simply told us about your unfortunate experience with a select group of individuals. Who could blame you for not feeling comfortable or welcome? If I live somewhere, I'd like to know my neighbors - not necessarily be friends per se, but just so we're aware of each other. If someone can't be bothered to say hello in return (or at least a nod of acknowledgement), I have to wonder if they would bother to call the police in case of an emergency? Would they care enough about a neighbor who isn't "one of them" if they saw something/someone suspicious? And what's with the neon addresses on some of those houses? :wtf:

urban decay zine (cleveland)
The warehouse isn't in the best shape and more importantly, there are a lot of issues with chemicals formerly stored on the site. It wouldn't be appropriate for a residential conversion at all, and it's unlikely that it could be re-used. While I'm usually on the side of preservation, this is one time I don't mind seeing the wrecking ball.

I STILL absolutely HATE WUAB!!!
Yes, they'll have a repeat tonight at 8pm. Nicole had a few things going for her - she took some great pics, both high-fashion and commercial. She also tore up the runway during the final episode. I still liked Nik - I preferred her cool demeanor to Nicole's goofy antics.

Cleveland: Wind Turbine Construction News
If wind turbines are guaranteed to specifically kill pigeons, I say they need one in each quadrant of Public Square

urban decay zine (cleveland)
^That would be "she". And that warehouse is slated for demolition in the near future.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
You might be right - I wasn't living in Cleveland at the time. I do know it's been vacant since the 1990s but I'm not sure how far back.

Ohio's Best Architecture
"that's the wade chapel, and i'll second it" I'll third it: Exterior: Main window: Mosaic tile walls: Light fixture carved from a single block of alabaster:

Dayton: Downtown: Arcade District
It still completely boggles my mind that this building is even being considered for demolition. Trust me, even though I was about 8 years old at the time - I remember the grandeur of this amazing structure and Dayton will be a lesser city without it.
-
Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
That would be the early 1990s (late 80s possibly) when Cleveland Trust was Ameritrust and getting ready to relocate into the (now unbuilt) Ameritrust Center.

CLEVELAND - Out to lunch!
Just a few shots from the sunnier days we've had: The Cuyahoga County Courthouse: The view from Sammys at the Metropolitan (21st floor of the Huntington Building - decent lunch and not terribly pricey!): Views from the Executive Room (21st floor event dining) at the Huntington Building: The lobby of the Huntington Building: The Colonial Arcade building: I've noticed that parts of the Pinnacle look unfinished - kind of detracts from the sleekness of it, imho: Terminal Tower: From the sixth floor of the Louis Stokes wing of the main library: Same place, close-up of the Federal Reserve Bank: A few brave souls out on a windy day: Detail of the Old Federal Building (Metzenbaum Courthouse): Boxy! Shiny! I'll hopefully add more of these in coming weeks - provided Dick Goddard can deliver some better weather! :whip:
